And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
En daar was ’n hongersnood in die land, behalwe die eerste hongersnood wat in die dae van Abraham was. En Isak het na Abiméleg gegaan, koning van die Filistyne, na Gerar.

And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
En die HERE het aan hom verskyn, en gesê, Moenie afgaan na Egipte nie; woon in die land wat Ek jou sal sê:
3
Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;
Vertoef as vreemdeling in hierdie land, en Ek sal met jou wees, en jou seën; want aan jou, en aan jou saad, sal Ek al hierdie lande gee, en Ek sal die eed bevestig wat Ek vir Abraham jou vader gesweer het;

And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
En Ek sal jou saad vermeerder soos die sterre van die hemel, en sal aan jou saad al hierdie lande gee; en in jou saad sal al die nasies van die aarde geseën word;

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
Omdat Abraham na my stem geluister het, en my bevel, my gebooie, my insettinge, en my wette bewaar het.

And Isaac dwelt in Gerar:
En Isak het in Gerar gewoon.

And the men of the place asked [him] of his wife; and he said, She [is] my sister: for he feared to say, [She is] my wife; lest, [said he], the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she [was] fair to look upon.
En die manne van die plek het na sy vrou gevra; en hy het gesê, Sy is my suster: want hy was bevrees om te sê, Sy is my vrou; dat die manne van die plek my nie doodmaak om Rebekka nie; want sy was mooi om na te kyk.

And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac [was] sporting with Rebekah his wife.
En dit het gebeur, toe hy daar lank vertoef het, dat Abiméleg, koning van die Filistyne, deur die venster uitgekyk het, en gesien het, en kyk, Isak speel met Rebekka sy vrou.

And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she [is] thy wife: and how saidst thou, She [is] my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
En Abiméleg het Isak geroep, en gesê, Kyk, sy is sekerlik jou vrou: en hoe het jy gesê, Sy is my suster? En Isak het tot hom gesê, Omdat ek gesê het, Dat ek nie om haar ontwil sterwe nie.

And Abimelech said, What [is] this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.
En Abiméleg het gesê, Wat is dit wat jy aan ons gedoen het? een van die volk het byna by jou vrou gelê, en jy sou skuld oor ons gebring het.

And Abimelech charged all [his] people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.
En Abiméleg het die hele volk beveel, en gesê, Wie hierdie man of sy vrou aanraak, sal sekerlik gedood word.

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
Toe het Isak in daardie land gesaai, en in dieselfde jaar honderdvoudig gevind: en die HERE het hom geseën.

And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
En die man het groot geword, en hy het voortgegaan, en al groter geword, totdat hy baie groot geword het:
14
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
Want hy het besittings van kleinvee, en besittings van beeste, en ‚'n groot huisgesin gehad: en die Filistyne het hom beny.
15
For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.
Want al die putte wat sy vader se diensknegte in die dae van Abraham sy vader gegrawe het, het die Filistyne toegestop, en met grond gevul.
16
And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.
En Abiméleg het tot Isak gesê, Gaan weg van ons af; want jy is baie magtiger as ons.

And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
En Isak het daarvandaan weggegaan, en sy tent opgeslaan in die vallei van Gerar, en daar gewoon.

And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
En Isak het die waterputte weer oopgegrawe wat hulle in die dae van Abraham sy vader gegrawe het; want die Filistyne het hulle toegestop ná die dood van Abraham: en hy het hulle name genoem na die name wat sy vader hulle genoem het.

And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
En Isak se diensknegte het in die vallei gegrawe, en daar ‚'n put van lewende water gevind.

And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac’s herdmen, saying, The water [is] ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
En die herders van Gerar het getwis met Isak se herders, en gesê, Die water is ons s’n: en hy het die naam van die put Esek genoem; omdat hulle met hom getwis het.

And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
En hulle het ‚'n ander put gegrawe, en daaroor getwis: en hy het die naam daarvan Sitna genoem.
22
And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
En hy het van daar verhuis, en ’n ander put gegrawe; en daaroor het hulle nie getwis nie: en hy het die naam daarvan Rehobot genoem; en hy het gesê, Want nou het die HERE vir ons ruimte gemaak, en ons sal vrugbaar wees in die land.

And he went up from thence to Beersheba.
En hy het van daar opgetrek na Berseba.

And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I [am] the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I [am] with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
En die HERE het in daardie nag aan hom verskyn, en gesê, Ek is die God van Abraham jou vader: vrees nie, want Ek is met jou, en sal jou seën, en jou saad vermeerder om my dienaar Abraham se ontwil.

And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.
En hy het daar ‚'n altaar gebou, en die Naam van die HERE aangeroep, en sy tent daar opgeslaan: en daar het Isak se diensknegte ‚'n put gegrawe.

Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
Toe het Abiméleg na hom gegaan van Gerar af, en Ahussat een van sy vriende, en Figol die owerste van sy leër.
27
And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you?
En Isak het tot hulle gesê, Waarom kom julle na my, aangesien julle my haat, en my van julle af weggestuur het?

And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, [even] betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;
En hulle het gesê, Ons het duidelik gesien dat die HERE met jou is: en ons het gesê, Laat daar nou ’n eed wees tussen ons, tussen ons en jou, en laat ons ’n verbond met jou maak;

That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou [art] now the blessed of the LORD.
Dat jy ons geen kwaad sal doen nie, soos ons jou nie aangeraak het nie, en soos ons jou niks as goed gedoen het nie, en jou in vrede weggestuur het: jy is nou die geseënde van die HERE.

And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink.
En hy het vir hulle ’n fees gemaak, en hulle het geëet en gedrink.

And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
En hulle het vroeg in die môre opgestaan, en die een die ander gesweer: en Isak het hulle weggestuur, en hulle het van hom af in vrede weggegaan.

And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water.
En dit het gebeur dieselfde dag, dat Isak se diensknegte gekom het, en hom van die put vertel het wat hulle gegrawe het, en tot hom gesê het, Ons het water gevind.

And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city [is] Beersheba unto this day.
En hy het dit Seba genoem: daarom is die naam van die stad Berseba tot vandag toe.

And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
En Esau was veertig jaar oud toe hy Judit geneem het tot vrou, die dogter van Beëri die Hetiet, en Basemat, die dogter van Elon die Hetiet:

Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.
Wat ‚'n bitterheid van gees was vir Isak en vir Rebekka.
