Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
Toe het al die kapteins van die leërs, en Johanan die seun van Kareah, en Jesanja die seun van Hosaja, en al die volk van die geringste selfs tot die grootste, nader gekom,

And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, [even] for all this remnant; (for we are left [but] a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
En tot die profeet Jeremia gesê, Laat, ons bid jou, ons smeking voor jou aanvaar word, en bid vir ons tot die HERE jou God, selfs vir al hierdie oorblyfsel; (want ons is min van baie oorgelaat, soos jou oë ons sien:)

That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
Dat die HERE jou God ons mag wys die weg waarin ons moet wandel, en die ding wat ons moet doen.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard [you]; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, [that] whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare [it] unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
Toe het die profeet Jeremia tot hulle gesê, Ek het julle gehoor; kyk, ek sal tot die HERE julle God bid volgens julle woorde; en dit sal gebeur, dat wat ook al die HERE julle sal antwoord, ek sal dit aan julle verklaar; ek sal niks van julle agterhou nie.

Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.
Toe het hulle tot Jeremia gesê, Die HERE is ’n ware en getroue getuie tussen ons, as ons nie doen volgens alles waarvoor die HERE jou God jou tot ons sal stuur nie.

Whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.
Of dit goed is, of sleg, ons sal die stem van die HERE onse God gehoorsaam, tot wie ons jou stuur; dat dit met ons goed mag gaan, wanneer ons die stem van die HERE onse God gehoorsaam.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.
En dit het gebeur ná tien dae, dat die woord van die HERE tot Jeremia gekom het.

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which [were] with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
Toe het hy Johanan die seun van Kareah, en al die kapteins van die leërs wat by hom was, en al die volk van die geringste selfs tot die grootste, geroep,
9
And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;
En tot hulle gesê, So sê die HERE, die God van Israel, tot wie julle my gestuur het om julle smeking voor Hom neer te lê;
10
If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull [you] down, and I will plant you, and not pluck [you] up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.
As julle nog in hierdie land wil bly, dan sal ek julle bou, en nie afbreek nie, en ek sal julle plant, en nie uitruk nie: want ek berou My oor die kwaad wat ek aan julle gedoen het.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I [am] with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
Wees nie bang vir die koning van Babel nie, vir wie julle bang is: wees nie bang vir hom nie, sê die HERE: want ek is met julle om julle te red, en om julle uit sy hand te verlos.

And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
En ek sal julle barmhartigheid bewys, dat hy medelye met julle mag hê, en julle terugbring na julle eie land.
13
But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,
Maar as julle sê, Ons sal nie in hierdie land bly nie, en nie die stem van die HERE julle God gehoorsaam nie,
14
Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:
Sê, Nee; maar ons sal in die land van Egipte ingaan, waar ons geen oorlog sal sien nie, en die klank van die trompet nie hoor nie, en nie honger ly vir brood nie; en daar sal ons woon:

And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
En nou daarom hoor die woord van die HERE, julle oorblyfsel van Juda; So sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel; As julle julle aangesigte sekerlik stel om in Egipte in te gaan, en daarheen gaan om daar te woon;
16
Then it shall come to pass, [that] the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
Dan sal dit gebeur, dat die swaard, waarvan julle bang is, julle daar in die land van Egipte sal inhaal, en die hongersnood, waarvan julle bang is, sal julle daar in Egipte agtervolg; en daar sal julle sterwe.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
So sal dit wees met al die manne wat hulle aangesigte stel om in Egipte in te gaan om daar te woon; hulle sal sterwe deur die swaard, deur die hongersnood, en deur die pes: en nie een van hulle sal oorbly of ontvlug van die kwaad wat ek oor hulle sal bring nie.
18
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
Want so sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel; Soos my toorn en my grimmigheid uitgestort is op die inwoners van Jérusalem; so sal my grimmigheid op julle uitgestort word, wanneer julle in Egipte ingaan: en julle sal ’n vervloeking, en ’n verwoesting, en ’n vloek, en ’n smaad wees; en julle sal hierdie plek nie meer sien nie.

The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.
Die HERE het aangaande julle, o julle oorblyfsel van Juda, gespreek; Moet nie in Egipte ingaan nie: weet sekerlik dat ek vandag teen julle getuig het.
20
For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do [it].
Want julle het bedrieglik in julle harte gehandel, toe julle my tot die HERE julle God gestuur het, sê, Bid vir ons tot die HERE onse God; en volgens alles wat die HERE onse God sal sê, so verklaar aan ons, en ons sal dit doen.
21
And [now] I have this day declared [it] to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any [thing] for the which he hath sent me unto you.
En nou het ek dit vandag aan julle verklaar; maar julle het nie die stem van die HERE julle God gehoorsaam nie, en ook niks van alles waarvoor Hy my tot julle gestuur het nie.
22
Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go [and] to sojourn.
Nou daarom weet sekerlik dat julle deur die swaard, deur die hongersnood, en deur die pes sal sterwe, in die plek waarheen julle begeer om te gaan om daar te woon.
