And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that [was] our father’s; and of [that] which [was] our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.
En hy het die woorde van Laban se seuns gehoor, wat sê, Jakob het alles geneem wat aan ons vader behoort het; en van dit wat aan ons vader behoort het, het hy al hierdie heerlikheid verkry.

And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it [was] not toward him as before.
En Jakob het die aangesig van Laban gesien, en kyk, dit was nie teenoor hom soos gister en eergister nie.
3
And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
En die HERE het tot Jakob gesê, Keer terug na die land van jou vaders, en na jou maagskap; en Ek sal met jou wees.
4
And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,
En Jakob het gestuur en Ragel en Lea na die veld na sy kudde geroep,
5
And said unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it [is] not toward me as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.
En tot hulle gesê, Ek sien julle vader se aangesig, dat dit nie teenoor my is soos gister en eergister nie; maar die God van my vader was by my.
6
And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
En julle weet dat ek met al my krag julle vader gedien het.
7
And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.
En julle vader het my bedrieg, en my loon tien maal verander; maar God het hom nie toegelaat om my kwaad te doen nie.
8
If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.
As hy so gesê het, Die gespikkeldes sal jou loon wees; dan het al die kuddes gespikkeldes gebaar: en as hy so gesê het, Die gestreepte sal jou loon wees; dan het al die kuddes gestreepte gebaar.

Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given [them] to me.
So het God die vee van julle vader weggeneem, en dit aan my gegee.
10
And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle [were] ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.
En dit het gebeur in die tyd toe die kudde ontvang het, dat ek my oë opgeslaan het, en in ’n droom gesien het, en kyk, die ramme wat op die kuddes geklim het, was gestreep, gespikkeld en bont.

And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, [saying], Jacob: And I said, Here [am] I.
En die engel van God het tot my in die droom gesê, Jakob: En ek het gesê, Hier is ek.
12
And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle [are] ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee.
En hy het gesê, Slaan tog jou oë op, en kyk, al die ramme wat op die kuddes klim, is gestreep, gespikkeld en bont: want ek het alles gesien wat Laban jou aandoen.
13
I [am] the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, [and] where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred.
Ek is die God van Bet-el, waar jy die pilaar gesalf het, en waar jy aan My ’n gelofte gedoen het: staan nou op, gaan uit hierdie land, en keer terug na die land van jou maagskap.

And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, [Is there] yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?
En Ragel en Lea het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Is daar vir ons nog ’n deel of erfenis in ons vader se huis?
15
Are we not counted of him strangers? for he hath sold us, and hath quite devoured also our money.
Is ons nie deur hom as vreemdelinge gereken nie? want hy het ons verkoop, en het ook ons geld heeltemal verteer.
16
For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that [is] ours, and our children’s: now then, whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
Want al die rykdom wat God van ons vader weggeneem het, dit is ons s’n, en ons kinders s’n: doen nou alles wat God jou gesê het.
17
Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;
Toe het Jakob opgestaan, en sy seuns en sy vroue op die kamele gesit;
18
And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattle of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, for to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.
En hy het al sy vee weggevoer, en al sy goed wat hy verkry het, die vee van sy besitting, wat hy in Paddan-Aram verkry het, om te gaan na Isak sy vader in die land Kanaän.

And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that [were] her father’s.
En Laban was gegaan om sy skape te skeer: en Ragel het die huisgode gesteel wat aan haar vader behoort het.
20
And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.
En Jakob het die hart van Laban die Arameër gesteel, deurdat hy hom nie vertel het dat hy vlug nie.
21
So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face [toward] the mount Gilead.
So het hy gevlug met alles wat aan hom behoort het; en hy het opgestaan, en die rivier oorgesteek, en sy aangesig gerig na die berg Gilead.
22
And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.
En op die derde dag is aan Laban vertel dat Jakob gevlug het.
23
And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.
En hy het sy broers saam met hom geneem, en hom agtervolg sewe dae se pad; en hy het hom ingehaal by die berg Gilead.
24
And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
En God het tot Laban die Arameër in ’n droom in die nag gekom, en tot hom gesê, Pas op dat jy met Jakob nie goed of kwaad praat nie.
25
Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.
Toe het Laban Jakob ingehaal. Nou het Jakob sy tent op die berg opgeslaan: en Laban het saam met sy broers sy tent opgeslaan op die berg Gilead.

And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives [taken] with the sword?
En Laban het tot Jakob gesê, Wat het jy gedoen, dat jy my hart gesteel het, en my dogters weggevoer het soos gevangenes met die swaard?
27
Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
Waarom het jy in die geheim gevlug, en my gesteel, en my nie vertel nie, dat ek jou met vreugde en met liedere, met trom en met harp kon wegstuur?
28
And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done foolishly in [so] doing.
En jy het my nie toegelaat om my seuns en my dogters te soen nie? nou het jy dwaas gehandel in so te doen.
29
It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spake unto me yesternight, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.
Dit is in die mag van my hand om julle kwaad te doen: maar die God van julle vader het gisteraand tot my gespreek, en gesê, Pas op dat jy met Jakob nie goed of kwaad praat nie.
30
And now, [though] thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore longedst after thy father’s house, [yet] wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?
En nou, al het jy weggegaan, omdat jy so baie verlang het na jou vader se huis, waarom het jy my gode gesteel?
31
And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Peradventure thou wouldest take by force thy daughters from me.
En Jakob het geantwoord en tot Laban gesê, Omdat ek bevrees was: want ek het gesê, Miskien sal jy jou dogters met geweld van my afneem.
32
With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what [is] thine with me, and take [it] to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.
By wie jy jou gode vind, laat hom nie lewe nie: ondersoek voor ons broers wat by my is, en neem dit vir jou. Want Jakob het nie geweet dat Ragel hulle gesteel het nie.

