When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, [and] that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
Toe Jetro, die priester van Midian, Moses se skoonvader, gehoor het van alles wat God aan Moses en aan sy volk Israel gedoen het, en dat die HERE Israel uit Egipte uitgelei het;

Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her back,
Toe het Jetro, Moses se skoonvader, Zippora, Moses se vrou, geneem, nadat hy haar weggestuur het,
3
And her two sons; of which the name of the one [was] Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
En haar twee seuns; van wie die naam van die een Gersom was; want hy het gesê, Ek was ’n vreemdeling in ’n vreemde land:
4
And the name of the other [was] Eliezer; for the God of my father, [said he, was] mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
En die naam van die ander was Eliëser; want die God van my vader, het hy gesê, was my hulp, en het my gered van die swaard van Farao:

And Jethro, Moses’ father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
En Jetro, Moses se skoonvader, het met sy seuns en sy vrou by Moses gekom in die wildernis, waar hy by die berg van God kamp opgeslaan het:

And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
En hy het tot Moses gesê, Ek, jou skoonvader Jetro, het by jou gekom, en jou vrou, en haar twee seuns saam met haar.

And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of [their] welfare; and they came into the tent.
En Moses het uitgegaan om sy skoonvader tegemoet te gaan, en hom gebuig, en hom gesoen; en hulle het mekaar gevra na hulle welstand; en hulle het in die tent ingegaan.

And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, [and] all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and [how] the LORD delivered them.
En Moses het aan sy skoonvader alles vertel wat die HERE aan Farao en aan die Egiptenaars gedoen het om Israel se ontwil, en al die moeilikheid wat hulle op die pad oorgekom het, en hoe die HERE hulle gered het.

And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
En Jetro was bly oor al die goedheid wat die HERE aan Israel gedoen het, in dié dat Hy hulle uit die hand van die Egiptenaars gered het.
10
And Jethro said, Blessed [be] the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
En Jetro het gesê, Geseënd is die HERE, wat julle gered het uit die hand van die Egiptenaars, en uit die hand van Farao, wat die volk gered het van onder die hand van die Egiptenaars.

Now I know that the LORD [is] greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly [he was] above them.
Nou weet ek dat die HERE groter is as al die gode: want in die saak waarin hulle hoogmoedig gehandel het, was Hy bo hulle.

And Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father in law before God.
En Jetro, Moses se skoonvader, het ’n brandoffer en offers vir God geneem: en Aäron het gekom, en al die ouderlinge van Israel, om brood te eet met Moses se skoonvader voor God.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
En dit het gebeur die volgende dag, dat Moses gesit het om die volk te oordeel: en die volk het van die môre tot die aand voor Moses gestaan.
14
And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What [is] this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
En toe Moses se skoonvader sien alles wat hy aan die volk doen, het hy gesê, Wat is hierdie ding wat jy aan die volk doen? waarom sit jy self alleen, en al die volk staan voor jou van die môre tot die aand?

And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:
En Moses het tot sy skoonvader gesê, Omdat die volk na my kom om God te raadpleeg:
16
When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make [them] know the statutes of God, and his laws.
Wanneer hulle ‚'n saak het, kom hulle na my; en ek oordeel tussen die een en die ander, en ek maak die insettinge van God en sy wette aan hulle bekend.
17
And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest [is] not good.
En Moses se skoonvader het tot hom gesê, Die ding wat jy doen, is nie goed nie.
18
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that [is] with thee: for this thing [is] too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
Jy sal sekerlik uitput, beide jy, en hierdie volk wat by jou is: want hierdie saak is te swaar vir jou; jy is nie in staat om dit alleen te doen nie.

Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
Luister nou na my stem, ek sal jou raad gee, en God sal met jou wees: Wees jy vir die volk teenoor God, dat jy die sake na God mag bring:
20
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
En jy moet hulle die insettinge en die wette leer, en hulle die weg wys waarop hulle moet wandel, en die werk wat hulle moet doen.
21
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place [such] over them, [to be] rulers of thousands, [and] rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Boonop moet jy uit al die volk bekwame manne uitsien, wat God vrees, manne van waarheid, wat winsbejag haat; en stel hulle oor hulle as owerstes van duisende, owerstes van honderde, owerstes van vyftigs, en owerstes van tienen:

And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, [that] every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear [the burden] with thee.
En laat hulle die volk te alle tye oordeel: en dit sal wees, dat hulle elke groot saak na jou bring, maar elke klein saak self oordeel: so sal dit vir jou ligter wees, en hulle sal die las saam met jou dra.
23
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee [so], then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
As jy hierdie ding doen, en God jou so beveel, dan sal jy in staat wees om te bestaan, en ook al hierdie volk sal in vrede na sy plek gaan.
24
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
So het Moses na die stem van sy skoonvader geluister, en alles gedoen wat hy gesê het.
25
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
En Moses het bekwame manne uit die hele Israel gekies, en hulle hoofde gemaak oor die volk, owerstes van duisende, owerstes van honderde, owerstes van vyftigs, en owerstes van tienen.

And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
En hulle het die volk te alle tye geoordeel: die moeilike sake het hulle na Moses gebring, maar elke klein saak het hulle self geoordeel.
27
And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
En Moses het sy skoonvader laat gaan; en hy het na sy eie land gegaan.
