Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
En ‚'n sekere hoofman oor honderd se dienaar, wat vir hom dierbaar was, was siek, en gereed om te sterwe.

And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
En toe hy van Jesus gehoor het, het hy die ouderlinge van die Jode na Hom gestuur, en Hom gesmeek dat Hy sou kom en sy dienaar genees.

And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
En toe hulle by Jesus kom, het hulle Hom ywerig gesmeek, sê, Hy is waardig dat U dit vir hom doen:

For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
Want hy het ons nasie lief, en hy het self die sinagoge vir ons gebou.

Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
Toe het Jesus met hulle gegaan. En toe Hy nou nie ver van die huis was nie, het die hoofman oor honderd vriende na Hom gestuur, sê tot Hom, Here, bemoei U nie; want ek is nie waardig dat U onder my dak inkom nie:

Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
Daarom het ek myself ook nie waardig geag om na U te kom nie: maar sê ’n woord, en my dienaar sal genees word.

For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth [it].
Want ek is self ook ’n man onder gesag gestel, met soldate onder my, en ek sê tot een, Gaan, en hy gaan; en tot ’n ander, Kom, en hy kom; en tot my dienaar, Doen dit, en hy doen dit.

When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Toe Jesus hierdie dinge gehoor het, het Hy Hom oor hom verwonder, en Hom omgedraai, en tot die skare wat Hom gevolg het, gesê, Ek sê vir julle, Ek het nie so ’n groot geloof, nee, nie in Israel gevind nie.

And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
En dié wat gestuur is, het na die huis teruggekeer, en die dienaar gesond gevind wat siek was.

And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
En dit het gebeur die dag daarna, dat Hy in ’n stad gegaan het, genaamd Naïn; en baie van sy dissipels het saam met Hom gegaan, en baie mense.

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
Nou toe Hy naby die poort van die stad kom, kyk, daar is ‚'n dooie uitgebring, die enigste seun van sy moeder, en sy was ‚'n weduwee: en baie mense van die stad was by haar.

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
En toe die Here haar sien, is Hy met ontferming oor haar bewoë, en het tot haar gesê, Ween nie.

And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare [him] stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
En Hy het nader gekom en die baar aangeraak: en dié wat dit gedra het, het stilgestaan. En Hy het gesê, Jongman, ek sê vir jou, Staan op.

And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
En hy wat dood was, het opgesit, en begin spreek. En Hy het hom aan sy moeder gegee.

And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
En daar het vrees op almal gekom: en hulle het God verheerlik, sê, Dat ’n groot profeet onder ons opgestaan het; en, Dat God sy volk besoek het.

And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
En hierdie gerug van Hom het uitgegaan deur die hele Judea, en deur die hele omliggende streek.

And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
En die dissipels van Johannes het hom van al hierdie dinge vertel.

And John calling [unto him] two of his disciples sent [them] to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
En Johannes het twee van sy dissipels by Hom geroep, en tot Jesus gestuur, sê, Is U die Een wat sou kom? of kyk ons uit na ’n ander?

When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
Toe die manne by Hom kom, het hulle gesê, Johannes die Doper het ons na U gestuur, sê, Is U die Een wat sou kom? of kyk ons uit na ’n ander?

And in that same hour he cured many of [their] infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many [that were] blind he gave sight.
En in dieselfde uur het Hy baie genees van hulle siektes en plae, en van boos geeste; en aan baie blindes het Hy die gesig gegee.

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
Toe het Jesus geantwoord en tot hulle gesê, Gaan julle weg, en toon aan Johannes die dinge wat julle gesien en gehoor het; hoe dat die blindes sien, die verlamdes wandel, die melaatses gereinig word, die dowes hoor, die dooies opgewek word, aan die armes die evangelie verkondig word.

And blessed is [he], whosoever shall not be offended in me.
En geseënd is hy, elkeen wat nie aan My gestoot word nie.

And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
En toe die boodskappers van Johannes weggegaan het, het Hy begin om tot die skare aangaande Johannes te sê, Wat het julle uitgegaan in die wildernis om te sien? ’n Riet wat deur die wind geskud word?

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
Maar wat het julle uitgegaan om te sien? ‚'n Mens met sagte klere aangetrek? Kyk, hulle wat in heerlike klere is, en weelderig lewe, is in die konings se howe.

