Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him,

Nou bid ons julle, broers, by die koms van onse Here Jesus Christus, en by ons bymekaarkoming tot Hom,

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Dat julle nie gou in julle gemoed geskud of ontsteld word nie, nóg deur gees, nóg deur woord, nóg deur brief asof van ons, asof die dag van Christus naby is.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Laat niemand julle op enige wyse mislei nie: want daardie dag sal nie kom nie, tensy eers die afval kom, en die mens van die sonde geopenbaar word, die seun van die verderf;

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Wat homself teëstel en verhef bo alles wat God genoem word, of wat aanbid word; sodat hy as God in die tempel van God sit, en homself toon dat hy God is.

Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

Onthou julle nie dat, toe ek nog by julle was, ek julle hierdie dinge gesê het nie?

6

And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

En nou weet julle wat terughou, dat hy op sy tyd geopenbaar mag word.

7

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way.

Want die geheimenis van die ongeregtigheid werk alreeds: net hy wat nou terughou, sal terughou, totdat hy uit die weg geruim word.

8

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

En dan sal daardie goddelose geopenbaar word, wat die Here sal verteer met die gees van sy mond, en vernietig met die skynsel van sy koms:

9

[Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Selfs hy, wie se koms is na die werking van die Satan met alle krag en tekens en leuenagtige wonders,

10

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

En met alle verleiding van ongeregtigheid in hulle wat verlore gaan; omdat hulle die liefde tot die waarheid nie ontvang het nie, dat hulle gered sou word.

11

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

En om hierdie oorsaak sal God hulle sterk dwaling stuur, dat hulle die leuen sou glo:

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Dat almal veroordeel mag word wat nie die waarheid geglo het nie, maar behae gehad het in die ongeregtigheid.

13

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Maar ons is verplig om God altyd vir julle te dank, broers geliefd deur die Here, omdat God julle van die begin af uitverkies het tot heil deur die heiligmaking van die Gees en geloof in die waarheid:

Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Waartoe Hy julle geroep het deur ons evangelie, tot die verkryging van die heerlikheid van onse Here Jesus Christus.

15

Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

Daarom, broers, staan vas, en hou die ordonnanse vas wat julle geleer is, of dit deur woord of ons brief is.

16

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

Nou onse Here Jesus Christus self, en God, selfs onse Vader, wat ons liefgehad het, en ons ewige vertroosting en goeie hoop deur genade gegee het,

Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Vertroos julle harte, en bevestig julle in elke goeie woord en werk.
