And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and [with] a certain orator [named] Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
En ná vyf dae het Ananías die hoëpriester afgekom met die ouderlinge, en met ’n sekere redenaar, met die naam van Tertullus, wat die goewerneur aangaande Paulus ingelig het.

And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse [him], saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
En toe hy geroep is, het Tertullus begin om hom aan te kla, sê,

We accept [it] always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.
Aangesien ons deur jou groot vrede geniet, en dat baie waardige dade deur jou voorsorg aan hierdie nasie gedoen word,
4
Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.
Ontvang ons dit altyd, en in alle plekke, uitnemende Féiks, met alle dankbaarheid.

For we have found this man [a] pestilent [fellow], and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
Nietemin, dat ek jou nie verder ophou nie, bid ek jou dat jy ons volgens jou gewoonte ‚'n paar woorde sou hoor.

Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
Want ons het hierdie man gevind ’n pes, en ’n mover van oproer onder al die Jode deur die hele wêreld, en ’n aanvoerder van die sekt van die Nasaréners:

But the chief captain Lysias came [upon us], and with great violence took [him] away out of our hands,
Wat ook probeer het om die tempel te verontreinig: wat ons ook gegryp het, en volgens ons wet wou oordeel.
8
Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
Maar die hoofman oor ’n duisend Lísias het gekom, en met groot geweld hom uit ons hande geneem,

And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.
En sy aanklaers beveel om by jou te kom: deur wie ondersoek jy self mag kennis neem aangaande al hierdie dinge waarvan ons hom aankla.

Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
En die Jode het ook ingestem, sê dat hierdie dinge so was.

Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.
Toe het Paulus, nadat die goewerneur aan hom gewink het om te spreek, geantwoord, Aangesien ek weet dat jy baie jare lank ‚'n regter is vir hierdie nasie, antwoord ek des te vrymoediger vir myself:

And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
Omdat jy mag verstaan, dat daar nog maar twaalf dae is sedert ek opgegaan het om in Jérusalem te aanbid.

Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.
En hulle het my nóg in die tempel gevind wat met iemand redeneer, of die mense ophits, nóg in die sinagoges, nóg in die stad:
14
But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
En hulle kan nie bewys die dinge waarvan hulle my nou aankla nie.
15
And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
Maar dit bely ek vir jou, dat ek volgens die weg wat hulle ‚'n sekt noem, so dien die God van my vaders, en glo al die dinge wat in die wet en in die profete geskrywe is:

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and [toward] men.
En het hoop tot God, wat hulle self ook toelaat, dat daar ‚'n opstanding van die dooies sal wees, beide van die regverdiges en onregverdiges.
17
Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.
En hierin oefen ek myself, om altyd ’n gewete te hê sonder oortreding teenoor God, en teenoor die mense.
18
Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.
Nou ná baie jare het ek gekom om aalmoese te bring aan my nasie, en offers.
19
Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me.
Waarby sekere Jode uit Asië my gevind het gereinig in die tempel, nóg met ’n skare, nóg met oproer.
20
Or else let these same [here] say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,
Wat behoort hier teenwoordig te wees voor jou, en aankla, as hulle iets teen my gehad het.
21
Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
Of anders laat hierdie self sê, as hulle enige onreg in my gevind het, terwyl ek in die raad gestaan het,
22
And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of [that] way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
Behalwe aangaande hierdie een stem, dat ek onder hulle uitgeroep het, Aangaande die opstanding van die dooies word ek vandag deur julle ondervra.

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let [him] have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
En toe Féiks dit gehoor het, nadat hy meer volmaakte kennis van daardie weg gehad het, het hy hulle uitgestel, en gesê, Wanneer Lísias die hoofman oor ’n duisend afkom, sal ek julle saak ten volle ken.

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
En hy het beveel dat ‚'n honderdman Paulus bewaar, en hom verligting gee, en dat hy niemand van sy kennisse verhinder om hom te bedien of by hom te kom nie.

And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
En ná sekere dae, toe Féiks gekom het met sy vrou Drusilla, wat ’n Jodin was, het hy Paulus gestuur, en hom aangaande die geloof in Christus gehoor.

He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
En soos hy geredeneer het van geregtigheid, matigheid, en oordeel wat kom, is Féiks bevrees, en het geantwoord, Gaan jou weg vir hierdie keer; wanneer ek ’n geleë tyd het, sal ek jou roep.

But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.
Hy het ook gehoop dat geld aan hom gegee sou word deur Paulus, dat hy hom sou loslaat: daarom het hy hom ook dikwels gestuur, en met hom gespreek.
