And when David was a little past the top [of the hill], behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred [loaves] of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.
En toe Dawid ’n bietjie verby die top was, kyk, Siba die dienaar van Mefibóset het hom tegemoetgekom, met ’n paar esels opgesaal, en daarop tweehonderd brode, en ’n honderd trosse rosyne, en ’n honderd van somervrugte, en ’n sak wyn.

And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses [be] for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
En die koning het tot Siba gesê, Wat bedoel jy met hierdie dinge? En Siba het gesê, Die esels is vir die koning se huisgesin om op te ry; en die brood en somervrugte vir die jongmanne om te eet; en die wyn, dat dié wat in die wildernis moeg is, mag drink.

And the king said, And where [is] thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.
En die koning het gesê, En waar is jou meester se seun? En Siba het tot die koning gesê, Kyk, hy bly in Jérusalem: want hy het gesê, Vandag sal die huis van Israel my die koninkryk van my vader teruggee.

Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine [are] all that [pertained] unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee [that] I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.
Toe het die koning tot Siba gesê, Kyk, alles wat aan Mefibóset behoort, is joune. En Siba het gesê, Ek buig my neer: laat my genade vind in jou oë, my heer, o koning.

And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name [was] Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
En toe koning Dawid by Bahurim gekom het, kyk, daar het ’n man van die familie van die huis van Saul uitgegaan, wie se naam was Símeï, die seun van Gera: hy het uitgegaan, en al die pad al gevloek.

And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men [were] on his right hand and on his left.
En hy het Dawid met klippe gegooi, en al die dienaars van koning Dawid: en al die volk en al die dapper manne was aan sy regterhand en aan sy linkerhand.

And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
En so het Símeï gesê toe hy gevloek het, Kom uit, kom uit, jy man van bloed, en jy man van Belial:

The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou [art taken] in thy mischief, because thou [art] a bloody man.
Die HERE het al die bloed van die huis van Saul, in wie se plek jy geregeer het, op jou teruggebring; en die HERE het die koninkryk in die hand van Absalom jou seun oorgegee: en kyk, jy is in jou onheil geneem, omdat jy ‚'n man van bloed is.

Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
Toe het Abísai die seun van Serúja tot die koning gesê, Waarom moet hierdie dooie hond my heer die koning vloek? laat my oorgaan, ek bid jou, en sy hoof afkap.

And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
En die koning het gesê, Wat het ek met julle te doen, julle seuns van Serúja? so laat hom vloek, omdat die HERE tot hom gesê het, Vloek Dawid. Wie sal dan sê, Waarom het jy so gedoen?

And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now [may this] Benjamite [do it]? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
En Dawid het tot Abísai, en tot al sy dienaars gesê, Kyk, my seun, wat uit my lyf voortgekom het, soek my lewe: hoeveel te meer nou hierdie Benjamiet? laat hom alleen, en laat hom vloek; want die HERE het hom beveel.

It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.
Dit mag wees dat die HERE na my ellende sal kyk, en dat die HERE my goed sal vergeld vir sy vervloeking hierdie dag.

And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
En soos Dawid en sy manne by die pad gegaan het, het Símeï by die heuwel se kant aangegaan teenoor hom, en gevloek soos hy gegaan het, en met klippe na hom gegooi, en stof opgegooi.

And the king, and all the people that [were] with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
En die koning, en al die volk wat by hom was, het moeg aangekom, en hulle het daar verkwik.

And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
En Absalom, en al die volk, die manne van Israel, het in Jérusalem gekom, en Ahítofel by hom.

And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.
En dit was so, toe Husai die Argiet, Dawid se vriend, by Absalom gekom het, dat Husai tot Absalom gesê het, Mag die koning lewe, mag die koning lewe.

And Absalom said to Hushai, [Is] this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?
En Absalom het tot Husai gesê, Is dit jou barmhartigheid teenoor jou vriend? waarom het jy nie met jou vriend gegaan nie?
18
And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.
En Husai het tot Absalom gesê, Nee; maar wie die HERE, en hierdie volk, en al die manne van Israel kies, syne sal ek wees, en by hom sal ek bly.

And again, whom should I serve? [should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father’s presence, so will I be in thy presence.
En weer, wie moet ek dien? moet dit nie in die teenwoordigheid van sy seun wees nie? soos ek in jou vader se teenwoordigheid gedien het, so sal ek in jou teenwoordigheid wees.

Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.
Toe het Absalom tot Ahítofel gesê, Gee raad onder julle wat ons moet doen.

And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that [are] with thee be strong.
En Ahítofel het tot Absalom gesê, Gaan in by jou vader se byvroue, wat hy gelaat het om die huis te bewaar; en die hele Israel sal hoor dat jy stinkend geword het by jou vader: dan sal die hande van almal wat by jou is, sterk word.

So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
So het hulle dan vir Absalom ’n tent op die dak opgeslaan; en Absalom het by sy vader se byvroue ingegaan in die oë van die hele Israel.

And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, [was] as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so [was] all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.
En die raad van Ahítofel, wat hy in daardie dae gegee het, was soos wanneer ’n man by die orakel van God sou vra: so was al die raad van Ahítofel beide by Dawid en by Absalom.
