1
O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.
O julle kinders van Benjamin, kom bymekaar om uit die midde van Jérusalem te vlug, en blaas die trompet in Tekoa, en sit ’n teken van vuur in Bet-Hakkerem op: want kwaad verskyn uit die noorde, en ’n groot vernietiging.

I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate [woman].
Ek het die dogter van Sion vergelyk met ‚'n mooi en delikate vrou.
3
The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch [their] tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.
Die herders met hulle troppe sal tot haar kom; hulle sal hulle tente teen haar rondom opslaan; hulle sal elkeen in sy plek wei.
4
Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
Berei julle teen haar vir die oorlog; staan op, en laat ons op die middag optrek. Wee ons! want die dag gaan weg, want die skaduwees van die aand is uitgestrek.

Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
Staan op, en laat ons in die nag optrek, en laat ons haar paleise vernietig.

For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this [is] the city to be visited; she [is] wholly oppression in the midst of her.
Want so het die HERE van leërskare gesê, Kap bome af, en gooi ’n wal op teen Jérusalem: dit is die stad wat besoek moet word; sy is heeltemal verdrukking in die midde van haar.

As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually [is] grief and wounds.
Soos ‚'n fontein haar waters uitwerp, so werp sy haar goddeloosheid uit: geweld en roof word daarin gehoor; voor My voortdurend is smart en wonde.

Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
Wees onderrig, o Jérusalem, dat my siel nie van jou afwyk nie; dat ek jou nie ’n verwoesting maak, ’n land nie bewoon nie.
9
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.
So sê die HERE van leërskare, Hulle sal die oorblyfsel van Israel soos ’n wingerdstok deeglik afpluk: draai jou hand terug soos ’n wynoeser in die mandjies.

To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
Aan wie sal ek spreek, en getuig, dat hulle mag hoor? kyk, hulle oor is onbesnede, en hulle kan nie luister nie: kyk, die woord van die HERE is vir hulle ‚'n smaad; hulle het geen behae daarin nie.

Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with [him that is] full of days.
Daarom is ek vol van die grimmigheid van die HERE; ek is moeg om dit in te hou: ek sal dit uitstort op die kinders buite, en op die vergadering van jongmanne saam: want selfs die man met die vrou sal geneem word, die bejaarde met hom wat vol van dae is.

And their houses shall be turned unto others, [with their] fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
En hulle huise sal tot ander oorgegaan word, met hulle velde en vroue saam: want ek sal my hand uitsteek teen die inwoners van die land, sê die HERE.

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one [is] given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Want van die geringste van hulle af selfs tot die grootste van hulle is elkeen gegee tot hebsug; en van die profeet af selfs tot die priester handel elkeen bedrieglik.

They have healed also the hurt [of the daughter] of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when [there is] no peace.
Hulle het ook die wond van die dogter van my volk ligtelik genees, sê, Vrede, vrede; wanneer daar geen vrede is nie.
15
Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time [that] I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Was hulle beskaamd toe hulle die gruwel gepleeg het? nee, hulle was glad nie beskaamd nie, en hulle kon ook nie bloos nie: daarom sal hulle val onder dié wat val: in die tyd van hulle besoeking sal hulle neergewerp word, sê die HERE.

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where [is] the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk [therein].
So sê die HERE, Staan in die weë, en sien, en vra na die ou paaie, waar die goeie weg is, en wandel daarin, en julle sal rus vind vir julle siele. Maar hulle het gesê, Ons sal nie daarin wandel nie.

Also I set watchmen over you, [saying], Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
Ook het ek wagters oor julle gestel, sê, Luister na die klank van die trompet. Maar hulle het gesê, Ons sal nie luister nie.
18
Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what [is] among them.
Daarom hoor, julle nasies, en ken, o vergadering, wat onder hulle is.
19
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, [even] the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Hoor, o aarde: kyk, ek sal kwaad bring op hierdie volk, selfs die vrug van hulle gedagtes, omdat hulle nie na my woorde geluister het nie, en my wet, maar dit verwerp het.
20
To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings [are] not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.
Tot watter doel kom daar tot My wierook van Seba, en die soet riet uit ‚'n ver land? julle brandoffers is nie aangenaam nie, en julle offers is My nie soet nie.

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.
Daarom so sê die HERE, Kyk, ek sal struikelblokke voor hierdie volk lê, en die vaders en die seuns saam sal daaroor val; die naaste en sy vriend sal vergaan.
22
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
So sê die HERE, Kyk, ’n volk kom uit die noordelike land, en ’n groot nasie sal opgewek word uit die kante van die aarde.
23
They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they [are] cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.
Hulle sal boog en spies vashou; hulle is wreed, en het geen medelye nie; hulle stem bruis soos die see; en hulle ry op perde, gereed soos manne vir die oorlog teen jou, o dogter van Sion.

We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, [and] pain, as of a woman in travail.
Ons het die gerug daarvan gehoor: ons hande word flou: angs het ons aangegryp, en pyn, soos van ‚'n vrou in barensnood.
25
Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy [and] fear [is] on every side.
Moenie uitgaan in die veld nie, en moenie op die pad wandel nie; want die swaard van die vyand en vrees is aan alle kante.
26
O daughter of my people, gird [thee] with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, [as for] an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
O dogter van my volk, omgord jou met sakdoek, en rol jou in die as: maak jou rou soos vir ‚'n enigste seun, die bitterste weeklag: want die verwoester sal skielik oor ons kom.
27
I have set thee [for] a tower [and] a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.
Ek het jou tot ‚'n toring en ‚'n vesting onder my volk gestel, dat jy hulle weg mag ken en toets.
28
They [are] all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: [they are] brass and iron; they [are] all corrupters.
Hulle is almal gruwelike afvalliges, wat met laster rondgaan: hulle is koper en yster; hulle is almal verdorwenes.
29
The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.
Die blaasbalk is verbrand, die lood is deur die vuur verteer; die smelter smelt tevergeefs: want die goddelose is nie weggeneem nie.
30
Reprobate silver shall [men] call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
Verwerp silwer sal mense hulle noem, omdat die HERE hulle verwerp het.
