Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Kinders, wees gehoorsaam aan julle ouers in die Here: want dit is reg.

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Eer jou vader en moeder; wat die eerste gebod is met ‚'n belofte;

3

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Dat dit met jou goed mag gaan, en dat jy lank mag lewe op die aarde.

4

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

En julle, vaders, verbitter nie julle kinders nie: maar voed hulle op in die tug en vermaning van die Here.

5

Servants, be obedient to them that are [your] masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Diensknegte, wees gehoorsaam aan hulle wat julle here is volgens die vlees, met vrees en bewing, in eenvoudigheid van julle hart, soos aan Christus;

6

Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

Nie met oogsdiens, soos mensebehaers nie; maar as diensknegte van Christus, die wil van God van harte doende;

7

With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

Met goeie gesindheid dienende, soos aan die Here, en nie aan mense nie:

8

Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free.

Wetende dat wat goed elkeen doen, hy dieselfde van die Here sal ontvang, of hy dienskneg of vryman is.

9

And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

En julle, here, doen dieselfde teenoor hulle, en laat die dreigemente na: wetende dat julle eie Meester ook in die hemel is; en daar is by Hom geen aanneming van persone nie.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Eindelik, my broers, wees sterk in die Here, en in die sterkte van sy mag.

11

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Trek die hele wapenrusting van God aan, dat julle mag standhou teen die listige streke van die duiwel.

12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Want ons worstel nie teen vlees en bloed nie, maar teen owerhede, teen magte, teen die wêreldheersers van die duisternis van hierdie wêreld, teen die geestelike booshede in die hemelse plekke.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Daarom neem die hele wapenrusting van God, dat julle mag weerstaan in die bose dag, en, alles volbring hebbende, standhou.

14

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Staan dan, julle lendene omgord met die waarheid, en aangetrek met die borsplaat van die geregtigheid;

15

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

En julle voete geskoei met die bereidheid van die evangelie van die vrede;

16

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Bo alles, die skild van die geloof aanneemende, waarmee julle in staat sal wees om al die vurige pyle van die boosheid te blus.

17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

En neem die helm van die heil, en die swaard van die Gees, wat is die woord van God:

18

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Bidende altyd met alle gebed en smeking in die Gees, en daarby wakende met alle volharding en smeking vir al die heiliges;

19

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

En vir my, dat my die woord gegee mag word, dat ek my mond met vrymoedigheid mag oopmaak, om die geheimenis van die evangelie bekend te maak,

20

For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Waarvoor ek ‚'n gesant is in kettings: dat daarin ek mag spreek vrymoedig, soos ek behoort te spreek.

21

But that ye also may know my affairs, [and] how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

Maar dat julle ook mag weet van my sake, en hoe dit met my gaan, sal Tígikus, ’n geliefde broer en getroue dienaar in die Here, julle alles bekend maak:

Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and [that] he might comfort your hearts.

Wat ek juis tot julle gestuur het vir dieselfde doel, dat julle ons sake mag weet, en dat hy julle harte mag vertroos.

23

Peace [be] to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Vrede sy aan die broers, en liefde met geloof, van God die Vader en die Here Jesus Christus.

24

Grace [be] with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Genade sy met almal wat onse Here Jesus Christus in opregtheid liefhet. Amen.
