And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men’s sacks [with] food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth.
En hy het die owerste van sy huis beveel, en gesê, Vul die manne se sakke met voedsel, soveel as hulle kan dra, en sit elke man se geld in die mond van sy sak.

And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.
En sit my beker, die silwerbeker, in die mond van die jongste se sak, en sy koringgeld. En hy het gedoen volgens die woord wat Josef gespreek het.

As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.
Sodra die môre lig was, is die manne weggestuur, hulle en hulle esels.

[And] when they were gone out of the city, [and] not [yet] far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
En toe hulle uit die stad uitgetrek het, en nog nie ver was nie, het Josef tot die owerste van sy huis gesê, Maak jou gereed, agtervolg die manne; en wanneer jy hulle inhaal, sê tot hulle, Waarom het julle kwaad vir goed vergolde?

[Is] not this [it] in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.
Is dit nie hierdie waarin my heer drink, en waarmee hy waarlik waarneem nie? julle het sleg gedoen in wat julle gedoen het.

And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these same words.
En hy het hulle ingehaal, en hierdie woorde tot hulle gespreek.

And they said unto him, Wherefore saith my lord these words? God forbid that thy servants should do according to this thing:
En hulle het tot hom gesê, Waarom spreek my heer hierdie woorde? dit is verre van jou dienaars om so ’n ding te doen.
8
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord’s house silver or gold?
Kyk, die geld wat ons in ons sakke gevind het, het ons na jou teruggebring uit die land Kanaän: hoe sou ons dan silwer of goud uit jou heer se huis steel?

With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, both let him die, and we also will be my lord’s bondmen.
By wie van jou dienaars dit gevind word, laat hom sterwe, en ons sal ook my heer se slawe wees.
10
And he said, Now also [let] it [be] according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my servant; and ye shall be blameless.
En hy het gesê, Nou dan, laat dit wees volgens julle woorde: by wie dit gevind word, sal my slaaf wees; en julle sal onskuldig wees.

Then they speedily took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.
Toe het hulle haastig elkeen sy sak op die grond neergesit, en elkeen sy sak oopgemaak.
12
And he searched, [and] began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
En hy het gesoek, by die oudste begin, en by die jongste geëindig: en die beker is in Benjamin se sak gevind.
13
Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city.
Toe het hulle hulle klere geskeur, en elkeen sy esel gelaai, en na die stad teruggekeer.
14
And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house; for he [was] yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.
En Juda en sy broers het in Josef se huis gekom; want hy was nog daar: en hulle het voor hom op die grond neergeval.
15
And Joseph said unto them, What deed [is] this that ye have done? wot ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?
En Josef het tot hulle gesê, Wat is dit wat julle gedoen het? weet julle nie dat so ’n man soos ek waarlik waarneem nie?

And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we [are] my lord’s servants, both we, and [he] also with whom the cup is found.
En Juda het gesê, Wat sal ons tot my heer sê? wat sal ons spreek? of hoe sal ons onsself regverdig? God het die ongeregtigheid van jou dienaars gevind: kyk, ons is my heer se slawe, ons sowel as hy by wie die beker gevind is.

And he said, God forbid that I should do so: [but] the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant; and as for you, get you up in peace unto your father.
En hy het gesê, Dit is verre van my om so te doen: die man by wie die beker gevind is, hy sal my slaaf wees; en wat julle betref, gaan op in vrede na julle vader.

Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou [art] even as Pharaoh.
Toe het Juda nader gekom tot hom, en gesê, Ag, my heer, laat u dienaar tog ’n woord in my heer se ore spreek, en laat u toorn nie teen u dienaar aangesteek word nie: want jy is soos Farao.

My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?
My heer het sy dienaars gevra, en gesê, Het julle ’n vader, of ’n broer?
20
And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.
En ons het tot my heer gesê, Ons het ’n vader, ’n ou man, en ’n kind van sy ouderdom, ’n jongste; en sy broer is dood, en hy alleen is van sy moeder oorgebly, en sy vader het hom lief.
21
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him.
En jy het tot jou dienaars gesê, Bring hom af na my, dat ek my oë op hom mag sit.
22
And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for [if] he should leave his father, [his father] would die.
En ons het tot my heer gesê, Die seun kan sy vader nie verlaat nie: want as hy sy vader verlaat, sal hy sterwe.
23
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.
En jy het tot jou dienaars gesê, As julle jongste broer nie saam met julle afkom nie, sal julle my aangesig nie weer sien nie.
24
And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.
En dit het gebeur toe ons opgegaan het na jou dienaar my vader, dat ons hom die woorde van my heer vertel het.
25
And our father said, Go again, [and] buy us a little food.
En ons vader het gesê, Gaan weer, koop vir ons ’n bietjie voedsel.
26
And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man’s face, except our youngest brother [be] with us.
En ons het gesê, Ons kan nie afgaan nie: as ons jongste broer by ons is, dan sal ons afgaan: want ons kan die man se aangesig nie sien nie, as ons jongste broer nie by ons is nie.

And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two [sons]:
En jou dienaar my vader het tot ons gesê, Julle weet dat my vrou vir my twee gebaar het:
28
And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since:
En die een het van my uitgegaan, en ek het gesê, Hy is sekerlik verskeur; en ek het hom tot nou toe nie gesien nie:
29
And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
En as julle hierdie een ook van my af wegneem, en hom ’n ongeluk oorkom, dan sal julle my grys hare met smart in die doderyk laat afdaal.
30
Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad [be] not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad’s life;
Nou dan, wanneer ek by jou dienaar my vader kom, en die seun is nie by ons nie; aangesien sy siel aan die seun se siel gebind is;
31
It shall come to pass, when he seeth that the lad [is] not [with us], that he will die: and thy servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.
Sal dit gebeur, wanneer hy sien dat die seun daar nie is nie, dat hy sterwe: en jou dienaars sal die grys hare van jou dienaar ons vader met smart in die doderyk laat afdaal.
32
For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.
Want jou dienaar het borg geword vir die seun by my vader, en gesê, As ek hom nie na jou bring nie, dan sal ek al die dae skuldig wees teenoor my vader.
33
Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.
Laat dan nou u dienaar tog in die plek van die seun as slaaf vir my heer bly; en laat die seun saam met sy broers optrek.
34
For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad [be] not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.
Want hoe sal ek optrek na my vader, as die seun nie by my is nie? dat ek nie die onheil sien wat my vader sal oorkom nie.