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
Maar wat het julle uitgegaan om te sien? ’n Profeet? Ja, sê ek vir julle, en veel meer as ’n profeet.

This is [he], of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Dit is hy van wie geskrywe is, Kyk, ek stuur my boodskapper voor u aangesig, wat u weg voor U sal berei.

For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Want ek sê vir julle, Onder dié wat van vroue gebore is, is daar nie ’n groter profeet as Johannes die Doper nie: maar hy wat die minste is in die koninkryk van God, is groter as hy.

And all the people that heard [him], and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
En al die mense wat Hom gehoor het, en die tollenaars, het God geregverdig, omdat hulle met die doop van Johannes gedoop is.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
Maar die Fariseërs en die wetgeleerdes het die raad van God teen hulleself verwerp, omdat hulle nie deur hom gedoop is nie.

And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
En die Here het gesê, Waarmee sal ek dan die mense van hierdie geslag vergelyk? en waaraan is hulle gelyk?

They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.
Hulle is soos kinders wat in die mark sit, en na mekaar roep, en sê, Ons het vir julle op die fluit gespeel, en julle het nie gedans nie; ons het vir julle geweeklaag, en julle het nie gehuil nie.

For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.
Want Johannes die Doper het gekom, wat nie brood eet of wyn drink nie; en julle sê, Hy het ’n duiwel.

The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
Die Seun van die mens het gekom, wat eet en drink; en julle sê, Kyk ’n vraat en ’n wynsuiper, ’n vriend van tollenaars en sondaars!

But wisdom is justified of all her children.
Maar die wysheid is geregverdig van al haar kinders.

And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat.
En een van die Fariseërs het Hom gevra om by hom te eet. En Hy het in die Fariseër se huis gegaan, en by die tafel gaan sit.

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that [Jesus] sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
En kyk, ’n vrou in die stad, wat ’n sondaar was, toe sy geweet het dat Jesus by die tafel sit in die Fariseër se huis, het ’n albasterfles salf gebring,

And stood at his feet behind [him] weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe [them] with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed [them] with the ointment.
En by sy voete agter gestaan, en gehuil, en begin om sy voete met trane te was, en hulle met die hare van haar hoof afgevee, en sy voete gesoen, en hulle met die salf gesalf.

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw [it], he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman [this is] that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Nou toe die Fariseër wat Hom genooi het, dit sien, het hy by homself gespreek, sê, Hierdie man, as Hy ’n profeet was, sou geweet het wie en watter soort vrou dit is wat Hom aanraak: want sy is ’n sondaar.

And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
En Jesus het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Simon, ek het iets om aan jou te sê. En hy het gesê, Meester, sê dit.

There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
Daar was ‚'n sekere skuldeiser wat twee skuldenaars gehad het: die een was vyfhonderd pennies skuldig, en die ander vyftig.
42
And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
En toe hulle niks gehad het om te betaal nie, het hy dit aan altwee vryelik vergewe. Sê My daarom, wie van hulle sal hom die meeste liefhê?

Simon answered and said, I suppose that [he], to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
Simon het geantwoord en gesê, Ek veronderstel dat hy aan wie hy die meeste vergewe het. En Hy het tot hom gesê, Jy het reg geoordeel.

And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped [them] with the hairs of her head.
En Hy het Hom na die vrou omgedraai, en tot Simon gesê, Sien jy hierdie vrou? Ek is in jou huis gekom, jy het My geen water vir my voete gegee nie: maar sy het my voete met trane gewas, en hulle met die hare van haar hoof afgevee.

Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
Jy het My geen soen gegee nie: maar hierdie vrou, van die tyd af dat ek ingekom het, het nie opgehou om my voete te soen nie.
46
My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
My hoof het jy nie met olie gesalf nie: maar hierdie vrou het my voete met salf gesalf.
47
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little.
Daarom sê ek vir jou, Haar sondes, wat baie is, is vergewe; want sy het baie liefgehad: maar aan wie min vergewe is, dieselfde het min lief.

And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
En Hy het tot haar gesê, Jou sondes is vergewe.

And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
En dié wat saam by die tafel gesit het, het begin om by hulleself te sê, Wie is hierdie wat ook sondes vergewe?
50
And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
En Hy het tot die vrou gesê, Jou geloof het jou gered; gaan in vrede.
