1
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
Roep hard, spaar nie, hef jou stem op soos ‚'n trompet, en verklaar aan my volk hulle oortreding, en aan die huis van Jakob hulle sondes.
2
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
Tog soek hulle My daagliks, en behae daarin om my weë te ken, soos ’n nasie wat geregtigheid doen, en die ordonnanse van hulle God nie verlaat het nie: hulle vra van My die ordonnanse van geregtigheid; hulle neem behae in om tot God te nader.

Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
Waarom het ons gevas, sê hulle, en U sien dit nie? waarom het ons ons siel gekasty, en U neem dit nie in ag nie? Kyk, in die dag van julle vas vind julle behae, en dryf al julle arbeid aan.

Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as [ye do this] day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
Kyk, julle vas vir twis en stryd, en om met die vuis van goddeloosheid te slaan: julle sal nie soos vandag vas, om julle stem in die hoogte te laat hoor nie.

Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? [is it] to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
Is dit so ‚'n vas wat ek verkies het? ‚'n dag vir ‚'n mens om sy siel te kasty? is dit om sy hoof soos ‚'n biesie te buig, en om sakdoek en as onder hom te sprei? sal jy dit ‚'n vas noem, en ‚'n dag wat die HERE behaag?

[Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Is nie dit die vas wat ek verkies het nie? om die bande van goddeloosheid los te maak, om die swaar laste af te haal, en om die verdruktes vry te laat gaan, en dat julle elke juk verbreek?

[Is it] not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Is dit nie om jou brood aan die hongerige uit te deel, en dat jy die armes wat uitgeworpe is, na jou huis bring nie? wanneer jy die naakte sien, dat jy hom bedek; en dat jy jou nie verberg van jou eie vlees nie?

Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
Dan sal jou lig soos die môre uitbreek, en jou gesondheid sal haastig uitspruit: en jou geregtigheid sal voor jou uitgaan; die heerlikheid van die HERE sal jou agterhoede wees.

Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I [am]. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
Dan sal jy roep, en die HERE sal antwoord; jy sal skreeu, en Hy sal sê, Hier is ek. As jy die juk uit die midde van jou wegneem, die steek van die vinger, en die spreek van ydelheid;

And [if] thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness [be] as the noonday:
En as jy jou siel uitstort vir die hongerige, en die benoudte siel versadig; dan sal jou lig in die duisternis opgaan, en jou duisternis sal wees soos die middag:

And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
En die HERE sal jou voortdurend lei, en jou siel in droogtes versadig, en jou bene vet maak: en jy sal wees soos ‚'n besproeide tuin, en soos ‚'n springbron van water, wie se waters nie faal nie.

And [they that shall be] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
En dié wat van jou is, sal die ou verwoeste plekke bou: jy sal die fondamente van baie geslagte oprig; en jy sal genoem word, Die hersteller van die breuk, Die hersteller van paaie om in te woon.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:
As jy jou voet van die sabbat afwend, om jou behae op my heilige dag te doen; en die sabbat ’n behae noem, die heilige van die HERE, eerbaar; en Hom eer, deur nie jou eie weë te doen nie, of jou eie behae te vind, of jou eie woorde te spreek:

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].
Dan sal jy jou in die HERE verlustig; en ek sal jou laat ry op die hoë plekke van die aarde, en jou voed met die erfenis van Jakob jou vader: want die mond van die HERE het dit gespreek.
