1
The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
Die woord wat die profeet Jeremia tot Barug die seun van Nería gespreek het, toe hy hierdie woorde in ’n boek uit die mond van Jeremia geskrywe het, in die vierde jaar van Jójakim die seun van Josía koning van Juda, sê,

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;
So sê die HERE, die God van Israel, tot jou, o Barug;

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
Jy het gesê, Wee my nou! want die HERE het smart by my smart bygevoeg; ek het van my sugting moeg geword, en ek vind geen rus nie.

Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, [that] which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
So moet jy tot hom sê, Die HERE sê so; Kyk, dit wat ek gebou het, sal ek afbreek, en dit wat ek geplant het, sal ek uitruk, selfs hierdie hele land.

And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek [them] not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
En soek jy groot dinge vir jouself? soek hulle nie: want kyk, ek sal kwaad bring op alle vlees, sê die HERE: maar jou lewe sal ek jou tot ’n prooi gee in al die plekke waarheen jy gaan.
