Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.
Stuur manne uit, dat hulle die land Kanaän mag verken, wat ek aan die kinders van Israel gee: van elke stam van hulle vaders moet julle ’n man stuur, elkeen ’n owerste onder hulle.

And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men [were] heads of the children of Israel.
En Moses het hulle uit die wildernis van Paran gestuur volgens die bevel van die HERE: al daardie manne was hoofde van die kinders van Israel.

And these [were] their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
En dit is hulle name: van die stam van Ruben, Sammúa die seun van Sakkúr.

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
Van die stam van Simeon, Safat die seun van Hori.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
Van die stam van Juda, Kaleb die seun van Jefúnne.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
Van die stam van Issaskar, Jigal die seun van Josef.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
Van die stam van Efraim, Hoséa die seun van Nun.

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
Van die stam van Benjamin, Palti die seun van Rafu.

Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

Of the tribe of Joseph, [namely], of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
Van die stam van Dan, Ammiël die seun van Gemalli.

These [are] the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
Dit is die name van die manne wat Moses gestuur het om die land te verken. En Moses het Hoséa die seun van Nun Josua genoem.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this [way] southward, and go up into the mountain:
En Moses het hulle gestuur om die land Kanaän te verken, en tot hulle gesê, Trek hier op deur die suide, en klim op in die gebergte:
18
And see the land, what it [is]; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they [be] strong or weak, few or many;
En sien hoe die land is, en die volk wat daarin woon, of hulle sterk is of swak, min of baie;
19
And what the land [is] that they dwell in, whether it [be] good or bad; and what cities [they be] that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
En hoe die land is waarin hulle woon, of dit goed is of sleg; en hoe die stede is waarin hulle woon, of in tente, of in vestings;
20
And what the land [is], whether it [be] fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time [was] the time of the firstripe grapes.
En hoe die land is, of dit vet is of maer, of daar bome in is of nie. En wees van goeie moed, en bring van die vrug van die land. Nou was die tyd die tyd van die eerstelinge van druiwe.

So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
So het hulle dan opgetrek, en die land verken van die wildernis van Sin af tot by Rehob, soos ’n mens kom by Hamat.
22
And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, [were]. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
En hulle het opgetrek deur die suide, en by Hebron gekom; waar Agiman, Sesai, en Talmai, die kinders van Enak, was. (Nou is Hebron sewe jaar voor Soan in Egipte gebou.)

And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and [they brought] of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
En hulle het by die dal Eskol gekom, en daarvandaan ’n rank met een tros druiwe afgesny, en dit tussen twee op ’n stok gedra; en van die granaatappels, en van die vye.

The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
Daardie plek is die dal Eskol genoem, vanweë die tros wat die kinders van Israel daar afgesny het.

And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
En hulle het teruggekeer van die verkenning van die land ná veertig dae.

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
En hulle het gegaan en by Moses en Aäron, en by die hele vergadering van die kinders van Israel gekom, na die wildernis van Paran, by Kades; en hulle het vir hulle en vir die hele vergadering verslag gegee, en hulle die vrug van die land gewys.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this [is] the fruit of it.
En hulle het hom vertel, en gesê, Ons het in die land gekom waarheen jy ons gestuur het, en sekerlik vloei dit van melk en heuning; en dit is die vrug daarvan.

Nevertheless the people [be] strong that dwell in the land, and the cities [are] walled, [and] very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
Maar die volk is sterk wat in die land woon, en die stede is ommuur, en baie groot: en ons het ook die kinders van Enak daar gesien.
29
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
Die Amalekiete woon in die land van die suide: en die Hetiete, en die Jebusiete, en die Amoriete woon in die gebergte: en die Kanaäniete woon by die see, en by die oewer van die Jordaan.

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
En Kaleb het die volk voor Moses stilgemaak, en gesê, Laat ons dadelik optrek, en dit in besit neem; want ons is goed in staat om dit te oorwin.

But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they [are] stronger than we.
Maar die manne wat saam met hom opgetrek het, het gesê, Ons is nie in staat om teen daardie volk op te trek nie; want hulle is sterker as ons.
32
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, [is] a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it [are] men of a great stature.
En hulle het ’n slegte gerug van die land wat hulle verken het, onder die kinders van Israel gebring, en gesê, Die land waardeur ons getrek het om dit te verken, is ’n land wat sy inwoners verteer; en al die volk wat ons daarin gesien het, is manne van groot gestalte.

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, [which come] of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
En daar het ons die reuse gesien, die seuns van Enak, wat van die reuse afkomstig is: en ons was in ons eie oë soos sprinkane, en so was ons ook in hulle oë.
