Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

Bowendien het die woord van die HERE tot my gekom, sê,

Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land [that was] not sown.

Gaan en roep in die ore van Jérusalem, sê, So sê die HERE; Ek onthou jou, die goedertierenheid van jou jeug, die liefde van jou verlowing, wanneer jy agter My aangegaan het in die wildernis, in ’n land wat nie gesaai is nie.

Israel [was] holiness unto the LORD, [and] the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

Israel was heiligheid tot die HERE, en die eerselinge van sy toename: almal wat hom verteer het, was skuldig; onheil het op hulle gekom, sê die HERE.

Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

Hoor die woord van die HERE, o huis van Jakob, en al die gesinne van die huis van Israel:

Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

So sê die HERE, Watter ongeregtigheid het julle vaders in My gevind, dat hulle ver van My afgewyk het, en agter ydelheid aangegaan het, en ydel geword het?

Neither said they, Where [is] the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

En hulle het nie gesê nie, Waar is die HERE wat ons opgebring het uit die land van Egipte, wat ons gelei het deur die wildernis, deur ’n land van woestyne en van putte, deur ’n land van droogte, en van die skaduwee van die dood, deur ’n land wat niemand deurgegaan het nie, en waar geen mens gewoon het nie?

And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

En ek het julle in ‚'n vrugbare land gebring, om die vrug daarvan en die goedheid daarvan te eet; maar toe julle daarin gekom het, het julle my land verontreinig, en my erfenis ‚'n gruwel gemaak.

The priests said not, Where [is] the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after [things that] do not profit.

Die priesters het nie gesê nie, Waar is die HERE? en dié wat die wet hanteer het, het My nie geken nie: die herders het ook teen My oortree, en die profete het deur Baäl geprofeteer, en agter dinge aangegaan wat nie baat nie.

Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children’s children will I plead.

Daarom sal ek nog met julle twis, sê die HERE, en met julle kinders se kinders sal ek twis.

For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

Want gaan oor na die eilande van Kittim, en sien; en stuur na Kedar, en oorweeg ywerig, en sien of daar so iets is.

Hath a nation changed [their] gods, which [are] yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for [that which] doth not profit.

Het ‚'n nasie hulle gode verander, wat tog geen gode is nie? maar my volk het hulle heerlikheid verander vir dit wat nie baat nie.

Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

Wees verstom, o julle hemele, hieroor, en wees verskrik, wees baie verwoes, sê die HERE.

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, [and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

Want my volk het twee booshede gedoen; hulle het My, die fontein van lewende waters, verlaat, en vir hulleself bakke uitgekap, gebreekte bakke, wat geen water kan hou nie.

[Is] Israel a servant? [is] he a homeborn [slave]? why is he spoiled?

Is Israel ‚'n dienskneg? is hy ‚'n huisgeborene? waarom is hy dan ‚'n prooi?

The young lions roared upon him, [and] yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

Die jong leeus het oor hom gebrul, en hulle stem verhef, en hulle het sy land verwoes gemaak: sy stede is verbrand sonder inwoner.

Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

Ook die kinders van Nof en Tahpanhes het die kruin van jou hoof afgeëet.

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

Het jy dit nie self vir jou aangedoen nie, deurdat jy die HERE jou God verlaat het, toe Hy jou op die weg gelei het?

And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

En nou, wat het jy te doen in die weg van Egipte, om die waters van Síhor te drink? of wat het jy te doen in die weg van Assirië, om die waters van die rivier te drink?

Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that [it is] an evil [thing] and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear [is] not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Jou eie goddeloosheid sal jou tugtig, en jou afkerighede sal jou bestraf: weet daarom en sien dat dit ’n boos ding en bitter is, dat jy die HERE jou God verlaat het, en dat my vrees nie in jou is nie, sê die Here GOD van leërskare.

For of old time I have broken thy yoke, [and] burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

Want van ouds af het ek jou juk verbreek, en jou bande losgemaak; en jy het gesê, Ek sal nie oortree nie; toe jy op elke hoë heuwel en onder elke groen boom gelê het, speel jy die hoer.

Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

Tog het ek jou ‚'n edele wingerdstok geplant, ‚'n heel saad: hoe is jy dan vir My verander in die ontaarde plant van ‚'n vreemde wingerdstok?

For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, [yet] thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

Want al was jy jou met loog, en neem jy baie seep, tog is jou ongeregtigheid voor My gemerk, sê die Here GOD.

How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: [thou art] a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

Hoe kan jy sê, Ek is nie verontreinig nie, ek het nie agter die Baäls aangegaan nie? sien jou weg in die vallei, ken wat jy gedoen het: jy is ’n vinnige drommedaris wat haar weë omkeer;

A wild ass used to the wilderness, [that] snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

‚'n Wilde eselin wat gewoond is aan die wildernis, wat die wind na die begeerte van haar siel snuif; in haar geleentheid wie kan haar afkeer? almal wat haar soek, sal haar nie moeg word nie; in haar maand sal hulle haar vind.

Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

Weerhou jou voet van ongeskoei te wees, en jou keel van dors: maar jy het gesê, Daar is geen hoop nie: nee, want ek het vreemdelinge lief, en agter hulle sal ek aangaan.

As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

Soos die dief beskaamd is wanneer hy gevind word, so is die huis van Israel beskaamd; hulle, hulle konings, hulle vorstes, en hulle priesters, en hulle profete,

Saying to a stock, Thou [art] my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned [their] back unto me, and not [their] face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

Wat tot ’n stam sê, Jy is my vader; en tot ’n steen, Jy het my voortgebring: want hulle het hulle rug tot My gekeer, en nie hulle aangesig nie: maar in die tyd van hulle benoudheid sal hulle sê, Staan op, en red ons.

But where [are] thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for [according to] the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

Maar waar is jou gode wat jy vir jouself gemaak het? laat hulle opstaan, as hulle jou kan red in die tyd van jou benoudheid: want volgens die getal van jou stede is jou gode, o Juda.

Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

Waarom wil julle met My twis? julle almal het teen My oortree, sê die HERE.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

Tevergeefs het ek julle kinders geslaan; hulle het geen tugtiging ontvang nie: julle eie swaard het julle profete verteer, soos ‚'n vernietigende leeu.

O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

O geslag, sien julle die woord van die HERE. Is ek ’n wildernis vir Israel geword? ’n land van duisternis? waarom sê my volk dan, Ons is here; ons sal nie meer tot U kom nie?

Can a maid forget her ornaments, [or] a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

Kan ‚'n maagd haar sierades vergeet, of ‚'n bruid haar versiersels? tog het my volk My vergeet dae sonder getal.

Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

Waarom versier jy jou weg om liefde te soek? daarom het jy ook die boos vroue jou weë geleer.

Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

Ook in jou rompe is die bloed van die siele van die armes onskuldiges gevind: ek het dit nie deur inbraak gevind nie, maar op al hierdie.

Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

Tog sê jy, Omdat ek onskuldig is, sekerlik sal sy toorn van my af wegkeer. Kyk, ek sal met jou twis, omdat jy sê, Ek het nie gesondig nie.

Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

Waarom gaan jy so heen en weer om jou weg te verander? jy sal ook van Egipte beskaamd word, soos jy van Assirië beskaamd was.

Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

Ja, jy sal ook van daar uitgaan, met jou hande op jou hoof: want die HERE het dié in wie jy vertrou, verwerp, en jy sal nie voorspoedig wees in hulle nie.
