1
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Daarom, die beginsels van die leer van Christus verlatende, laat ons voortgaan tot volmaaktheid; nie weer die fondament lê van bekering van dooie werke, en van geloof tot God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Van die leer van doop, en van oplegging van hande, en van opstanding van die dooies, en van ewige oordeel.
3
And this will we do, if God permit.
En dit sal ons doen, as God dit toelaat.
4
For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Want dit is onmoontlik vir dié wat eenmaal verlig is, en die hemelse gawe geproe het, en deelgenote van die Heilige Gees gemaak is,
5
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
En die goeie woord van God geproe het, en die kragte van die wêreld wat kom,
6
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.
As hulle afvallig word, om hulle weer tot bekering te vernuwe; aangesien hulle die Seun van God weer vir hulleself kruisig, en Hom openlik tot skande maak.

For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
Want die aarde wat die reën drink wat dikwels daarop val, en kruid voortbring wat nuttig is vir hulle deur wie dit bewerk word, ontvang seëning van God:

But that which beareth thorns and briers [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.
Maar dié wat dorings en distels voortbring, is verwerp, en naby die vervloeking; wie se einde is om verbrand te word.
9
But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
Maar, geliefdes, ons is oortuig van beter dinge aangaande julle, en dinge wat die heil vergesel, alhoewel ons so spreek.
10
For God [is] not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
Want God is nie onregverdig om julle werk te vergeet, en die arbeid van die liefde wat julle bewys het tot sy Naam, in dat julle die heiliges bedien het, en nog bedien nie.

And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
En ons begeer dat elkeen van julle dieselfde ywer toon tot die volle sekerheid van die hoop tot die einde toe:
12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Dat julle nie traag word nie, maar navolgers van hulle wat deur geloof en geduld die beloftes beërwe.

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Want toe God aan Abraham die belofte gemaak het, omdat Hy by niemand groter kon sweer nie, het Hy by Homself gesweer,
14
Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Sê, Voorwaar seënende sal ek jou seën, en vermenigvuldigende sal ek jou vermenigvuldig.
15
And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
En so, nadat hy geduldig gewag het, het hy die belofte verkry.
16
For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation [is] to them an end of all strife.
Want die mense sweer waarlik by die grotere: en ‚'n eed tot bevestiging is vir hulle ‚'n einde van alle twis.
17
Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath:
Waarin God, willende meer oorvloedig die onveranderlikheid van sy raad aan die erfgename van die belofte toon, dit met ‚'n eed bevestig het:
18
That by two immutable things, in which [it was] impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Dat deur twee onveranderlike dinge, waarin dit onmoontlik was vir God om te lieg, ons ’n sterk troos sou hê, wat ons toevlug geneem het om die hoop vas te gryp wat voor ons gestel is:

Which [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Wat ons het as ‚'n anker van die siel, beide seker en vast, en wat binne die voorhangsel ingaan;
20
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, [even] Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Waar die voorloper vir ons ingegaan het, selfs Jesus, ’n hoëpriester geword tot in ewigheid na die orde van Melgisédek.
