And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

En Josef het op sy vader se aangesig geval, en oor hom gehuil, en hom gesoen.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

En Josef het sy dienaars, die dokters, beveel om sy vader te balsem: en die dokters het Israel gebalsem.

And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

En veertig dae is vir hom vervul; want so word die dae van dié wat gebalsem word, vervul: en die Egiptenaars het sewentig dae oor hom getreur.

And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

En toe die dae van sy treur verby was, het Josef tot die huis van Farao gespreek, en gesê, As ek nou genade in julle oë gevind het, spreek tog in die ore van Farao, en sê,

My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

My vader het my laat sweer, en gesê, Kyk, ek sterwe: in my graf wat ek vir my in die land Kanaän gegrawe het, daar moet jy my begrawe. Nou dan, laat my tog optrek, en my vader begrawe, en ek sal terugkom.

And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

En Farao het gesê, Trek op, en begrawe jou vader, soos hy jou laat sweer het.

And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

En Josef het opgetrek om sy vader te begrawe: en saam met hom het opgetrek al die dienaars van Farao, die ouderlinge van sy huis, en al die ouderlinge van die land Egipte,

And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

En die hele huis van Josef, en sy broers, en sy vader se huis: net hulle kinders, en hulle kleinvee, en hulle beeste, het hulle in die land Gosen agtergelaat.

And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

En daar het saam met hom opgetrek beide waens en ruiters: en dit was ’n baie groot leërkamp.

And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which [is] beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

En hulle het by die dorsvloer van Atad gekom, wat oorkant die Jordaan is, en daar het hulle ’n groot en baie smartlike rouklag gehou: en hy het sewe dae rouklag oor sy vader gehou.

And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This [is] a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which [is] beyond Jordan.

En toe die inwoners van die land, die Kanaäniete, die rouklag by die dorsvloer van Atad sien, het hulle gesê, Dit is ’n smartlike rouklag vir die Egiptenaars: daarom is die naam daarvan Abel-Misraim genoem, wat oorkant die Jordaan is.

And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

En sy seuns het so aan hom gedoen soos hy hulle beveel het:

For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

Want sy seuns het hom na die land Kanaän gebring, en hom begrawe in die spelonk van die veld van Magpela, wat Abraham gekoop het met die veld tot ’n besitting van ’n begraafplaas van Efron die Hetiet, voor Mamre.

And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

En Josef het na Egipte teruggekeer, hy, en sy broers, en almal wat saam met hom opgetrek het om sy vader te begrawe, nadat hy sy vader begrawe het.

15

And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

En toe Josef se broers sien dat hulle vader dood is, het hulle gesê, Miskien sal Josef ons haat, en ons sekerlik vergelde al die kwaad wat ons aan hom gedoen het.

And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

En hulle het ’n boodskap na Josef gestuur, en gesê, Jou vader het beveel voor sy dood, en gesê,

So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

So moet julle tot Josef sê, Vergeef tog nou die oortreding van jou broers, en hulle sonde; want hulle het jou kwaad aangedoen: en nou, vergeef tog die oortreding van die dienaars van die God van jou vader. En Josef het gehuil toe hulle tot hom gespreek het.

And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we [be] thy servants.

En sy broers het ook gegaan en voor hom neergeval; en hulle het gesê, Kyk, ons is jou dienaars.

19

And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for [am] I in the place of God?

En Josef het tot hulle gesê, Vrees nie: want is ek in die plek van God?

20

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; [but] God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as [it is] this day, to save much people alive.

Maar wat julle betref, julle het kwaad teen my bedink; maar God het dit ten goede bedink, om te doen soos dit vandag is, om baie mense in die lewe te behou.

21

Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Nou dan, vrees nie: ek sal julle en julle kinders onderhou. En hy het hulle getroos, en tot hulle hart gespreek.

22

And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

En Josef het in Egipte gewoon, hy, en sy vader se huis: en Josef het honderd en tien jaar gelewe.

23

And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third [generation]: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

En Josef het Efraim se kinders van die derde geslag gesien: die kinders van Magir, die seun van Manasse, is ook op Josef se knieë gebore.

24

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

En Josef het tot sy broers gesê, Ek sterwe: en God sal julle sekerlik besoek, en julle uit hierdie land opbring na die land wat Hy aan Abraham, aan Isak, en aan Jakob met ’n eed beloof het.

And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

En Josef het die seuns van Israel laat sweer, en gesê, God sal julle sekerlik besoek, en julle moet my beendere van hier af opbring.

So Joseph died, [being] an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

So het Josef gesterwe, honderd en tien jaar oud: en hulle het hom gebalsem, en hy is in ’n kis in Egipte gelê.
