In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Intussen, toe daar ’n ontelbare skare mense bymekaargekom het, insoweer dat hulle mekaar vertrap het, het Hy begin om eers tot sy dissipels te sê, Pas op vir die suurdeeg van die Fariseërs, wat geveinsdheid is.

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
Want daar is niks bedek, wat nie geopenbaar sal word nie; en niks verborge, wat nie bekend sal word nie.

Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Daarom, wat julle in die duisternis gesê het, sal in die lig gehoor word; en wat julle in die oor in die binnekamers gefluister het, sal op die dakke verkondig word.

And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
En ek sê vir julle my vriende, Wees nie bevrees vir hulle wat die liggaam doodmaak, en daarna niks meer kan doen nie.
5
But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Maar ek sal julle wys wie julle moet vrees: Vrees Hom, wat, nadat Hy gedood het, mag het om in die hel te werp; ja, ek sê vir julle, Vrees Hom.

Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Word nie vyf mossies vir twee pennies verkoop nie, en nie een van hulle is by God vergeet nie?
7
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Maar selfs die hare van julle hoof is almal getel. Vrees daarom nie: julle is van meer waarde as baie mossies.
8
Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Ook sê ek vir julle, Elkeen wat My bely voor die mense, hom sal die Seun van die mens ook bely voor die engele van God:
9
But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Maar hy wat My voor die mense verloën, sal verloën word voor die engele van God.
10
And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
En elkeen wat ‚'n woord spreek teen die Seun van die mens, dit sal hom vergewe word: maar vir hom wat laster teen die Heilige Gees, sal dit nie vergewe word nie.

And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and [unto] magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
En wanneer hulle julle bring tot die sinagoges, en tot maghebbers, en gesaghebbers, wees nie besorg hoe of wat julle sal antwoord, of wat julle sal sê nie:

For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Want die Heilige Gees sal julle in dieselfde uur leer wat julle moet sê.
13
And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
En een van die skare het tot Hom gesê, Meester, sê tot my broer dat hy die erfenis met my moet deel.
14
And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
En Hy het tot hom gesê, Mens, wie het My tot ’n regter of ’n verdeler oor julle aangestel?
15
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Pas op, en wees op julle hoede vir hebsug: want ’n mens se lewe bestaan nie in die oorvloed van die dinge wat hy besit nie.

And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
En Hy het ’n gelykenis tot hulle gespreek, sê, Die grond van ’n sekere ryk man het volop opgebring:
17
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
En hy het by homself geredeneer, sê, Wat sal ek doen, omdat ek nie plek het om my vrugte bymekaar te sit nie?
18
And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
En hy het gesê, Dit sal ek doen: ek sal my skure afbreek, en groter bou; en daar sal ek al my vrugte en my goed bymekaarsit.
19
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, [and] be merry.
En ek sal tot my siel sê, Siel, jy het baie goed wat opgelê is vir baie jare; rus, eet, drink, en wees vrolik.
20
But God said unto him, [Thou] fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
Maar God het tot hom gesê, Jy dwaas, hierdie nag sal jou siel van jou afgeëis word: dan wie s’n sal dié dinge wees wat jy voorsien het?
21
So [is] he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
So is hy wat skat vir homself bymekaarmaak, en nie ryk is tot God nie.
22
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
En Hy het tot sy dissipels gesê, Daarom sê ek vir julle, Wees nie besorg vir julle lewe, wat julle sal eet nie; en ook nie vir die liggaam, wat julle sal aantrek nie.

The life is more than meat, and the body [is more] than raiment.
Die lewe is meer as die voedsel, en die liggaam as die klere.
24
Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Oorweeg die rawe: want hulle saai nie, en hulle maai nie; wat nie skuur of skuur het nie; en God voed hulle: hoeveel te meer is julle beter as die voëls?

And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
En wie van julle kan deur besorg te wees een el by sy gestalte voeg?
26
If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
As julle dan nie in staat is om dit te doen wat die minste is nie, waarom is julle besorg oor die res?
27
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Oorweeg die lelies hoe hulle groei: hulle arbei nie, hulle spin nie; en tog sê ek vir julle, dat Salomo in al sy heerlikheid nie so aangetrek was soos een van hierdie nie.

