And it came to pass after these things, that [one] told Joseph, Behold, thy father [is] sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
En dit het gebeur ná hierdie dinge, dat iemand tot Josef gesê het, Kyk, jou vader is siek: en hy het sy twee seuns saam met hom geneem, Manasse en Efraim.

And [one] told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
En iemand het Jakob vertel, en gesê, Kyk, jou seun Josef kom na jou: en Israel het homself versterk, en op die bed gaan sit.

And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
En Jakob het tot Josef gesê, God die Almagtige het aan my verskyn by Lus in die land Kanaän, en my geseën,
4
And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee [for] an everlasting possession.
En tot my gesê, Kyk, Ek sal jou vrugbaar maak, en jou vermeerder, en jou tot ’n menigte volke maak; en Ek sal hierdie land aan jou saad ná jou gee tot ’n ewige besitting.

And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, [are] mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
En nou is jou twee seuns, Efraim en Manasse, wat vir jou in die land Egipte gebore is voordat ek by jou in Egipte gekom het, myne; soos Ruben en Simeon, sal hulle myne wees.

And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, [and] shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
En jou nageslag, wat jy ná hulle verwek, sal joune wees, en sal na die naam van hulle broers genoem word in hulle erfenis.

And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet [there was] but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same [is] Bethlehem.
En wat my betref, toe ek uit Paddan gekom het, is Ragel by my gesterwe in die land Kanaän op die pad, toe daar nog ’n klein stukkie pad was om by Efrat te kom: en ek het haar daar begrawe op die pad na Efrat; dit is Betlehem.

And Israel beheld Joseph’s sons, and said, Who [are] these?
En Israel het die seuns van Josef gesien, en gesê, Wie is hierdie?

And Joseph said unto his father, They [are] my sons, whom God hath given me in this [place]. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.
En Josef het tot sy vader gesê, Hulle is my seuns, wat God my hier gegee het. En hy het gesê, Bring hulle tog na my, en ek sal hulle seën.

Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, [so that] he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.
Nou was die oë van Israel dof van ouderdom, sodat hy nie kon sien nie. En hy het hulle nader gebring by hom; en hy het hulle gesoen, en hulle omhels.

And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.
En Israel het tot Josef gesê, Ek het nie gedink om jou aangesig te sien nie: en kyk, God het my ook jou saad laat sien.
12
And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.
En Josef het hulle van by sy knieë weggebring, en homself met sy aangesig na die aarde gebuig.
13
And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought [them] near unto him.
En Josef het hulle altwee geneem, Efraim in sy regterhand na Israel se linkerhand, en Manasse in sy linkerhand na Israel se regterhand, en hulle nader by hom gebring.

And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid [it] upon Ephraim’s head, who [was] the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh [was] the firstborn.
En Israel het sy regterhand uitgesteek, en dit op die hoof van Efraim gelê, wat die jongste was, en sy linkerhand op die hoof van Manasse, en sy hande oorkruis gelê; want Manasse was die eersgeborene.

And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
En hy het Josef geseën, en gesê, Die God voor wie se aangesig my vaders Abraham en Isak gewandel het, die God wat my gevoed het van my geboorte af tot op hierdie dag,

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.
Die Engel wat my verlos het van alle kwaad, seën die seuns; en laat my naam op hulle genoem word, en die naam van my vaders Abraham en Isak; en laat hulle vermeerder tot ’n menigte in die midde van die aarde.

And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head.
En toe Josef sien dat sy vader sy regterhand op die hoof van Efraim gelê het, was dit sleg in sy oë: en hy het sy vader se hand vasgehou, om dit van Efraim se hoof af na Manasse se hoof te verskuif.

And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this [is] the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
En Josef het tot sy vader gesê, Nie so, my vader nie: want hierdie is die eersgeborene; sit jou regterhand op sy hoof.
19
And his father refused, and said, I know [it], my son, I know [it]: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.
En sy vader het geweier, en gesê, Ek weet dit, my seun, ek weet dit: hy sal ook ’n volk word, en hy sal ook groot word: maar waarlik sy jonger broer sal groter as hy wees, en sy saad sal ’n menigte nasies word.

And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.
En hy het hulle daardie dag geseën, en gesê, In jou sal Israel seën, en sê, God maak jou soos Efraim en soos Manasse: en hy het Efraim voor Manasse gestel.
21
And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.
En Israel het tot Josef gesê, Kyk, ek sterwe: maar God sal met julle wees, en julle terugbring na die land van julle vaders.
22
Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
Boonop het ek jou een deel meer as jou broers gegee, wat ek met my swaard en met my boog uit die hand van die Amoriete geneem het.
