Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
Simon Petrus, ‚'n dienaar en apostel van Jesus Christus, aan hulle wat ‚'n ewe kosbare geloof met ons verkry het deur die geregtigheid van God en onse Verlosser Jesus Christus:

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
Genade en vrede word aan julle vermenigvuldig deur die kennis van God, en van Jesus onse Here,
3
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that [pertain] unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Soos sy goddelike krag ons alle dinge gegee het wat tot die lewe en godsaligheid dien, deur die kennis van Hom wat ons geroep het tot heerlikheid en deug:

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Waardeur aan ons die uitnemendste en kosbaarste beloftes gegee is: dat julle daardeur deelgenote van die goddelike natuur mag word, nadat julle die verderwing wat in die wêreld is deur die begeerlikheid ontvlug het.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
En hierby, alle ywer aanwendende, voeg by julle geloof deug; en by die deug kennis;
6
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
En by die kennis matigheid; en by die matigheid verdraagsaamheid; en by die verdraagsaamheid godsaligheid;
7
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
En by die godsaligheid broederlike vriendelikheid; en by die broederlike vriendelikheid liefde.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make [you that ye shall] neither [be] barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Want as hierdie dinge in julle is, en oorvloedig is, maak hulle julle nie ledig of onvrugbaar in die kennis van onse Here Jesus Christus nie.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Maar hy wat hierdie dinge ontbreek, is blind, en kan nie ver sien nie, en het vergeet dat hy gereinig is van sy ou sondes.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Daarom, broers, gee des te meer ywer om julle roeping en uitverkiesing vas te maak: want as julle hierdie dinge doen, sal julle nooit struikel nie:
11
For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Want so sal ‚'n ingang ryklik aan julle voorsien word in die ewige koninkryk van onse Here en Verlosser Jesus Christus.

Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know [them], and be established in the present truth.
Daarom sal ek nie nalaat om julle altyd aan hierdie dinge te herinner nie, alhoewel julle dit weet, en bevestig is in die teenwoordige waarheid.
13
Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance;
Ja, ek ag dit reg, solank as ek in hierdie tabernakel is, om julle op te wek deur herinnering;
14
Knowing that shortly I must put off [this] my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
Wetende dat ek spoedig my tabernakel moet aflê, selfs soos onse Here Jesus Christus my getoon het.
15
Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
Bovendien sal ek ywerig wees dat julle ná my heengaan altyd in staat mag wees om hierdie dinge in herinnering te hou.
16
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
Want ons het nie listig bedinkte fabels nagevolg nie, toe ons julle die krag en koms van onse Here Jesus Christus bekend gemaak het, maar was ooggetuies van sy majesteit.

For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Want Hy het van God die Vader eer en heerlikheid ontvang, toe daar so ‚'n stem tot Hom gekom het van die uitnemende heerlikheid, Dit is my geliefde Seun, in wie ek ‚'n welbehaaglikheid het.

And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
En hierdie stem wat uit die hemel gekom het, het ons gehoor, toe ons saam met Hom op die heilige berg was.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Ons het ook ’n meer seker woord van profesie; waarop julle goed doen om ag te gee, soos op ’n lig wat skyn in ’n donker plek, totdat die dag aanbreek, en die môrester opgaan in julle harte:

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Dit eerstens wetende, dat geen profesie van die Skrif is van enige eie uitlegging nie.
21
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
Want die profesie het in die ou tyd nie voortgekom deur die wil van die mens nie: maar heilige manne van God het gespreek soos hulle deur die Heilige Gees aangedryf is.
