And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
En dit was so daarna, dat Absalom vir hom strydwaens en perde berei het, en vyftig manne om voor hom uit te hardloop.

And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was [so], that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city [art] thou? And he said, Thy servant [is] of one of the tribes of Israel.
En Absalom het vroeg opgestaan, en by die pad van die poort gestaan: en dit was so, dat wanneer iemand ’n saak gehad het om na die koning te kom vir oordeel, Absalom hom geroep het, en gesê het, Van watter stad is jy? En hy het gesê, Jou dienaar is van een van die stamme van Israel.

And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters [are] good and right; but [there is] no man [deputed] of the king to hear thee.
En Absalom het tot hom gesê, Kyk, jou sake is goed en reg; maar daar is geen man van die koning wat jou gehoor gee nie.

Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
Absalom het verder gesê, Ag, dat ek as regter in die land aangestel was, dat elke man wat enige saak of oorsaak het, by my kon kom, en ek hom reg sou doen!

And it was [so], that when any man came nigh [to him] to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
En dit was so, dat wanneer iemand nader gekom het om hom te groet, hy sy hand uitgesteek, en hom gegryp, en hom gesoen het.

And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
En op hierdie manier het Absalom aan die hele Israel gedoen wat gekom het om oordeel by die koning te soek: so het Absalom die harte van die manne van Israel gesteel.

And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron.
En dit was so ná veertig jaar, dat Absalom tot die koning gesê het, Laat my gaan, ek bid jou, en my gelofte betaal, wat ek aan die HERE in Hebron beloof het.

For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.
Want jou dienaar het ’n gelofte beloof terwyl ek in Gesur in Sírië gewoon het, en gesê, As die HERE my waarlik na Jérusalem terugbring, dan sal ek die HERE dien.

And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
En die koning het tot hom gesê, Gaan in vrede. So het hy dan opgestaan, en na Hebron gegaan.

But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.
Maar Absalom het spioene deur al die stamme van Israel gestuur, en gesê, Sodra julle die geluid van die trompet hoor, sê dan, Absalom heers in Hebron.

And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, [that were] called; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew not any thing.
En met Absalom het gegaan tweehonderd manne uit Jérusalem, wat genooi was; en hulle het in hulle opregtheid gegaan, en niks geweet nie.

And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counseller, from his city, [even] from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.
En Absalom het Ahítofel die Giloniet, Dawid se raadgewer, uit sy stad, uit Gilo, gestuur, terwyl hy offers geoffer het. En die sameswering was sterk; want die volk het voortdurend by Absalom toegeneem.

And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
En daar het ’n boodskapper by Dawid gekom, en gesê, Die harte van die manne van Israel is agter Absalom aan.
14
And David said unto all his servants that [were] with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not [else] escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.
En Dawid het tot al sy dienaars wat by hom in Jérusalem was, gesê, Staan op, en laat ons vlug; want ons sal anders nie aan Absalom ontsnap nie: maak haastig om weg te gaan, dat hy nie haastig inhaal, en onheil oor ons bring, en die stad met die skerpte van die swaard verslaan nie.

And the king’s servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants [are ready to do] whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.
En die koning se dienaars het tot die koning gesê, Kyk, jou dienaars is gereed om te doen alles wat my heer die koning sal kies.
16
And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, [which were] concubines, to keep the house.
En die koning het uitgegaan, en sy hele huisgesin agter hom aan. En die koning het tien vroue, byvroue, gelaat om die huis te bewaar.
17
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off.
En die koning het uitgegaan, en die hele volk agter hom aan, en by ‚'n plek ver weg gestaan.
18
And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
En al sy dienaars het by sy sy verbygegaan; en al die Keretiete, en al die Peletiete, en al die Gittiete, seshonderd manne wat van Gat agter hom aangegaan het, het voor die koning verbygegaan.

Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou [art] a stranger, and also an exile.
Toe het die koning tot Ittái die Gittiet gesê, Waarom gaan jy ook saam met ons? keer terug na jou plek, en bly by die koning: want jy is ’n vreemdeling, en ook ’n balling.

