Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
Toe het Sefatja die seun van Mattan, en Gedalja die seun van Pashur, en Jukal die seun van Selemja, en Pashur die seun van Malkía, die woorde gehoor wat Jeremia tot die hele volk gespreek het, sê,

Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
So sê die HERE, Hy wat in hierdie stad bly, sal sterwe deur die swaard, deur die hongersnood, en deur die pes: maar hy wat uitgaan na die Chaldeërs, sal lewe; want hy sal sy lewe tot ’n prooi hê, en sal lewe.

Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.
So sê die HERE, Hierdie stad sal sekerlik in die hand van die leër van die koning van Babel oorgegee word, wat dit sal inneem.
4
Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
Daarom het die vorstes tot die koning gesê, Ons bid jou, laat hierdie man doodgemaak word: want so verswak hy die hande van die manne van oorlog wat in hierdie stad oorbly, en die hande van die hele volk, deur sulke woorde tot hulle te spreek: want hierdie man soek nie die welstand van hierdie volk nie, maar die skade.

Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he [is] in your hand: for the king [is] not [he that] can do [any] thing against you.
Toe het koning Sedekía gesê, Kyk, hy is in julle hand: want die koning is nie in staat om enigiets teen julle te doen nie.

Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that [was] in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon [there was] no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
Toe het hulle Jeremia geneem, en hom in die put van Malkía die seun van Hameleg gewerp, wat in die voorhof van die gevangenis was: en hulle het Jeremia met toue neergelaat. En in die put was daar geen water nie, maar slyk: so het Jeremia in die slyk gesink.

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
Nou toe Ebed-Méleg die Etiopiër, een van die hofdienaars wat in die koning se huis was, gehoor het dat hulle Jeremia in die put gesit het; die koning het toe in die poort van Benjamin gesit;

Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house, and spake to the king, saying,
Het Ebed-Méleg uitgegaan uit die koning se huis, en tot die koning gespreek, sê,

My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for [there is] no more bread in the city.
My heer die koning, hierdie manne het sleg gehandel in al wat hulle aan die profeet Jeremia gedoen het, wat hulle in die put gewerp het; en hy is daar van honger dood, in die plek waar hy is: want daar is geen meer brood in die stad nie.

Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
Toe het die koning die Etiopiër Ebed-Méleg beveel, sê, Neem van hier dertig manne met jou, en trek die profeet Jeremia uit die put op, voordat hy sterwe.

So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
So het Ebed-Méleg die manne met hom geneem, en in die huis van die koning onder die skatkamer gegaan, en van daar ou verslete klere en ou verslete vodde geneem, en dit met toue na Jeremia in die put laat sak.

And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now [these] old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
En die Etiopiër Ebed-Méleg het tot Jeremia gesê, Sit nou hierdie ou verslete klere en verslete vodde onder jou oksels onder die toue. En Jeremia het so gedoen.

So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
So het hulle Jeremia met die toue opgetrek, en hom uit die put opgetrek: en Jeremia het in die voorhof van die gevangenis gebly.

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that [is] in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
Toe het koning Sedekía gestuur, en die profeet Jeremia na hom geneem in die derde ingang wat in die huis van die HERE is: en die koning het tot Jeremia gesê, Ek sal jou ’n ding vra; verberg niks van my nie.

Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare [it] unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
Toe het Jeremia tot Sedekía gesê, As ek dit aan jou verklaar, sal jy my nie sekerlik doodmaak nie? en as ek jou raad gee, sal jy nie na my luister nie?

So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, [As] the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
So het koning Sedekía in die geheim tot Jeremia gesweer, sê, So waar as die HERE lewe, wat ons hierdie siel gemaak het, ek sal jou nie doodmaak nie, en ek sal jou nie in die hand van hierdie manne oorgee wat jou lewe soek nie.

Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
Toe het Jeremia tot Sedekía gesê, So sê die HERE, die God van leërskare, die God van Israel; As jy sekerlik uitgaan tot die koning van Babel se vorstes, dan sal jou siel lewe, en hierdie stad sal nie met vuur verbrand word nie; en jy sal lewe, en jou huis:

But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
Maar as jy nie uitgaan tot die koning van Babel se vorstes nie, dan sal hierdie stad in die hand van die Chaldeërs oorgegee word, en hulle sal dit met vuur verbrand, en jy sal nie uit hulle hand ontvlug nie.

And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
En koning Sedekía het tot Jeremia gesê, Ek is bang vir die Jode wat na die Chaldeërs afgeval het, dat hulle my in hulle hand mag oorgee, en hulle my mag bespot.

But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver [thee]. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
Maar Jeremia het gesê, Hulle sal jou nie oorgee nie. Gehoorsaam, ek bid jou, die stem van die HERE, wat ek tot jou spreek: so sal dit met jou goed gaan, en jou siel sal lewe.

But if thou refuse to go forth, this [is] the word that the LORD hath shewed me:
Maar as jy weier om uit te gaan, is dit die woord wat die HERE my gewys het:
22
And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house [shall be] brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those [women] shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, [and] they are turned away back.
En kyk, al die vroue wat in die koning van Juda se huis oorbly, sal uitgebring word na die koning van Babel se vorstes, en daardie vroue sal sê, Jou vriende het jou aangesit, en jou oorwin: jou voete is in die slyk gesink, en hulle het teruggetrek.

So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
So sal hulle al jou vroue en jou kinders na die Chaldeërs uitbring: en jy sal nie uit hulle hand ontvlug nie, maar deur die hand van die koning van Babel gevange geneem word: en jy sal hierdie stad met vuur veroordeel.

Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
Toe het Sedekía tot Jeremia gesê, Laat niemand hierdie woorde weet nie, en jy sal nie sterwe nie.
25
But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
Maar as die vorstes hoor dat ek met jou gespreek het, en hulle tot jou kom, en tot jou sê, Verklaar nou aan ons wat jy tot die koning gesê het, verberg dit nie van ons nie, en ons sal jou nie doodmaak nie; en ook wat die koning tot jou gesê het:

Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.
Dan moet jy tot hulle sê, Ek het my smeking voor die koning neergelê, dat hy my nie terugbring na Jonatan se huis, om daar te sterwe nie.
27
Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
Toe het al die vorstes tot Jeremia gekom, en hom gevra: en hy het hulle volgens al hierdie woorde wat die koning beveel het, geantwoord. So het hulle opgehou om met hom te praat; want die saak was nie gehoor nie.

So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was [there] when Jerusalem was taken.
So het Jeremia in die voorhof van die gevangenis gebly tot die dag dat Jérusalem ingeneem is: en hy was daar toe Jérusalem ingeneem is.
