Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
Bowendien het Ahítofel tot Absalom gesê, Laat my nou twaalfduisend man kies, en ek sal opstaan en Dawid vannag agtervolg:
2
And I will come upon him while he [is] weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that [are] with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
En ek sal by hom kom terwyl hy moeg en slap van hande is, en ek sal hom verskrik: en die hele volk wat by hom is, sal vlug; en ek sal die koning alleen neerslaan:

And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest [is] as if all returned: [so] all the people shall be in peace.
En ek sal die hele volk na jou toe terugbring: die man wat jy soek is soos wanneer almal terugkeer: so sal die hele volk in vrede wees.

And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
En die saak het Absalom behaag, en al die ouderlinge van Israel.

Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
Toe het Absalom gesê, Roep nou ook Husai die Argiet, en laat ons hoor wat hy sê.

And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do [after] his saying? if not; speak thou.
En toe Husai by Absalom gekom het, het Absalom tot hom gespreek, en gesê, Ahítofel het so gespreek: moet ons doen volgens sy woord? as nie, spreek jy.

And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given [is] not good at this time.
En Husai het tot Absalom gesê, Die raad wat Ahítofel hierdie keer gegee het, is nie goed nie.

For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they [be] mighty men, and they [be] chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father [is] a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
Want, het Husai gesê, jy ken jou vader en sy manne, dat hulle dapper manne is, en hulle is bitter van siel, soos ’n beer wat van haar welpies in die veld beroof is: en jou vader is ’n man van oorlog, en sal nie by die volk oornag nie.

Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some [other] place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
Kyk, hy is nou verberg in een van die putte, of in een of ander plek: en dit sal wees, wanneer sommige van hulle in die begin val, dat elkeen wat dit hoor, sal sê, Daar is ’n slag onder die volk wat Absalom volg.

And he also [that is] valiant, whose heart [is] as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father [is] a mighty man, and [they] which [be] with him [are] valiant men.
En hy ook wat dapper is, wie se hart soos die hart van ’n leeu is, sal heeltemal wegsmelt: want die hele Israel weet dat jou vader ’n dapper man is, en dié wat by hom is, dapper manne is.

Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
Daarom raad ek dat die hele Israel na jou bymekaargemaak word, van Dan af tot by Beërséba, soos die sand wat by die see is in menigte; en dat jy self in die geveg gaan.

So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that [are] with him there shall not be left so much as one.
So sal ons by hom kom in een of ander plek waar hy gevind word, en ons sal op hom val soos die dou op die grond val: en van hom en van al die manne wat by hom is, sal daar nie een oorbly nie.

Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
Bowendien, as hy in ‚'n stad ingaan, dan moet die hele Israel toue na daardie stad bring, en ons sal dit in die rivier trek, totdat daar nie een klein steentjie daar gevind word nie.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite [is] better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
En Absalom en al die manne van Israel het gesê, Die raad van Husai die Argiet is beter as die raad van Ahítofel. Want die HERE het dit so beskik om die goeie raad van Ahítofel te verydel, met die bedoeling dat die HERE onheil oor Absalom mag bring.

Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
Toe het Husai tot Sadok en tot Abjatar die priesters gesê, So en so het Ahítofel Absalom en die ouderlinge van Israel geraad; en so en so het ek geraad.

Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that [are] with him.
Stuur nou daarom haastig, en vertel Dawid, en sê, Oornag nie vannag in die vlaktes van die wildernis nie, maar gaan gou oor; dat die koning nie verslind word nie, en die hele volk wat by hom is.

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
Nou het Jonatan en Ahimaäs by die fontein Rogel gestaan; want hulle mag nie gesien word om in die stad in te gaan nie: en ’n diensmaagd het gegaan en hulle vertel; en hulle het gegaan en koning Dawid vertel.

Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.
Nogtans het ‚'n seun hulle gesien, en Absalom vertel: maar hulle het altwee gou gegaan, en by die huis van ‚'n man in Bahurim gekom, wat ‚'n put in sy voorplaas gehad het; en hulle het daar afgeklim.

And the woman took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.
En die vrou het ‚'n deksel geneem, en dit oor die put se mond gesprei, en koring daarop uitgesprei; en die saak is nie bekend geword nie.

And when Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where [is] Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find [them], they returned to Jerusalem.
En toe Absalom se dienaars by die vrou in die huis gekom het, het hulle gesê, Waar is Ahimaäs en Jonatan? En die vrou het tot hulle gesê, Hulle het deur die waterstroom gegaan. En toe hulle gesoek het en hulle nie kon vind nie, het hulle na Jérusalem teruggekeer.

And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
En dit was so, nadat hulle weggegaan het, dat hulle uit die put opgeklim het, en gegaan en koning Dawid vertel het, en tot Dawid gesê het, Staan op, en gaan gou oor die water: want so het Ahítofel teen julle geraad.

Then David arose, and all the people that [were] with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
Toe het Dawid opgestaan, en die hele volk wat by hom was, en hulle het deur die Jordaan gegaan: teen die môrelig was daar nie een van hulle wat nie deur die Jordaan gegaan het nie.

And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled [his] ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
En toe Ahítofel gesien het dat sy raad nie gevolg is nie, het hy die esel opgesaal, en opgestaan, en na sy huis, na sy stad, gegaan, en sy huis in orde gestel, en homself opgehang, en gesterwe, en is in die graf van sy vader begrawe.

Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
Toe het Dawid by Mahánaïm gekom. En Absalom het deur die Jordaan gegaan, hy en al die manne van Israel met hom.

And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa [was] a man’s son, whose name [was] Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.
En Absalom het Amasa as owerste van die leër aangestel in die plek van Joab: wat Amasa was ’n seun van ’n man wie se naam was Jitra ’n Israeliet, wat by Abígal die dogter van Nahas, suster van Serúja, Joab se moeder, ingegaan het.

So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
So het Israel en Absalom dan in die land Gílead kamp opgeslaan.

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
En dit was so, toe Dawid by Mahánaïm gekom het, dat Sobí die seun van Nagas van Rabba van die kinders van Ammon, en Magir die seun van Ammiël van Lo-Debar, en Barsillai die Gíleadiet van Rogelim,

Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched [corn], and beans, and lentiles, and parched [pulse],
Bedde, en bekers, en erdeware, en koring, en gars, en meel, en geroosterde koring, en bone, en lensies, en geroosterde peulvrugte,
29
And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that [were] with him, to eat: for they said, The people [is] hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
En heuning, en botter, en skape, en kaas van beeste gebring het vir Dawid, en vir die volk wat by hom was, om te eet: want hulle het gesê, Die volk is honger, en moeg, en dors, in die wildernis.
