And, behold, [there was] a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
En kyk, daar was ’n man, met die naam van Saggéüs, wat die owerste onder die tollenaars was, en hy was ryk.

And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
En hy het gesoek om Jesus te sien wie Hy was; en kon nie vanweë die skare nie, omdat hy klein van gestalte was.

And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that [way].
En hy het vooruit gehardloop, en in ‚'n sikomoreboom geklim om Hom te sien: want Hy sou daardie pad verbygaan.

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
En toe Jesus by die plek kom, het Hy opgekyk, en hom gesien, en tot hom gesê, Saggéüs, maak gou, klim af; want vandag moet ek in jou huis bly.

And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
En hy het gou afgeklim, en Hom met blydskap ontvang.

And when they saw [it], they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
En toe hulle dit sien, het hulle almal gemurmureer, sê, Dat Hy by ’n sondaar gaan inkeer om te bly.

And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold.
En Saggéüs het gestaan, en tot die Here gesê, Kyk, Here, die helfte van my goed gee ek aan die armes; en as ek van iemand iets deur valse aanklag weggevat het, gee ek dit viervoudig terug.

And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
En Jesus het tot hom gesê, Vandag het die heil tot hierdie huis gekom, omdat hy ook ’n seun van Abraham is.

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Want die Seun van die mens is gekom om te soek en te red wat verlore was.

And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
En soos hulle hierdie dinge gehoor het, het Hy verder ’n gelykenis bygevoeg, omdat Hy naby Jérusalem was, en omdat hulle gedink het dat die koninkryk van God dadelik sou verskyn.

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
Hy het daarom gesê, ’n Sekere edele man het in ’n ver land gereis om vir homself ’n koninkryk te ontvang, en terug te keer.

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
En hy het sy tien dienaars geroep, en aan hulle tien ponde gegee, en tot hulle gesê, Dryf handel totdat ek kom.
14
But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this [man] to reign over us.
Maar sy burgers het hom gehaat, en ’n gesantskap agter hom aan gestuur, sê, Ons wil nie hê dat hierdie man oor ons moet regeer nie.

And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
En dit het gebeur, dat, toe hy teruggekeer het, nadat hy die koninkryk ontvang het, hy beveel het dat hierdie dienaars by hom geroep word, aan wie hy die geld gegee het, dat hy mag weet hoeveel elkeen deur handel gewin het.

Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
Toe het die eerste gekom, sê, Heer, u pond het tien ponde bygewin.

And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
En hy het tot hom gesê, Mooi so, goeie dienaar: omdat jy in ’n baie klein ding getrou was, het jy gesag oor tien stede.

And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
En die tweede het gekom, sê, Heer, u pond het vyf ponde gemaak.
19
And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
En hy het net so tot hom gesê, Wees jy ook oor vyf stede.
20
And another came, saying, Lord, behold, [here is] thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
En ’n ander het gekom, sê, Heer, kyk, hier is u pond, wat ek in ’n doek weggebêre het:

For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
Want ek was bevrees vir u, omdat u ‚'n streng man is: u neem op wat u nie neergesit het nie, en maai wat u nie gesaai het nie.
22
And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, [thou] wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
En hy het tot hom gesê, Uit jou eie mond sal ek jou oordeel, jy boos dienaar. Jy het geweet dat ek ’n streng man is, wat opneem wat ek nie neergesit het nie, en maai wat ek nie gesaai het nie:

Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
Waarom het jy dan nie my geld by die bank gegee nie, dat ek by my koms dit met rente kon ontvang het?
24
And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give [it] to him that hath ten pounds.
En hy het tot dié gesê wat bygestaan het, Neem die pond van hom weg, en gee dit aan hom wat tien ponde het.
25
(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
(En hulle het tot hom gesê, Heer, hy het tien ponde.)
26
For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
Want ek sê vir julle, Dat aan elkeen wat het, sal gegee word; en van hom wat nie het nie, sal geneem word selfs wat hy het.
27
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay [them] before me.
Maar daardie my vyande, wat nie wou hê dat ek oor hulle sou regeer nie, bring hier, en maak hulle voor my dood.

And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
En toe Hy hierdie dinge gesê het, het Hy vooruitgegaan, en opgegaan na Jérusalem.

And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called [the mount] of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
En dit het gebeur, toe Hy naby Betfagé en Betánië gekom het, by die berg genaamd die Olyfberg, dat Hy twee van sy dissipels uitgestuur het,

Saying, Go ye into the village over against [you]; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring [him hither].
Sê, Gaan in die dorp teenoor julle; in wat, wanneer julle binnekom, julle ’n veulen sal vind wat vasgemaak is, waarop nog nooit ’n mens gesit het nie: maak dit los, en bring dit hier.

And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose [him]? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
En as iemand julle vra, Waarom maak julle dit los? so moet julle tot hom sê, Omdat die Here dit nodig het.

And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
En dié wat gestuur is, het gegaan, en dit gevind soos Hy tot hulle gesê het.

And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
En soos hulle die veulen losmaak, het die eienaars daarvan tot hulle gesê, Waarom maak julle die veulen los?

And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
En hulle het gesê, Die Here het dit nodig.

And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
En hulle het dit by Jesus gebring: en hulle het hulle klere op die veulen gegooi, en hulle het Jesus daarop gesit.

And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
En soos Hy gegaan het, het hulle hulle klere op die pad gesprei.

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
En toe Hy nou naby kom, by die afdraande van die Olyfberg, het die hele menigte van die dissipels begin om met ‚'n groot stem God te prys vir al die kragtige dade wat hulle gesien het;

Saying, Blessed [be] the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
Sê, Geseënd is die Koning wat kom in die Naam van die Here: vrede in die hemel, en heerlikheid in die hoogste.

And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
En sommige van die Fariseërs van die skare het tot Hom gesê, Meester, bestraf u dissipels.

And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
En Hy het geantwoord en tot hulle gesê, Ek sê vir julle dat, as hierdie stil sou bly, die klippe dadelik sou uitroep.

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
En toe Hy naby gekom het, het Hy die stad aangesien, en daaroor gehuil,
42
Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things [which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Sê, As jy, selfs jy, ten minste in hierdie jou dag geweet het die dinge wat tot jou vrede dien! maar nou is hulle vir jou oë verborge.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
Want die dae sal oor jou kom, dat jou vyande ‚'n skans om jou sal opwerp, en jou omsingel, en jou van alle kante insluit,
44
And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
En jou met die grond gelyk maak, en jou kinders binne-in jou; en hulle sal in jou nie een steen op die ander laat nie; omdat jy die tyd van jou besoeking nie geken het nie.

And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
En Hy het in die tempel gegaan, en begin om dié uit te dryf wat daarin verkoop en gekoop het,
46
Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Sê tot hulle, Daar is geskrywe, My huis is die huis van gebed: maar julle het dit ’n roofnes gemaak.
47
And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,
En Hy het daagliks in die tempel geleer. Maar die owerpriesters en die skrifgeleerdes en die owerstes van die volk het gesoek om Hom te vernietig,
48
And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
En kon nie vind wat hulle kon doen nie: want die hele volk was baie aandagtig om Hom te hoor.