Whereas thou camest [but] yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth [be] with thee.
Aangesien jy maar gister gekom het, moet ek jou vandag saam met ons laat rondswerwe? aangesien ek gaan waarheen ek kan gaan, keer terug, en neem jou broers met jou terug: barmhartigheid en waarheid wees met jou.

And Ittai answered the king, and said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.
En Ittái het die koning geantwoord, en gesê, So waar as die HERE lewe, en so waar as my heer die koning lewe, sekerlik in die plek waar my heer die koning sal wees, of dit tot die dood of tot die lewe is, daar sal jou dienaar ook wees.

And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that [were] with him.
En Dawid het tot Ittái gesê, Gaan heen, en trek oor. En Ittái die Gittiet het oorgegaan, en al sy manne, en al die kinders wat by hom was.

And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
En die hele land het met ‚'n groot stem geween, en al die volk het oorgegaan: die koning ook self het deur die spruit Kidron gegaan, en al die volk het oorgegaan, na die pad van die wildernis.

And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites [were] with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
En kyk, Sadok ook, en al die Leviete was by hom, wat die ark van die verbond van God gedra het: en hulle het die ark van God neergesit; en Abjatar het opgegaan, totdat al die volk klaar was om uit die stad te trek.

And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me [both] it, and his habitation:
En die koning het tot Sadok gesê, Dra die ark van God terug in die stad: as ek genade in die oë van die HERE vind, sal Hy my terugbring, en my dit, en sy woning, laat sien:
26
But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, [here am] I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
Maar as Hy so sê, Ek het geen behae in jou nie; kyk, hier is ek, laat Hom met my doen soos dit goed is in sy oë.
27
The king said also unto Zadok the priest, [Art not] thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
Die koning het ook tot Sadok die priester gesê, Is jy nie ’n siener nie? keer terug na die stad in vrede, en julle twee seuns met julle, Ahimaäs jou seun, en Jonatan die seun van Abjatar.

See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.
Kyk, ek sal in die vlakte van die wildernis vertoef, totdat daar woord van julle kom om my te berig.
29
Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there.
Sadok en Abjatar het dus die ark van God terug na Jérusalem geneem: en hulle het daar gebly.
30
And David went up by the ascent of [mount] Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that [was] with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.
En Dawid het die opgang van die Olyfberg opgegaan, en geween soos hy opgegaan het, en sy hoof bedek gehad, en hy het kaalvoet gegaan: en al die volk wat by hom was, het elkeen sy hoof bedek, en hulle het opgegaan, al die pad al, en geween.

And [one] told David, saying, Ahithophel [is] among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
En een het Dawid vertel, en gesê, Ahítofel is onder die samesweerders met Absalom. En Dawid het gesê, O HERE, ek bid U, maak die raad van Ahítofel tot dwaasheid.
32
And it came to pass, that [when] David was come to the top [of the mount], where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:
En dit was so, toe Dawid by die top van die berg gekom het, waar hy God aanbid het, dat, kyk, Husai die Argiet hom tegemoetgekom het met sy kleed geskeur, en grond op sy hoof.
33
Unto whom David said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden unto me:
Aan wie Dawid gesê het, As jy met my verder gaan, sal jy my tot ’n las wees:
34
But if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; [as] I [have been] thy father’s servant hitherto, so [will] I now also [be] thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.
Maar as jy na die stad terugkeer, en tot Absalom sê, Ek sal jou dienaar wees, o koning; soos ek jou vader se dienaar in die vorige tye was, so sal ek nou jou dienaar wees: dan mag jy vir my die raad van Ahítofel verydel.
35
And [hast thou] not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, [that] what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king’s house, thou shalt tell [it] to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
En het jy nie daar by jou Sadok en Abjatar die priesters nie? daarom moet dit wees, dat alles wat jy uit die koning se huis hoor, jy dit aan Sadok en Abjatar die priesters moet vertel.
36
Behold, [they have] there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok’s [son], and Jonathan Abiathar’s [son]; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.
Kyk, hulle het daar by hulle hulle twee seuns, Ahimaäs, Sadok se seun, en Jonatan, Abjatar se seun; en deur hulle hand moet julle alles wat julle hoor, na my stuur.

So Hushai David’s friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
So het Husai, Dawid se vriend, dan in die stad ingekom, en Absalom het in Jérusalem gekom.
