And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;

En dit was so, toe die koning in sy huis gesit het, en die HERE hom rus gegee het van al sy vyande rondom;

That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

Dat die koning tot Natan die profeet gesê het, Kyk nou, ek woon in ’n huis van sederhout, maar die ark van God woon binne-in gordyne.

And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that [is] in thine heart; for the LORD [is] with thee.

En Natan het tot die koning gesê, Gaan, doen alles wat in jou hart is; want die HERE is met jou.

And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,

En dit was so dieselfde nag, dat die woord van die HERE tot Natan gekom het, en gesê,

Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

Gaan en sê tot my dienaar, tot Dawid, So sê die HERE, Sal jy vir My ’n huis bou om in te woon?

Whereas I have not dwelt in [any] house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

Want ek het nie in ‚'n huis gewoon van die dag af dat ek die kinders van Israel uit Egipte opgebring het tot hierdie dag nie, maar het gewandel in ‚'n tent en in ‚'n tabernakel.

In all [the places] wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?

In al die plekke waar ek met al die kinders van Israel gewandel het, het ek ooit ’n woord gespreek met enige van die stamme van Israel, wat ek beveel het om my volk Israel te wei, en gesê, Waarom bou julle nie vir My ’n huis van sederhout nie?

Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

Nou dan, so moet jy tot my dienaar Dawid sê, So sê die HERE van die leërskare, Ek het jou van die skaapkrale geneem, van agter die skape, om ’n vors te wees oor my volk, oor Israel:

And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great [men] that [are] in the earth.

En ek was met jou waarheen jy ook al gegaan het, en het al jou vyande voor jou uit uitgeroei, en het jou ‚'n groot naam gemaak, soos die naam van die grootes wat op die aarde is.

Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

Bowendien sal ek ’n plek vir my volk Israel aanwys, en hulle plant, dat hulle in hulle eie plek mag woon, en nie meer verroer word nie; en die kinders van boosheid sal hulle nie meer soos vroeër verdruk nie,

And as since the time that I commanded judges [to be] over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.

En soos van die tyd af dat ek regters oor my volk Israel aangestel het, en jou rus gegee het van al jou vyande. Ook sê die HERE aan jou dat Hy vir jou ’n huis sal maak.

And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

En wanneer jou dae vervul is, en jy by jou vaders slaap, sal ek jou saad ná jou opwek, wat uit jou lyf sal voortkom, en ek sal sy koninkryk bevestig.

He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

Hy sal ‚'n huis vir my Naam bou, en ek sal die troon van sy koninkryk vir ewig bevestig.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

Ek sal vir hom ‚'n vader wees, en hy sal vir My ‚'n seun wees. As hy ongeregtigheid doen, sal ek hom tugtig met die roede van mense, en met die slae van die kinders van die mens:

But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took [it] from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

Maar my barmhartigheid sal nie van hom wyk soos ek dit van Saul geneem het, wat ek voor jou aangesig weggeneem het nie.

And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

En jou huis en jou koninkryk sal vir ewig voor jou bevestig word: jou troon sal vir ewig bevestig word.

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Volgens al hierdie woorde, en volgens hierdie hele gesig, so het Natan met Dawid gespreek.

Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who [am] I, O Lord GOD? and what [is] my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

Toe het koning Dawid ingegaan, en voor die HERE gaan sit, en gesê, Wie is ek, o Here HERE? en wat is my huis, dat U my tot hiertoe gebring het?

And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And [is] this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?

En dit was nog ’n klein ding in u oë, o Here HERE; maar U het ook van die huis van u dienaar vir ’n groot tyd gespreek. En is dit die manier van die mens, o Here HERE?

And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.

En wat kan Dawid meer tot U sê? want U, Here HERE, ken u dienaar.

For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know [them].

Om u woord se ontwil, en volgens u eie hart, het U al hierdie groot dinge gedoen, om dit aan u dienaar bekend te maak.

Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for [there is] none like thee, neither [is there any] God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Daarom is U groot, o HERE God: want daar is niemand soos U nie, en daar is geen God behalwe U nie, volgens alles wat ons met ons ore gehoor het.

And what one nation in the earth [is] like thy people, [even] like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods?

En watter een nasie op die aarde is soos u volk, selfs soos Israel, wat God vir Homself gegaan het om te verlos tot ‚'n volk, en om Hom ‚'n naam te maak, en om vir julle groot en vreeslike dinge te doen, vir u land, voor u volk, wat U vir U uit Egipte, uit die nasies en hulle gode, verlos het?

For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel [to be] a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.

Want U het u volk Israel vir U bevestig om u volk te wees vir ewig: en U, HERE, het hulle God geword.

And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish [it] for ever, and do as thou hast said.

En nou, o HERE God, die woord wat U aangaande u dienaar en aangaande sy huis gespreek het, bevestig dit vir ewig, en doen soos U gespreek het.

And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts [is] the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.

En laat u Naam vir ewig groot gemaak word, deur te sê, Die HERE van die leërskare is die God oor Israel: en laat die huis van u dienaar Dawid voor U bevestig word.

For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

Want U, o HERE van die leërskare, God van Israel, het dit aan u dienaar geopenbaar, deur te sê, Ek sal vir jou ’n huis bou: daarom het u dienaar in sy hart gevind om hierdie gebed tot U te bid.

And now, O Lord GOD, thou [art] that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

En nou, o Here HERE, U is daardie God, en u woorde is waarheid, en U het hierdie goedheid aan u dienaar beloof:

Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken [it]: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

Daarom laat dit U nou behaag om die huis van u dienaar te seën, dat dit vir ewig voor U mag wees: want U, o Here HERE, het dit gespreek: en met u seën laat die huis van u dienaar vir ewig geseën word.
