Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.
Bowendien het die HERE tot my gesê, Neem jou ’n groot boekrol, en skryf daarin met ’n man se pen aangaande Mahér-Salal-Has-Bas.

And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
En ek het vir my getroue getuies geneem, Uriá die priester, en Sagaría die seun van Jeberegjá.

And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.
En ek het tot die profetes gegaan; en sy het ontvang, en ’n seun gebaar. Toe het die HERE tot my gesê, Noem sy naam Mahér-Salal-Has-Bas.

For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
Want voordat die kind sal weet om te roep, My vader, en my moeder, sal die rykdom van Damaskus en die buit van Samaría weggeneem word voor die koning van Assirië.

The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,
Die HERE het ook weer tot my gespreek, sê,
6
Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;
Omdat hierdie volk die waters van Silóa verwerp wat saggies vloei, en juig in Resín en Remalja se seun;
7
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, [even] the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
Nou daarom, kyk, die Here bring op hulle die waters van die rivier, sterk en baie, selfs die koning van Assirië, en al sy heerlikheid: en hy sal al sy kanale opgaan, en oor al sy banke gaan:

And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach [even] to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
En hy sal deur Juda trek; hy sal oorstroom en deurgaan, hy sal tot by die nek reik; en die uitstrek van sy vlerke sal die breedte van jou land vul, o Immanuel.

Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
Verenig julle, o julle volk, en julle sal verbreek word; en gee oor, al julle van ver lande: omgord julle, en julle sal verbreek word; omgord julle, en julle sal verbreek word.

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God [is] with us.
Neem raad saam, en dit sal tot niet kom; spreek die woord, en dit sal nie stand hou nie: want God is met ons.
11
For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
Want die HERE het so tot my gespreek met ’n sterk hand, en my onderrig dat ek nie in die weg van hierdie volk moet wandel nie, sê,
12
Say ye not, A confederacy, to all [them to] whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
Sê nie, ’n Sameswering, aan almal aan wie hierdie volk sal sê, ’n Sameswering; en vreest nie hulle vrees nie, en wees nie bevrees nie.

Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and [let] him [be] your fear, and [let] him [be] your dread.
Heilig die HERE van leërskare self; en laat Hom julle vrees wees, en laat Hom julle verskrikking wees.
14
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
En Hy sal vir ’n heiligdom wees; maar vir ’n steen van aanstoot en vir ’n rots van struikeling vir albei die huise van Israel, vir ’n strik en vir ’n valstrik vir die inwoners van Jérusalem.

And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
En baie onder hulle sal struikel, en val, en verbreek word, en verstrik word, en gevang word.
16
Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
Bind die getuienis toe, verseël die wet onder my dissipels.
17
And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
En ek sal op die HERE wag, wat sy aangesig verberg van die huis van Jakob, en ek sal op Hom hoop.
18
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me [are] for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
Kyk, ek en die kinders wat die HERE my gegee het, is tot tekens en tot wonders in Israel van die HERE van leërskare, wat in die berg Sion woon.

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
En wanneer hulle tot julle sê, Soek dié wat geeste van dooies raadpleeg, en die waarsêers, wat piep, en wat mompel: moet ’n volk nie sy God soek nie? vir die lewendes tot die dooies?

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.
Tot die wet en tot die getuienis: as hulle nie volgens hierdie woord spreek nie, is dit omdat daar geen lig in hulle is nie.
21
And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
En hulle sal daardeur hard gaan, en hard honger ly: en dit sal gebeur, wanneer hulle honger is, dat hulle hulself sal ontstel, en hulle koning en hulle God vervloek, en opwaarts kyk.

And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and [they shall be] driven to darkness.
En hulle sal na die aarde kyk; en kyk benoudheid en duisternis, dimheid van angs; en hulle sal in die duisternis gedryf word.
