Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name [was] Hagar.
Nou het Sarai, Abram se vrou, hom geen kinders gebaar nie: en sy het ‚'n diensmaagd gehad, ‚'n Egiptiese, wie se naam Hagar was.

And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
En Sarai het tot Abram gesê, Kyk nou, die HERE het my weerhou om te baar: gaan tog in tot my diensmaagd; dit mag wees dat ek kinders deur haar verkry. En Abram het na die stem van Sarai geluister.

And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
En Sarai, Abram se vrou, het Hagar haar diensmaagd, die Egiptiese, geneem, nadat Abram tien jaar in die land Kanaän gewoon het, en haar aan haar man Abram gegee om sy vrou te wees.

And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
En hy het in tot Hagar gegaan, en sy het ontvang: en toe sy sien dat sy ontvang het, is haar meesteres in haar oë verag.

And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong [be] upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.
En Sarai het tot Abram gesê, My onreg is op jou: ek het my diensmaagd in jou boesem gegee; en toe sy sien dat sy ontvang het, is ek in haar oë verag: die HERE oordeel tussen my en jou.

But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid [is] in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
Maar Abram het tot Sarai gesê, Kyk, jou diensmaagd is in jou hand; doen met haar soos dit jou behaag. En toe Sarai hard met haar gehandel het, het sy van haar aangesig gevlug.

And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
En die engel van die HERE het haar gevind by ‚'n fontein van water in die wildernis, by die fontein op die pad na Sur.

And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
En hy het gesê, Hagar, Sarai se diensmaagd, vanwaar kom jy? en waarheen sal jy gaan? En sy het gesê, Ek vlug van die aangesig van my meesteres Sarai.

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
En die engel van die HERE het tot haar gesê, Keer terug na jou meesteres, en onderwerp jou onder haar hande.

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
En die engel van die HERE het tot haar gesê, Ek sal jou saad grootliks vermenigvuldig, dat dit nie getel kan word vanweë die menigte nie.

And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou [art] with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
En die engel van die HERE het tot haar gesê, Kyk, jy is swanger, en jy sal ’n seun baar, en jy moet sy naam Ismael noem; omdat die HERE jou verdrukking gehoor het.

And he will be a wild man; his hand [will be] against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
En hy sal ‚'n wilde man wees; sy hand sal teen elke man wees, en elke man se hand teen hom; en hy sal woon in die teenwoordigheid van al sy broers.

And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
En sy het die Naam van die HERE genoem wat tot haar gespreek het, U is ’n God wat my sien: want sy het gesê, Het ek hier ook gesien na Hom wat my sien?

Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, [it is] between Kadesh and Bered.
Daarom is die put Beer-Lagaï-Roï genoem; kyk, dit is tussen Kades en Bered.

And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
En Hagar het vir Abram ‚'n seun gebaar: en Abram het die naam van sy seun, wat Hagar gebaar het, Ismael genoem.
16
And Abram [was] fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
En Abram was ses en tagtig jaar oud, toe Hagar Ismael vir Abram gebaar het.
