Then came the children of Israel, [even] the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
Toe het die kinders van Israel, die hele vergadering, in die wildernis van Sin gekom in die eerste maand: en die volk het by Kades gebly; en Mirjam het daar gesterwe, en is daar begrawe.

And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
En daar was geen water vir die vergadering nie: en hulle het teen Moses en teen Aäron bymekaargekom.

And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
En die volk het met Moses getwis, en gespreek, en gesê, Ag, dat ons gesterwe het toe ons broers voor die HERE gesterwe het!

And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
En waarom het julle die vergadering van die HERE in hierdie wildernis gebring, dat ons en ons vee daar sou sterwe?

And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it [is] no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither [is] there any water to drink.
En waarom het julle ons uit Egipte laat optrek om ons in hierdie slegte plek te bring? dit is geen plek van saad, of van vye, of van wingerde, of van granaatappels nie; en daar is geen water om te drink nie.

And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
En Moses en Aäron het van die aangesig van die vergadering af na die deur van die tabernakel van die gemeente gegaan, en op hulle aangesigte neergeval: en die heerlikheid van die HERE het aan hulle verskyn.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
En die HERE het tot Moses gespreek, en gesê,
8
Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
Neem die staf, en versamel die vergadering, jy, en Aäron jou broer, en spreek tot die rots voor hulle oë; en dit sal sy water gee, en jy moet water vir hulle uit die rots uitbring: so moet jy die vergadering en hulle vee water gee.

And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
En Moses het die staf van voor die HERE geneem, soos Hy hom beveel het.
10
And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
En Moses en Aäron het die vergadering bymekaargemaak voor die rots, en hy het tot hulle gesê, Hoor nou, julle wat onwillig is; moet ons water vir julle uit hierdie rots uitbring?

And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts [also].
En Moses het sy hand opgehef, en die rots twee maal met sy staf geslaan: en daar het baie water uitgekom, en die vergadering het gedrink, en hulle vee.

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
En die HERE het tot Moses en Aäron gesê, Omdat julle nie in My geglo het om My te heilig voor die oë van die kinders van Israel nie, daarom sal julle hierdie vergadering nie in die land inbring wat ek aan hulle gegee het nie.

This [is] the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
Dit is die water van Meríba; omdat die kinders van Israel met die HERE getwis het, en Hy onder hulle geheilig is.
14
And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
En Moses het boodskappers van Kades af na die koning van Edom gestuur, So sê jou broer Israel, Jy ken al die moeilikheid wat ons oorgekom het:

How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
Hoe ons vaders afgegaan het na Egipte, en ons in Egipte baie dae lank gewoon het; en die Egiptenaars het ons en ons vaders sleg behandel:
16
And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we [are] in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
En toe ons tot die HERE geroep het, het Hy ons stem gehoor, en ‚'n engel gestuur, en ons uit Egipte uitgebring: en kyk, ons is in Kades, ‚'n stad in die uithoek van jou grens:

Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink [of] the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s [high] way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
Laat ons tog deur jou land trek: ons sal nie deur die velde, of deur die wingerde trek nie, en ons sal ook nie die water van die putte drink nie: ons sal langs die koning se grootpad trek, ons sal nie regs of links afdraai nie, totdat ons by jou grens verbygetrek het.

And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
En Edom het tot hom gesê, Jy mag nie deur my trek nie, anders sal ek met die swaard teen jou uitkom.
19
And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without [doing] any thing [else], go through on my feet.
En die kinders van Israel het tot hom gesê, Ons sal langs die hoofpad trek: en as ek en my vee van jou water drink, dan sal ek die prys daarvan betaal: laat my net te voet deurgaan, sonder iets anders.

And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
En hy het gesê, Jy mag nie deurgaan nie. En Edom het teen hom uitgekom met baie volk, en met ’n sterk hand.
21
Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
So het Edom dan geweier om Israel deur sy grens te laat trek: daarom het Israel van hom afgedraai.
22
And the children of Israel, [even] the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
En die kinders van Israel, die hele vergadering, het van Kades afgetrek, en by die berg Hor gekom.
23
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
En die HERE het tot Moses en Aäron by die berg Hor, by die grens van die land Edom, gespreek, en gesê,
24
Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
Aäron moet by sy volk versamel word: want hy sal nie in die land kom wat ek aan die kinders van Israel gegee het nie, omdat julle teen my bevel onwillig was by die water van Meríba.

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
Neem Aäron en Eleásar sy seun, en bring hulle op die berg Hor:
26
And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered [unto his people], and shall die there.
En trek Aäron van sy klere uit, en trek hulle aan Eleásar sy seun aan: en Aäron moet by sy volk versamel word, en daar sterwe.
27
And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
En Moses het gedoen soos die HERE beveel het: en hulle het opgeklim na die berg Hor voor die oë van die hele vergadering.
28
And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
En Moses het Aäron van sy klere uitgetrek, en hulle aan Eleásar sy seun aangetrek; en Aäron het daar gesterwe op die top van die berg: en Moses en Eleásar het van die berg afgeklim.

And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, [even] all the house of Israel.
En toe die hele vergadering sien dat Aäron dood was, het hulle Aäron dertig dae lank betreur, die hele huis van Israel.
