1
The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.
Die las van Egipte. Kyk, die HERE ry op ‚'n vinnige wolk, en sal in Egipte kom: en die afgode van Egipte sal by sy teenwoordigheid bewe, en die hart van Egipte sal in die midde daarvan smelt.

And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, [and] kingdom against kingdom.
En ek sal die Egiptenaars teen die Egiptenaars sit: en hulle sal veg elkeen teen sy broer, en elkeen teen sy naaste; stad teen stad, en koninkryk teen koninkryk.

And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
En die gees van Egipte sal in die midde daarvan faal; en ek sal hulle raad vernietig: en hulle sal die afgode soek, en die besweerders, en dié wat geeste van dooies raadpleeg, en die waarsêers.

And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
En die Egiptenaars sal ek oorgee in die hand van ’n wrede heer; en ’n felle koning sal oor hulle heers, sê die Here, die HERE van leërskare.

And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.
En die waters sal van die see af misluk, en die rivier sal uitgedroog en droog word.

And they shall turn the rivers far away; [and] the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.
En hulle sal die riviere ver weglei; en die strome van verdediging sal uitgedroog en droog word: die riete en vlagge sal verwelk.
7
The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no [more].
Die papierrisse by die mond van die strome, en alles wat by die strome gesaai is, sal verdor, weggestoot word, en nie wees nie.

The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish.
Die vissers ook sal treur, en almal wat angel in die strome gooi, sal weeklaag, en dié wat nette oor die waters uitsprei, sal flou word.

Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded.
Bowendien sal dié wat fyn vlas bewerk, en dié wat netwerke weef, beskaamd word.

And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices [and] ponds for fish.
En hulle sal gebroke wees in die doele daarvan, almal wat huur vir lone, sal bedroef van siel wees.
11
Surely the princes of Zoan [are] fools, the counsel of the wise counsellers of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I [am] the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
Sekerlik is die vorstes van Soan dwase, die raad van die wyse raadgewers van Farao is dom geword: hoe sê julle tot Farao, Ek is die seun van die wyse, die seun van ou konings?

Where [are] they? where [are] thy wise [men]? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
Waar is hulle? waar is jou wyse manne? en laat hulle jou nou vertel, en laat hulle weet wat die HERE van leërskare oor Egipte voorneme gehad het.

The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, [even they that are] the stay of the tribes thereof.
Die vorstes van Soan is dwase geword, die vorstes van Nof is bedrieg; hulle het ook Egipte laat dwaal, selfs dié wat die hoeksteen van die stamme daarvan is.

The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken [man] staggereth in his vomit.
Die HERE het ‚'n verdraaide gees in die midde daarvan gemeng: en hulle het Egipte in elke werk daarvan laat dwaal, soos ‚'n dronkaard in sy uitbraaksel swaai.

Neither shall there be [any] work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do.
En daar sal geen werk wees vir Egipte nie, wat die hoof of stert, palm tak of biesie, kan doen.
16
In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
In daardie dag sal Egipte wees soos vroue: en dit sal bewe en vrees vanweë die skudding van die hand van die HERE van leërskare, wat Hy daaroor skud.

And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.
En die land van Juda sal ’n verskrikking wees vir Egipte, elkeen wat daarvan melding maak, sal bang wees in homself, vanweë die raad van die HERE van leërskare, wat Hy daarteen voorneme gehad het.

In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.
In daardie dag sal vyf stede in die land van Egipte wees wat die taal van Kanaän spreek, en tot die HERE van leërskare sweer; een sal genoem word, Die stad van vernietiging.

In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.
In daardie dag sal daar ‚'n altaar tot die HERE in die midde van die land van Egipte wees, en ‚'n pilaar by die grens daarvan tot die HERE.
20
And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them.
En dit sal vir ’n teken en vir ’n getuie tot die HERE van leërskare in die land van Egipte wees: want hulle sal tot die HERE roep vanweë die verdrukkers, en Hy sal hulle ’n verlosser en ’n groot een stuur, en Hy sal hulle red.

And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform [it].
En die HERE sal aan die Egiptenaars bekend wees, en die Egiptenaars sal die HERE in daardie dag ken, en sal offer en offerande doen; ja, hulle sal ‚'n gelofte aan die HERE beloof, en dit betaal.

And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal [it]: and they shall return [even] to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.
En die HERE sal Egipte slaan: Hy sal slaan en genees: en hulle sal terugkeer tot die HERE, en Hy sal vir hulle versoek word, en hulle genees.
23
In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.
In daardie dag sal daar ’n snelweg wees uit Egipte na Assirië, en die Assiriër sal in Egipte kom, en die Egiptenaar in Assirië, en die Egiptenaars sal die Assiriërs dien.

In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, [even] a blessing in the midst of the land:
In daardie dag sal Israel die derde wees met Egipte en met Assirië, selfs ’n seën in die midde van die land:
25
Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed [be] Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.
Wat die HERE van leërskare sal seën, sê, Geseënd is Egipte my volk, en Assirië die werk van my hande, en Israel my erfenis.