If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more [will he clothe] you, O ye of little faith?
As God dan so die gras beklee, wat vandag in die veld is, en môre in die oond gegooi word; hoeveel te meer sal Hy julle beklee, o julle kleingelowiges?
29
And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
En soek julle nie wat julle sal eet, of wat julle sal drink nie, en wees nie van ‚'n twyfelagtige gemoed nie.
30
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
Want al hierdie dinge soek die nasies van die wêreld na: en julle Vader weet dat julle hierdie dinge nodig het.
31
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Maar soek julle eerder die koninkryk van God; en al hierdie dinge sal by julle bygevoeg word.
32
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Vrees nie, klein kuddetjie; want dit is julle Vader se welbehae om die koninkryk aan julle te gee.
33
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
Verkoop wat julle het, en gee aalmoese; voorsien julle selfe met beurse wat nie oud word nie, ‚'n skat in die hemele wat nie ophou nie, waar geen dief nader kom, en geen mot verderf nie.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Want waar julle skat is, daar sal julle hart ook wees.
35
Let your loins be girded about, and [your] lights burning;
Laat julle lendene omgord wees, en julle ligte brandende;
36
And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
En julle self soos manne wat op hulle heer wag, wanneer hy van die bruilof sal terugkeer; dat, wanneer hy kom en klop, hulle dadelik vir hom mag oopmaak.
37
Blessed [are] those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Geseënd is daardie dienaars, wat die heer, wanneer hy kom, wakende sal vind: voorwaar sê ek vir julle, dat hy homself sal omgord, en hulle sal laat sit om te eet, en sal vorentoe kom en hulle bedien.
38
And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find [them] so, blessed are those servants.
En as hy in die tweede wag kom, of in die derde wag kom, en hulle so vind, geseënd is daardie dienaars.
39
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
En dit weet julle, dat as die huiseienaar geweet het watter uur die dief sou kom, sou hy gewaak het, en nie toegelaat het dat sy huis oopgebreek word nie.
40
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
Wees julle daarom ook gereed: want die Seun van die mens kom in ‚'n uur wanneer julle dit nie dink nie.
41
Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
Toe het Petrus tot Hom gesê, Here, spreek U hierdie gelykenis tot ons, of selfs tot almal?
42
And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom [his] lord shall make ruler over his household, to give [them their] portion of meat in due season?
En die Here het gesê, Wie is dan daardie getroue en wyse rentmeester, wat sy heer sal aanstel oor sy huisgesin, om hulle hulle deel van voedsel in die regte tyd te gee?
43
Blessed [is] that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Geseënd is daardie dienaar, wat sy heer, wanneer hy kom, so vind doen.
44
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
Van ’n waarheid sê ek vir julle, dat hy hom aanstel sal oor al wat hy het.
45
But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
Maar as daardie dienaar in sy hart sê, My heer vertoef om te kom; en begin om die diensknegte en diensmaagde te slaan, en te eet en te drink, en dronk te word;
46
The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for [him], and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Die heer van daardie dienaar sal kom in ‚'n dag wanneer hy hom nie verwag nie, en op ‚'n uur wanneer hy nie bewus is nie, en sal hom in stukkies sny, en hom sy deel gee met die ongelowiges.
47
And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not [himself], neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes].
En daardie dienaar, wat sy heer se wil geken het, en homself nie berei het nie, en ook nie volgens sy wil gedoen het nie, sal met baie slae geslaan word.
48
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few [stripes]. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Maar hy wat nie geweet het nie, en dinge gedoen het wat slae verdien, sal met min slae geslaan word. Want aan elkeen aan wie baie gegee is, van hom sal baie geëis word: en aan wie die mense baie toevertrou het, van hom sal hulle des te meer vra.

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Ek is gekom om vuur op die aarde te stuur; en wat wil ek, as dit alreeds aangesteek is?
50
But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Maar ek het ‚'n doop om mee gedoop te word; en hoe is ek benoud totdat dit volbring is!
51
Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Veronderstel julle dat ek gekom het om vrede op aarde te gee? Ek sê vir julle, Nee; maar eerder verdeeldheid:
52
For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Want van nou af sal daar vyf in een huis verdeeld wees, drie teen twee, en twee teen drie.
53
The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Die vader sal verdeeld wees teen die seun, en die seun teen die vader; die moeder teen die dogter, en die dogter teen die moeder; die skoonmoeder teen haar skoondogter, en die skoondogter teen haar skoonmoeder.

And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
En Hy het ook tot die skare gesê, Wanneer julle ’n wolk sien opkom uit die weste, sê julle dadelik, Daar kom ’n bui; en so gebeur dit.
55
And when [ye see] the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
En wanneer julle die suidewind sien waai, sê julle, Daar sal hitte wees; en dit gebeur.
56
[Ye] hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
Julle geveinsdes, julle kan die aangesig van die hemel en van die aarde onderskei; maar hoe is dit dat julle hierdie tyd nie onderskei nie?
57
Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
Ja, en waarom oordeel julle nie self ook wat reg is nie?
58
When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, [as thou art] in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
Wanneer jy met jou teëstander na die owerheid gaan, gee ywer op die pad dat jy van hom verlos mag word; anders mag hy jou voor die regter sleep, en die regter jou aan die balju oorgee, en die balju jou in die gevangenis gooi.

I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
Ek sê vir jou, Jy sal daar geensins uitgaan nie, totdat jy die allerlaaste mitt betaal het.