And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, and into Leah’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents; but he found [them] not. Then went he out of Leah’s tent, and entered into Rachel’s tent.
En Laban het in Jakob se tent gegaan, en in Lea se tent, en in die tente van die twee diensmaagde; maar hy het hulle nie gevind nie. Toe het hy uitgegaan uit Lea se tent, en in Ragel se tent gegaan.

Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found [them] not.
Nou het Ragel die huisgode geneem, en hulle in die kameelsaalsak gesit, en daarop gesit. En Laban het die hele tent deursoek, maar hulle nie gevind nie.
35
And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women [is] upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.
En sy het tot haar vader gesê, Laat dit nie kwaad wees in die oë van my heer dat ek nie voor jou kan opstaan nie; want die gewoonte van vroue is op my. En hy het gesoek, maar die huisgode nie gevind nie.
36
And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What [is] my trespass? what [is] my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?
En Jakob het toornig geword, en met Laban getwis: en Jakob het geantwoord en tot Laban gesê, Wat is my oortreding? wat is my sonde, dat jy my so vurig agtervolg het?
37
Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set [it] here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.
Noudat jy al my goed deursoek het, wat het jy gevind van al die huisraad van jou huis? sit dit hier voor my broers en jou broers, dat hulle tussen ons altwee mag oordeel.
38
This twenty years [have] I [been] with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.
Hierdie twintig jaar was ek by jou; jou ooie en jou bokooie het nie misgeboorte gehad nie, en die ramme van jou kudde het ek nie geëet nie.
39
That which was torn [of beasts] I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, [whether] stolen by day, or stolen by night.
Wat verskeur was, het ek nie na jou gebring nie; ek self het dit gedra; van my hand het jy dit geëis, of dit gesteel is by dag, of gesteel is by nag.
40
[Thus] I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.
So was ek; in die dag het die hitte my verteer, en die ryp by nag; en my slaap het van my oë gewyk.
41
Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
So was ek twintig jaar in jou huis; ek het jou veertien jaar gedien vir jou twee dogters, en ses jaar vir jou kudde: en jy het my loon tien maal verander.
42
Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked [thee] yesternight.
As die God van my vader, die God van Abraham, en die Vrees van Isak, nie by my was nie, sou jy my sekerlik nou leeg weggestuur het. God het my ellende en die arbeid van my hande gesien, en jou gisteraand bestraf.
43
And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, [These] daughters [are] my daughters, and [these] children [are] my children, and [these] cattle [are] my cattle, and all that thou seest [is] mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
En Laban het geantwoord en tot Jakob gesê, Hierdie dogters is my dogters, en hierdie kinders is my kinders, en hierdie kudde is my kudde, en alles wat jy sien is myne: en wat kan ek vandag aan hierdie my dogters doen, of aan hulle kinders wat hulle gebaar het?
44
Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.
Kom dan nou, laat ons ’n verbond maak, ek en jy; en laat dit ’n getuie wees tussen my en jou.
45
And Jacob took a stone, and set it up [for] a pillar.
En Jakob het ’n klip geneem, en dit as ’n pilaar opgerig.
46
And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.
En Jakob het tot sy broers gesê, Maak klippe bymekaar; en hulle het klippe geneem, en ’n hoop gemaak: en hulle het daar by die hoop geëet.
47
And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.
En Laban het dit Jegar-Sahaduta genoem: maar Jakob het dit Galed genoem.
48
And Laban said, This heap [is] a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;
En Laban het gesê, Hierdie hoop is vandag ’n getuie tussen my en jou. Daarom is die naam daarvan Galed genoem;
49
And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
En Mispa; want hy het gesê, Die HERE hou wag tussen my en jou, wanneer ons mekaar nie sien nie.
50
If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take [other] wives beside my daughters, no man [is] with us; see, God [is] witness betwixt me and thee.
As jy my dogters verdruk, of as jy ander vroue by my dogters neem, is daar niemand by ons nie; sien, God is getuie tussen my en jou.
51
And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold [this] pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee;
En Laban het tot Jakob gesê, Kyk na hierdie hoop, en kyk na die pilaar, wat ek tussen my en jou opgerig het;
52
This heap [be] witness, and [this] pillar [be] witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.
Hierdie hoop is ’n getuie, en die pilaar is ’n getuie, dat ek nie by hierdie hoop verby sal gaan na jou toe nie, en dat jy nie by hierdie hoop en hierdie pilaar verby sal gaan na my toe nie, tot kwaad.

The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.
Die God van Abraham, en die God van Nahor, die God van hulle vader, oordeel tussen ons. En Jakob het gesweer by die Vrees van sy vader Isak.
54
Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.
Toe het Jakob ’n offer op die berg geoffer, en sy broers geroep om brood te eet: en hulle het brood geëet, en die nag op die berg deurgebring.
55
And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
En vroeg in die môre het Laban opgestaan, en sy seuns en sy dogters gesoen, en hulle geseën: en Laban het weggegaan, en teruggekeer na sy plek.
