And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan [by] Jericho.
En die kinders van Israel het getrek, en kamp opgeslaan in die vlaktes van Moab aan hierdie kant van die Jordaan by Jérigo.
2
And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
En Balak die seun van Sippor het gesien alles wat Israel aan die Amoriete gedoen het.

And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they [were] many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
En Moab was baie bevrees vir die volk, omdat hulle baie was: en Moab was benoud vanweë die kinders van Israel.
4
And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all [that are] round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor [was] king of the Moabites at that time.
En Moab het tot die ouderlinge van Midian gesê, Nou sal hierdie vergadering alles oplet wat rondom ons is, soos die os die groenheid van die veld oplet. En Balak die seun van Sippor was koning van die Moabiete in daardie tyd.

He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which [is] by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:
Hy het dan boodskappers gestuur na Bileam die seun van Beor na Petor, wat by die rivier is in die land van die kinders van sy volk, om hom te roep, en gesê, Kyk, daar is ’n volk uitgegaan uit Egipte: kyk, hulle bedek die aangesig van die aarde, en hulle bly teenoor my:

Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they [are] too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, [that] we may smite them, and [that] I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest [is] blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
Kom nou dan, ek bid jou, vloek hierdie volk vir my; want hulle is te magtig vir my: miskien sal ek in staat wees om hulle te verslaan, en hulle uit die land uit te drywe: want ek weet dat hy wat jy seën, geseën is, en hy wat jy vloek, vervloek is.

And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
En die ouderlinge van Moab en die ouderlinge van Midian het weggegaan met die loon van waarsêery in hulle hand; en hulle het by Bileam gekom, en tot hom die woorde van Balak gespreek.

And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
En hy het tot hulle gesê, Bly hier vannag, en ek sal julle antwoord bring, soos die HERE tot my sal spreek: en die vorste van Moab het by Bileam gebly.

And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men [are] these with thee?
En God het by Bileam gekom, en gesê, Watter manne is dit by jou?
10
And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, [saying],
En Bileam het tot God gesê, Balak die seun van Sippor, koning van Moab, het na my gestuur, en gesê,
11
Behold, [there is] a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
Kyk, daar is ‚'n volk uitgegaan uit Egipte, wat die aangesig van die aarde bedek: kom nou, vloek hulle vir my; miskien sal ek in staat wees om teen hulle te veg, en hulle uit te drywe.

And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they [are] blessed.
En God het tot Bileam gesê, Jy mag nie saam met hulle gaan nie; jy mag die volk nie vloek nie: want hulle is geseënd.
13
And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
En Bileam het in die môre opgestaan, en tot die vorste van Balak gesê, Gaan na julle land: want die HERE weier om my saam met julle te laat gaan.
14
And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
En die vorste van Moab het opgestaan, en by Balak gekom, en gesê, Bileam weier om saam met ons te gaan.
15
And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
En Balak het nog meer vorste gestuur, en meer aansienlik as dié.
16
And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:
En hulle het by Bileam gekom, en tot hom gesê, So sê Balak die seun van Sippor, Laat jou tog nie verhinder word om na my te kom nie:
17
For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
Want ek sal jou baie hoog vereer, en ek sal alles doen wat jy tot my sê: kom dan nou, ek bid jou, vloek hierdie volk vir my.
18
And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
En Bileam het geantwoord en tot die dienaars van Balak gesê, Al gee Balak my sy huis vol silwer en goud, kan ek nie die bevel van die HERE my God oortree, om minder of meer te doen nie.

Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
Nou dan, ek bid julle, bly julle ook hier vannag, dat ek mag weet wat die HERE verder tot my sal spreek.
20
And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, [and] go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
En God het in die nag by Bileam gekom, en tot hom gesê, As die manne gekom het om jou te roep, staan op, gaan saam met hulle; maar net die woord wat ek tot jou spreek, dit moet jy doen.
21
And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
En Bileam het in die môre opgestaan, en sy eselin opgesaal, en saam met die vorste van Moab gegaan.
22
And God’s anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants [were] with him.
En die toorn van God is aangesteek omdat hy gegaan het: en die engel van die HERE het in die pad gestaan om hom teë te staan. Nou het hy op sy eselin gery, en sy twee dienaars was by hom.

