When Israel [was] a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

[As] they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
Soos hulle hulle geroep het, so het hulle van hulle weggegaan: hulle het aan Baälím geoffer, en aan gesnede beelde wierook gebrand.

I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
Ek het ook Efraim leer gaan, hulle by die arms geneem; maar hulle het nie geweet dat ek hulle genees het nie.

I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
Ek het hulle met die bande van ’n mens getrek, met die bande van liefde: en ek was vir hulle soos dié wat die juk van hulle kakebene afneem, en ek het voedsel voor hulle neergesit.

He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
Hy sal nie in die land van Egipte terugkeer nie, maar die Assiriër sal sy koning wees, omdat hulle geweier het om terug te keer.

And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour [them], because of their own counsels.
En die swaard sal in sy stede rondgaan, en sy takke verteer, en verslind, vanweë hulle eie raadslae.

And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt [him].
En my volk is geneig om van My af terug te val: alhoewel hulle hulle tot die Allerhoogste geroep het, sou niemand hulle enigsins verhoog nie.

How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.
Hoe sal ek jou oorgee, Efraim? hoe sal ek jou oorgee, Israel? hoe sal ek jou soos Adma maak? hoe sal ek jou soos Seboim stel? my hart is in My omgekeer, my berou is saam ontsteek.

I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I [am] God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
Ek sal nie die grimmigheid van my toorn uitvoer nie, ek sal nie terugkeer om Efraim te vernietig nie: want ek is God, en nie mens nie; die Heilige in die midde van jou: en ek sal nie in die stad inkom nie.

They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
Hulle sal agter die HERE aangaan: Hy sal brul soos ‚'n leeu: wanneer Hy sal brul, dan sal die kinders bewend van die weste af kom.

They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.
Hulle sal bewend kom soos ’n voël uit Egipte, en soos ’n duif uit die land van Assirië: en ek sal hulle in hulle huise laat woon, sê die HERE.

Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.
Efraim omring My met leuens, en die huis van Israel met bedrog: maar Juda heers nog met God, en is getrou met die heiliges.
