1
In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,
In die begin van die regering van Jójakim die seun van Josía koning van Juda het hierdie woord van die HERE gekom, sê,

Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
So sê die HERE; Staan in die voorhof van die huis van die HERE, en spreek tot al die stede van Juda, wat kom om in die huis van die HERE te aanbid, al die woorde wat ek jou beveel om tot hulle te spreek; verminder nie ’n woord nie:

If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
As hulle miskien wil luister, en elkeen van sy boos weg afkeer, dat ek My mag berou oor die kwaad, wat ek voorneme is om aan hulle te doen vanweë die boosheid van hulle doenings.

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,
En jy sal tot hulle sê, So sê die HERE; As julle nie na My wil luister om in my wet te wandel, wat ek voor julle gestel het nie,

To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending [them], but ye have not hearkened;
Om te luister na die woorde van my dienaars die profete, wat ek tot julle gestuur het, beide vroeg opstaande, en stuurende hulle, maar julle het nie gehoor nie;
6
Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
Dan sal ek hierdie huis soos Silo maak, en sal hierdie stad ‚'n vloek maak vir al die nasies van die aarde.

So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
So het die priesters en die profete en al die volk Jeremia gehoor wat hierdie woorde in die huis van die HERE gespreek het.

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded [him] to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
En dit het gebeur, toe Jeremia geëindig het om te spreek al wat die HERE beveel het om tot al die volk te spreek, dat die priesters en die profete en al die volk hom aangegryp het, sê, Jy moet sekerlik sterwe.

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
Waarom het jy in die Naam van die HERE geprofeteer, sê, Hierdie huis sal soos Silo wees, en hierdie stad sal verwoes word sonder inwoner? En al die volk is in die huis van die HERE teen Jeremia bymekaargekom.

When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S [house].
Toe die vorstes van Juda hierdie dinge gehoor het, het hulle uit die koning se huis opgegaan in die huis van die HERE, en het by die ingang van die nuwe poort van die HERE se huis gesit.

Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man [is] worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
Toe het die priesters en die profete tot die vorstes en tot al die volk gespreek, sê, Hierdie man is die dood werd; want hy het teen hierdie stad geprofeteer, soos julle met julle ore gehoor het.

Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.
Toe het Jeremia tot al die vorstes en tot al die volk gespreek, sê, Die HERE het my gestuur om teen hierdie huis en teen hierdie stad al die woorde te profeteer wat julle gehoor het.

Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.
Daarom verbeter nou julle weë en julle doenings, en gehoorsaam die stem van die HERE julle God; en die HERE sal Hom berou oor die kwaad wat Hy teen julle uitgespreek het.

As for me, behold, I [am] in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.
Wat my betref, kyk, ek is in julle hand: doen met my soos dit goed en reg is in julle oë.
15
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
Maar weet julle sekerlik, dat as julle my doodmaak, julle sekerlik onskuldige bloed op julleself, en op hierdie stad, en op die inwoners daarvan, sal bring: want waarlik die HERE het my tot julle gestuur om al hierdie woorde in julle ore te spreek.

Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man [is] not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.
Toe het die vorstes en al die volk tot die priesters en tot die profete gesê; Hierdie man is nie die dood werd nie: want hy het tot ons in die Naam van die HERE onse God gespreek.

Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,
Toe het sekere van die oudstes van die land opgestaan, en tot die hele vergadering van die volk gespreek, sê,
18
Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed [like] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.
Miga die Morastiet het in die dae van Hiskía koning van Juda geprofeteer, en tot die hele volk van Juda gespreek, sê, So sê die HERE van leërskare; Sion sal soos ’n veld geploeg word, en Jérusalem sal hope word, en die berg van die huis soos die hoë plekke van ’n woud.

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.
Het Hiskía koning van Juda en die hele Juda hom ooit doodgemaak? het hy nie die HERE gevrees, en die HERE gesmeek nie, en die HERE het Hom berou oor die kwaad wat Hy teen hulle uitgespreek het? So sou ons dan ’n groot kwaad teen ons siele doen.

And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
En daar was ook ’n man wat in die Naam van die HERE geprofeteer het, Uria die seun van Semaja van Kirjat-Jeárim, wat teen hierdie stad en teen hierdie land geprofeteer het volgens al die woorde van Jeremia:

And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;
En toe koning Jójakim, met al sy magtiges, en al die vorstes, sy woorde gehoor het, het die koning hom probeer doodmaak; maar toe Uria dit gehoor het, was hy bang, en het gevlug, en in Egipte gegaan;

And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, [namely], Elnathan the son of Achbor, and [certain] men with him into Egypt.
En koning Jójakim het manne in Egipte gestuur, naamlik Elnatan die seun van Agbor, en sekere manne met hom in Egipte.

And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
En hulle het Uria uit Egipte uitgehaal, en hom na koning Jójakim gebring; wat hom met die swaard doodgeslaan het, en sy dooie liggaam in die grafte van die gemeen volk gewerp het.

Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
Nogtans was die hand van Ahíkam die seun van Safan met Jeremia, dat hulle hom nie in die hand van die volk sou oorgee om hom dood te maak nie.
