Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself:
Toe het Agrippa tot Paulus gesê, Jy word toegelaat om vir jouself te spreek. Toe het Paulus sy hand uitgestrek, en sy verdediging gemaak:

I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:
Ek ag myself gelukkig, koning Agrippa, omdat ek my sal verdedig voor jou vandag aangaande al die dinge waarvan ek deur die Jode aangekla word:

Especially [because I know] thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.
Veral omdat ek weet dat jy kundig is in al die gebruike en vrae wat onder die Jode is: daarom bid ek jou om my geduldig te hoor.

My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
My wyse van lewe van my jeug af, wat van die begin af was onder my eie nasie in Jérusalem, ken al die Jode;
5
Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
Wat my van die begin af geken het, as hulle wil getuig, dat na die strengste sekt van ons godsdiens het ek as ’n Fariseër gelewe.

And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:
En nou staan ek, en word ondervra om die hoop van die belofte wat deur God aan ons vaders gemaak is:
7
Unto which [promise] our twelve tribes, instantly serving [God] day and night, hope to come. For which hope’s sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.
Waartoe ons twaalf stamme, ywerig nag en dag dien, hoop om te kom. Om hierdie hoop se ontwil, koning Agrippa, word ek deur die Jode aangekla.

Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?
Waarom word dit as ‚'n ongelooflike ding by julle geag, dat God die dooies opwek?

I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
Ek het waarlik gedink by myself, dat ek baie dinge teen die Naam van Jesus van Nasaret moes doen,

Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against [them].
Wat ek ook in Jérusalem gedoen het: en baie van die heiliges het ek in die gevangenisse opgesluit, nadat ek gesag van die owerpriesters ontvang het; en toe hulle omgebring is, het ek my stem daarteen gegee.

And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled [them] to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted [them] even unto strange cities.
En ek het hulle dikwels in elke sinagoge gestraf, en hulle gedwing om te laster; en omdat ek buitengewoon teen hulle woedend was, het ek hulle selfs tot vreemde stede vervolg.

Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
Waarop soos ek na Damaskus gegaan het met gesag en opdrag van die owerpriesters,

At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.
Teen die middag, o koning, het ek op die pad ‚'n lig uit die hemel gesien, bo die helderheid van die son, wat om my en hulle wat met my gereis het geskyn het.
14
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? [it is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
En toe ons almal op die aarde geval het, het ek ’n stem gehoor wat tot my spreek, en sê in die Hebreeuse taal, Saul, Saul, waarom vervolg jy My? dit is hard vir jou om teen die prikkels te skop.

And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
En ek het gesê, Wie is U, Here? En Hy het gesê, Ek is Jesus wat jy vervolg.
16
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
Maar staan op, en staan op jou voete: want ek het aan jou verskyn vir hierdie doel, om jou ‚'n dienaar en ‚'n getuie te maak beide van hierdie dinge wat jy gesien het, en van daardie dinge waarin ek aan jou sal verskyn;

Delivering thee from the people, and [from] the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
Jou verlosende van die volk, en van die heidene, tot wie ek jou nou stuur,
18
To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Om hulle oë oop te maak, en om hulle van die duisternis tot die lig te bekeer, en van die mag van die Satan tot God, dat hulle vergifnis van sondes mag ontvang, en erfenis onder hulle wat geheilig is deur die geloof wat in My is.

Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
Waarop, o koning Agrippa, ek was nie ongehoorsaam aan die hemelse gesig nie:
20
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and [then] to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Maar het eers aan hulle van Damaskus, en in Jérusalem, en deur die hele streek van Judea, en dan aan die heidene, verkondig, dat hulle hulle moet bekeer en tot God keer, en werke doen wat by die bekering pas.

For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill [me].
Om hierdie oorsaake het die Jode my in die tempel gegryp, en probeer om my om te bring.
22
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
Nadat ek daarom hulp van God ontvang het, volhard ek tot hierdie dag, en getuig beide aan klein en groot, niks sê nie behalwe dié dinge wat die profete en Moses gesê het sou kom:

That Christ should suffer, [and] that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
Dat Christus moes ly, en dat Hy die eerste sou wees wat uit die opstanding van die dooies sou opstaan, en lig aankondig aan die volk, en aan die heidene.
24
And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.
En soos hy so vir homself verdedig het, het Féstus met ’n groot stem gesê, Paulus, jy is buite jou verstand; baie geleerdheid maak jou mal.
25
But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.
Maar hy het gesê, Ek is nie mal nie, uitnemende Féstus; maar spreek die woorde van waarheid en soberheid.
26
For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.
Want die koning weet van hierdie dinge, voor wie ek ook vrymoedig spreek: want ek is oortuig dat geen van hierdie dinge vir hom verborge is nie; want hierdie ding is nie in ‚'n hoek gedoen nie.

King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.
Koning Agrippa, glo jy die profete? ek weet dat jy glo.
28
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
Toe het Agrippa tot Paulus gesê, Jy oortuig my byna om ’n Christen te word.
29
And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.
En Paulus het gesê, Ek wou by God, dat nie alleen jy, maar ook almal wat my vandag hoor, byna, en geheel en al, sodanig was soos ek is, behalwe hierdie bande.

And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:
En toe hy so gesê het, het die koning opgestaan, en die goewerneur, en Berníse, en hulle wat by hulle gesit het:
31
And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
En toe hulle opsy gegaan het, het hulle onder mekaar gespreek, sê, Hierdie man doen niks wat die dood of bande waardig is nie.
32
Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.
Toe het Agrippa tot Féstus gesê, Hierdie man kon losgelaat gewees het, as hy nie tot César geappelleer het nie.
