1
[Set] the trumpet to thy mouth. [He shall come] as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
Sit die trompet by jou mond. Hy sal kom soos ‚'n arend teen die huis van die HERE, omdat hulle my verbond oortree het, en teen my wet oortree het.

Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
Israel sal tot My roep, My God, ons ken U.

Israel hath cast off [the thing that is] good: the enemy shall pursue him.
Israel het die goeie verwerp: die vyand sal hom agtervolg.
4
They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew [it] not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
Hulle het konings aangestel, maar nie deur My nie: hulle het vorste gemaak, en ek het dit nie geweet nie: van hulle silwer en hulle goud het hulle vir hulle afgode gemaak, dat hulle afgesny mag word.

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast [thee] off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long [will it be] ere they attain to innocency?
Jou kalf, o Samaría, het jou verwerp; my toorn is teen hulle ontsteek: hoe lank sal dit wees voordat hulle onskuld bereik?

For from Israel [was] it also: the workman made it; therefore it [is] not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
Want uit Israel was dit ook: die werkman het dit gemaak; daarom is dit nie God nie: maar die kalf van Samaría sal in stukkies gebreek word.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.
Want hulle het wind gesaai, en hulle sal storm oes: dit het geen stingel nie: die bot sal geen meel oplewer nie: as dit wel oplewer, sal vreemdelinge dit opsluk.

Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein [is] no pleasure.
Israel is verslind: nou sal hulle onder die heidene wees soos ‚'n vat waarin geen behae is nie.

For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.
Want hulle is opgetrek na Assirië, ’n wilde esel alleen vir homself: Efraim het minnaars gehuur.
10
Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.
Ja, alhoewel hulle onder die nasies gehuur het, sal ek hulle nou bymekaarmaak, en hulle sal ‚'n bietjie treur onder die las van die koning van vorste.

Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
Omdat Efraim baie altare tot sonde gemaak het, is altare vir hom tot sonde.

I have written to him the great things of my law, [but] they were counted as a strange thing.
Ek het aan hom die groot dinge van my wet voorgeskryf, maar hulle is as ‚'n vreemde ding gereken.

They sacrifice flesh [for] the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat [it; but] the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Hulle offer vlees vir die offers van my gawes, en eet dit; maar die HERE neem hulle nie aan nie; nou sal Hy hulle ongeregtigheid onthou, en hulle sondes besoek: hulle sal na Egipte terugkeer.

For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
Want Israel het sy Maker vergeet, en tempels gebou; en Juda het baie versterkte stede vermeerder: maar ek sal ‚'n vuur in sy stede stuur, en dit sal die paleise daarvan verteer.