And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
En die eselin het die engel van die HERE in die pad sien staan, en sy swaard was uitgetrek in sy hand: en die eselin het van die pad afgedraai, en in die veld gegaan: en Bileam het die eselin geslaan om haar na die pad te draai.

But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall [being] on this side, and a wall on that side.
Maar die engel van die HERE het in ‚'n pad van die wingerde gestaan, ‚'n muur aan hierdie kant, en ‚'n muur aan daardie kant.
25
And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
En toe die eselin die engel van die HERE sien, het sy haarself teen die muur gedruk, en Bileam se voet teen die muur gedruk: en hy het haar weer geslaan.

And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where [was] no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
En die engel van die HERE het verder gegaan, en in ‚'n nou plek gestaan, waar daar geen pad was om regs of links te draai nie.
27
And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
En toe die eselin die engel van die HERE sien, het sy onder Bileam neergeval: en Bileam se toorn is aangesteek, en hy het die eselin met ‚'n stok geslaan.

And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
En die HERE het die mond van die eselin geopen, en sy het tot Bileam gesê, Wat het ek jou gedoen, dat jy my nou hierdie drie maal geslaan het?
29
And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
En Bileam het tot die eselin gesê, Omdat jy my bespot het: ek wou dat daar ’n swaard in my hand was, want nou sou ek jou doodgemaak het.
30
And the ass said unto Balaam, [Am] not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since [I was] thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
En die eselin het tot Bileam gesê, Is ek nie jou eselin, waarop jy tot nou toe op gery het, tot vandag toe nie? was dit ooit my gewoonte om so aan jou te doen? En hy het gesê, Nee.

Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
Toe het die HERE die oë van Bileam geopen, en hy het die engel van die HERE in die pad sien staan, en sy swaard was uitgetrek in sy hand: en hy het sy hoof gebuig, en op sy aangesig neergeval.
32
And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because [thy] way is perverse before me:
En die engel van die HERE het tot hom gesê, Waarom het jy jou eselin hierdie drie maal geslaan? kyk, ek het uitgegaan om jou teë te staan, omdat jou pad verkeerd is voor my.
33
And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
En die eselin het my gesien, en het van my afgedraai hierdie drie maal: as sy nie van my afgedraai het nie, sou ek jou sekerlik nou al doodgemaak het, en haar laat lewe het.

And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.
En Bileam het tot die engel van die HERE gesê, Ek het gesondig; want ek het nie geweet dat jy in die pad teen my gestaan het nie: nou dan, as dit sleg is in jou oë, sal ek terugdraai.

And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
En die engel van die HERE het tot Bileam gesê, Gaan saam met die manne: maar net die woord wat ek tot jou sal spreek, dit moet jy spreek. So het Bileam dan saam met die vorste van Balak gegaan.
36
And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which [is] in the border of Arnon, which [is] in the utmost coast.
En toe Balak hoor dat Bileam kom, het hy uitgegaan om hom tegemoet te gaan tot by ‚'n stad van Moab, wat by die grens van die Arnon is, wat in die uithoek van die grens is.
37
And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
En Balak het tot Bileam gesê, Het ek jou nie ernstig gestuur om jou te roep nie? waarom het jy nie na my gekom nie? is ek nie in staat om jou te vereer nie?
38
And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
En Bileam het tot Balak gesê, Kyk, ek het na jou gekom: het ek nou enigsins mag om enigiets te sê? die woord wat God in my mond sit, dit moet ek spreek.

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.
En Bileam het saam met Balak gegaan, en hulle het by Kirjat-Husot gekom.
40
And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that [were] with him.
En Balak het beeste en skape geoffer, en na Bileam gestuur, en na die vorste wat by hom was.
41
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost [part] of the people.
En die volgende dag het Balak Bileam geneem, en hom opgebring na die hoogtes van Baäl, dat hy van daar die uiterste deel van die volk kon sien.
