And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard [it], that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
En dit het gebeur, toe koning Hiskía dit gehoor het, dat hy sy klere geskeur het, en homself met sakdoek bedek het, en in die huis van die HERE ingegaan het.

And he sent Eliakim, who [was] over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
En hy het Eljakim, wat oor die huis was, en Sebna die skrywer, en die oudstes van die priesters, met sakdoek bedek, na Jesaja die profeet die seun van Amos gestuur.

And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day [is] a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and [there is] not strength to bring forth.
En hulle het tot hom gesê, So sê Hiskía, Hierdie dag is ’n dag van benoudheid, en van bestraffing, en van lastering: want die kinders is gekom tot by die geboorte, en daar is geen krag om te baar nie.

It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up [thy] prayer for the remnant that is left.
Dit mag wees die HERE jou God sal die woorde van die Rab-sake hoor, wat sy heer die koning van Assirië gestuur het om die lewende God te laster, en om die woorde te bestraf wat die HERE jou God gehoor het: daarom hef jy ’n gebed op vir die oorblyfsel wat oorbly.

So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
So het die dienaars van koning Hiskía tot Jesaja gekom.

And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
En Jesaja het tot hulle gesê, So moet julle tot julle heer sê, So sê die HERE, Wees nie bang vir die woorde wat jy gehoor het nie, waarmee die dienaars van die koning van Assirië My gelaster het.

Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Kyk, ek sal ‚'n gees op hom sit, en hy sal ‚'n gerug hoor, en terugkeer na sy eie land; en ek sal hom deur die swaard in sy eie land laat val.

So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
So het die Rab-sake teruggekeer, en die koning van Assirië gevind wat teen Libna geveg het: want hy het gehoor dat hy van Lágis afgetrek het.

And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard [it], he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
En hy het gehoor aangaande Tirhaka koning van Etiopië, Hy is uitgetrek om teen jou te veg. En toe hy dit gehoor het, het hy boodskappers na Hiskía gestuur, sê,

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
So moet julle tot Hiskía koning van Juda spreek, sê, Laat jou God in wie jy vertrou, jou nie bedrieg nie, sê, Jérusalem sal nie in die hand van die koning van Assirië oorgegee word nie.

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Kyk, jy het gehoor wat die konings van Assirië aan al die lande gedoen het deur hulle heeltemal te vernietig: en sal jy verlos word?
12
Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, [as] Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which [were] in Telassar?
Het die gode van die nasies hulle verlos wat my vaders vernietig het, soos Gosan, en Haran, en Resef, en die kinders van Eden wat in Telassar was?

Where [is] the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
Waar is die koning van Hamat, en die koning van Arpad, en die koning van die stad van Sefarváim, Hena, en Iva?

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
En Hiskía het die brief uit die hand van die boodskappers ontvang, en dit gelees: en Hiskía het opgegaan na die huis van die HERE, en dit voor die HERE uitgesprei.

And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,
En Hiskía het tot die HERE gebid, sê,
16
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest [between] the cherubims, thou [art] the God, [even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
O HERE van leërskare, God van Israel, wat tussen die gerubs woon, U is die God, U alleen, van al die koninkryke van die aarde: U het die hemel en die aarde gemaak.
17
Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
Neig u oor, o HERE, en hoor; open u oë, o HERE, en sien: en hoor al die woorde van Sanherib, wat gestuur het om die lewende God te laster.

Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,
Waarlik, HERE, die konings van Assirië het al die nasies en hulle lande verwoes,
19
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they [were] no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
En het hulle gode in die vuur gegooi: want hulle was geen gode nie, maar die werk van mensehande, hout en klip: daarom het hulle hulle vernietig.
20
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou [art] the LORD, [even] thou only.
Nou daarom, o HERE onse God, red ons uit sy hand, dat al die koninkryke van die aarde mag weet dat U die HERE is, U alleen.
21
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:
Toe het Jesaja die seun van Amos tot Hiskía gestuur, sê, So sê die HERE God van Israel, Aangaande dit wat jy tot My gebid het teen Sanherib koning van Assirië:
22
This [is] the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, [and] laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
Dit is die woord wat die HERE aangaande hom gespreek het; Die maagd, die dogter van Sion, het jou verag, en jou uitgelag; die dogter van Jérusalem het haar hoof teen jou geskud.
23
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted [thy] voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? [even] against the Holy One of Israel.
Wie het jy gelaster en gesmaad? en teen wie het jy jou stem verhef, en jou oë in die hoogte opgehef? selfs teen die Heilige van Israel.

