Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

Waarom woed die heidene, en die volke bedink ydele dinge?

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying],

Die konings van die aarde stel hulleself, en die heersers neem raad saam, teen die HERE, en teen sy Gesalfde, sê,

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

Laat ons hulle bande stukkend breek, en hulle koorde van ons af werp.

4

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Hy wat in die hemele sit, sal lag: die Here sal hulle bespot.

5

Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

Dan sal Hy tot hulle spreek in sy toorn, en hulle in sy hete ontevredenheid verskrik.

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

Tog het Ek my koning op my heilige berg Sion gesalf.

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Ek sal die dekreet verklaar: die HERE het tot my gesê, Jy is my Seun; hierdie dag het Ek jou verwek.

Ask of me, and I shall give [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession.

Vra van My, en Ek sal jou die heidene tot jou erfenis gee, en die uiterste dele van die aarde tot jou besitting.

9

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Jy sal hulle stukkend slaan met ’n ysterstaf; jy sal hulle stukkend breek soos ’n pottebakker se vat.

10

Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

Wees nou wys, o julle konings: word onderrig, julle regters van die aarde.

11

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Dien die HERE met vrees, en juig met bewing.

12

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish [from] the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all they that put their trust in him.

Soen die Seun, dat Hy nie toornig word, en julle van die weg vergaan nie, wanneer sy toorn maar ’n bietjie aangesteek is. Gelukkig is almal wat op Hom vertrou.
