The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.
So sê die HERE; Kyk, waters kom op uit die noorde, en sal ’n oorstromende vloed wees, en sal die land, en al wat daarin is, oorstroom, die stad, en dié wat daarin woon: dan sal die mense skreeu, en al die inwoners van die land sal huil.

At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong [horses], at the rushing of his chariots, [and at] the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to [their] children for feebleness of hands;
By die geraas van die stamp van die hoewe van sy sterk perde, by die gejaag van sy strydwaens, en by die gerammel van sy wiele, sal die vaders nie omkyk na hulle kinders nie vanweë swakheid van hande;

Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, [and] to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
Vanweë die dag wat kom om al die Filistyne te verwoes, en om van Tirus en Sidon elke helper wat oorbly, af te sny: want die HERE sal die Filistyne, die oorblyfsel van die land van Kaftor, verwoes.

Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off [with] the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
Kaalheid is oor Gaza gekom; Askelon is afgesny met die oorblyfsel van hulle vallei: hoe lank sal jy jouself sny?

O thou sword of the LORD, how long [will it be] ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
O jy swaard van die HERE, hoe lank sal dit wees voordat jy stil word? steek jouself in jou skede, rus, en wees stil.

How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
Hoe kan dit stil wees, aangesien die HERE dit ‚'n bevel gegee het teen Askelon, en teen die seestrand? daar het Hy dit aangewys.
