Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
Toe het ons omgedraai, en na die wildernis getrek by die pad van die Skelfsee, soos die HERE tot my gespreek het: en ons het baie dae lank om die berg Seïr getrek.

And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
En die HERE het tot my gespreek, en gesê,
3
Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
Julle het lank genoeg om hierdie berg getrek: draai julle noordwaarts.
4
And command thou the people, saying, Ye [are] to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
En beveel die volk, en sê, Julle moet deur die grens van julle broers die kinders van Esau trek, wat in Seïr woon; en hulle sal vir julle bevrees wees: neem dus goed ag op julleself:

Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau [for] a possession.
Moenie met hulle in twis raak nie; want ek sal julle van hulle land nie eens soveel gee as ’n voetstap nie; omdat ek die berg Seïr aan Esau as besitting gegee het.

Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
Julle moet voedsel van hulle vir geld koop, dat julle mag eet; en julle moet ook water van hulle vir geld koop, dat julle mag drink.
7
For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God [hath been] with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
Want die HERE jou God het jou geseën in al die werk van jou hand: Hy ken jou wandeling deur hierdie groot wildernis: hierdie veertig jaar was die HERE jou God met jou; jou het niks ontbreek nie.

And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
En toe ons by ons broers die kinders van Esau, wat in Seïr woon, verbygetrek het, van die pad van die vlakte af, van Elat, en van Esjon-Geber af, het ons omgedraai en deur die pad van die wildernis van Moab getrek.

And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land [for] a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot [for] a possession.
En die HERE het tot my gesê, Moenie die Moabiete benoud maak nie, en moenie met hulle in twis raak nie; want ek sal jou nie van hulle land tot ’n besitting gee nie; omdat ek Ar aan die kinders van Lot as besitting gegee het.
10
The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
(Die Emiete het daarin gewoon vroeër, ’n groot volk, en baie, en lank soos die Enakiete;
11
Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
Wat ook as reuse gereken is, soos die Enakiete; maar die Moabiete noem hulle Emiete.
12
The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
Die Horiete het ook vroeër in Seïr gewoon; maar die kinders van Esau het hulle uitgedrywe toe hulle voor hulle vernietig is, en in hulle plek gewoon, soos Israel gedoen het aan die land van sy besitting, wat die HERE aan hulle gegee het.)

Now rise up, [said I], and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
Nou staan op, sê ek, en trek oor die dal Sered. En ons het oor die dal Sered getrek.
14
And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, [was] thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.
En die dae wat ons getrek het van Kades-Barnéa af tot ons oorgegaan het oor die dal Sered, was agt en dertig jaar; totdat die hele geslag van die manne van oorlog uit die leër verteer was, soos die HERE hulle met ’n eed gesweer het.

For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
Want sekerlik was die hand van die HERE teen hulle, om hulle uit die leër te vernietig, totdat hulle verteer was.
16
So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
So het dit dan gebeur, toe al die manne van oorlog verteer was en dood was uit die midde van die volk,
17
That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
Dat die HERE tot my gespreek het, en gesê,
18
Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
Jy trek vandag oor die grens van Moab, selfs Ar:
19
And [when] thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon [any] possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot [for] a possession.
En wanneer jy naby die kinders van Ammon kom, moenie hulle benoud maak nie, en moenie met hulle in twis raak nie: want ek sal jou nie van die land van die kinders van Ammon tot ‚'n besitting gee nie; omdat ek dit aan die kinders van Lot as besitting gegee het.

(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
(Dit is ook as ’n land van reuse gereken: reuse het daarin gewoon vroeër; en die Ammoniete noem hulle Samsummiete;
21
A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
‚'n Groot volk, en baie, en lank soos die Enakiete; maar die HERE het hulle voor hulle vernietig; en hulle het hulle uitgedrywe, en in hulle plek gewoon:
22
As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:
Soos Hy gedoen het vir die kinders van Esau, wat in Seïr woon, toe Hy die Horiete voor hulle vernietig het; en hulle het hulle uitgedrywe, en in hulle plek gewoon tot vandag toe:

And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, [even] unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
En die Awiete wat in Haserim gewoon het tot by Gaza, die Kaftoriete, wat uit Kaftor uitgegaan het, het hulle vernietig, en in hulle plek gewoon.)

Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess [it], and contend with him in battle.
Staan op, trek julle op, en trek oor die rivier Arnon: kyk, ek het Síhon die Amoriet, koning van Hesbon, en sy land in jou hand gegee: begin om dit in besit te neem, en wees in twis met hom in die geveg.
25
This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations [that are] under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
Vandag sal ek begin om die vrees vir jou en die skrik vir jou te sit op die nasies wat onder die hele hemel is, wat die gerug van jou sal hoor, en sal bewe, en benoud wees vanweë jou.
26
And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
En ek het boodskappers uit die wildernis van Kedemot na Síhon koning van Hesbon gestuur met woorde van vrede, en gesê,
27
Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
Laat my deur jou land trek: ek sal langs die grootpad gaan, ek sal nie regs of links afdraai nie.
28
Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
Jy moet vir my voedsel vir geld verkoop, dat ek mag eet; en water vir geld gee, dat ek mag drink: net laat my te voet deurgaan;
29
(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.
(Soos die kinders van Esau wat in Seïr woon, en die Moabiete wat in Ar woon, aan my gedoen het;) totdat ek oor die Jordaan trek in die land wat die HERE onse God aan ons gee.
30
But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as [appeareth] this day.
Maar Síhon koning van Hesbon wou ons nie deur hom laat trek nie: want die HERE jou God het sy gees verhard, en sy hart verstok, dat Hy hom in jou hand mag oorgee, soos dit vandag is.
31
And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
En die HERE het tot my gesê, Kyk, ek het begin om Síhon en sy land voor jou te gee: begin om te besit, dat jy sy land mag erf.
32
Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
Toe het Síhon teen ons uitgekom, hy en sy hele volk, om te veg by Jáhas.
33
And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
En die HERE onse God het hom voor ons oorgegee; en ons het hom verslaan, en sy seuns, en sy hele volk.
34
And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
En ons het in daardie tyd al sy stede geneem, en die manne, en die vroue, en die kinders, van elke stad heeltemal vernietig, ons het niemand laat oorbly nie:
35
Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
Net die vee het ons as buit vir onsself geneem, en die prooi van die stede wat ons geneem het.
36
From Aroer, which [is] by the brink of the river of Arnon, and [from] the city that [is] by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
Van Aroër af, wat by die oewer van die rivier Arnon is, en van die stad af wat by die rivier is, selfs tot by Gílead, was daar nie een stad te sterk vir ons nie: die HERE onse God het almal voor ons oorgegee:
37
Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, [nor] unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
Net tot by die land van die kinders van Ammon het jy nie gekom nie, of tot by enige plek van die rivier Jabbok, of tot by die stede in die gebergte, of tot by enige plek wat die HERE onse God ons verbied het.