By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, [and] the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, [and] the forest of his Carmel.
Deur jou dienaars het jy die Here gelaster, en het gesê, Met die menigte van my strydwaens is ek opgegaan na die hoogte van die berge, na die kante van Líbanon; en ek sal die hoë seders daarvan afkap, en die keurige dennebome daarvan: en ek sal in die hoogte van sy grens ingaan, en die woud van sy Karmel.

I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.
Ek het gegrawe, en water gedrink; en met die sool van my voete het ek al die riviere van die beleërde plekke opgedroog.
26
Hast thou not heard long ago, [how] I have done it; [and] of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities [into] ruinous heaps.
Het jy nie gehoor hoe lank gelede ek dit gedoen het nie, en van ou tye af dit geformeer het nie? nou het ek dit laat gebeur, dat jy versterkte stede in puinhope, verwoeste hope, mag verander.
27
Therefore their inhabitants [were] of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were [as] the grass of the field, and [as] the green herb, [as] the grass on the housetops, and [as corn] blasted before it be grown up.
Daarom was hulle inwoners van klein krag, hulle was verskrik en beskaamd: hulle was soos die gras van die veld, en soos die groen kruid, soos die gras op die dakke, en soos koring voordat dit opgekom het.

But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
Maar ek ken jou verblyf, en jou uitgaan, en jou ingaan, en jou woede teen My.
29
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
Omdat jou woede teen My, en jou tumult, in my ore opgekom het, sal ek daarom my haak in jou neus sit, en my toom in jou lippe, en ek sal jou terugdraai by die weg waarmee jy gekom het.
30
And this [shall be] a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat [this] year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
En dit sal ‚'n teken vir jou wees, Julle sal hierdie jaar eet wat vanself opkom: en in die tweede jaar dit wat vanself groei: en in die derde jaar saai julle, en oes, en plant wingerde, en eet die vrug daarvan.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
En die oorblyfsel wat van die huis van Juda ontvlug is, sal weer wortel afwaarts skiet, en vrugte bo-op dra:
32
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
Want uit Jérusalem sal ’n oorblyfsel uitgaan, en dié wat ontvlug uit die berg Sion: die ywer van die HERE van leërskare sal dit doen.
33
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
Daarom so sê die HERE aangaande die koning van Assirië, Hy sal nie in hierdie stad inkom nie, en hy sal daar geen pyl in skiet nie, en hy sal nie voor dit met skilde kom nie, en hy sal nie ’n wal daarteen opwerp nie.
34
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
By die weg wat hy gekom het, by dieselfde sal hy terugkeer, en hy sal nie in hierdie stad inkom nie, sê die HERE.
35
For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
Want ek sal hierdie stad verdedig om dit te red om my eie ontwil, en om my dienaar Dawid se ontwil.
36
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they [were] all dead corpses.
Toe het die engel van die HERE uitgegaan, en in die kamp van die Assiriërs ’n honderd en vyf-en-tagtig duisend neergeslaan: en toe hulle vroeg in die môre opgestaan het, kyk, hulle was almal dooie liggame.
37
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
So het Sanherib koning van Assirië vertrek, en gegaan en teruggekeer, en in Ninevé gewoon.
38
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
En dit het gebeur, toe hy in die huis van Nisrog sy god aanbid het, dat Adramméleg en Sareser sy seuns hom met die swaard neergeslaan het: en hulle het ontvlug in die land van Armenië: en Esar-Haddon sy seun het in sy plek as koning geregeer.
