1
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, [which is] our hope;
Paulus, ’n apostel van Jesus Christus volgens die bevel van God onse Verlosser, en die Here Jesus Christus, wat ons hoop is;
2
Unto Timothy, [my] own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
Aan Timótheüs, my eie seun in die geloof: Genade, barmhartigheid, en vrede, van God onse Vader en Jesus Christus onse Here.

As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
Soos ek jou versoek het toe ek na Masedonië gereis het, dat jy in Efese sou bly, om sommige te beveel dat hulle geen ander leer sou leer nie,
4
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: [so do].
En hulle nie sou oorgee aan fabels en eindelose geslagsregisters, wat eerder twis veroorsaak as goddelike opbouing wat in die geloof is nie: so doen.
5
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and [of] a good conscience, and [of] faith unfeigned:
Nou die einde van die gebod is liefde uit ’n reine hart, en uit ’n goeie gewete, en uit ongeveinsde geloof:
6
From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
Waarvan sommige, afgedwaald, hulle tot ydele gepraat gewend het;
7
Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
Willende wetlerares wees; en verstaan nóg wat hulle sê, nóg waarvan hulle bevestig.
8
But we know that the law [is] good, if a man use it lawfully;
Maar ons weet dat die wet goed is, as ’n mens dit wettiglik gebruik;
9
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
Wetende dit, dat die wet nie gemaak is vir ’n regverdige mens nie, maar vir die wetloses en ongehoorsames, vir die goddeloses en sondaars, vir onheiliges en profane, vir vadermoordenaars en moedermoordenaars, vir manslagers,

For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
Vir hoereerders, vir hulle wat by manne lê, vir mensediewe, vir leuenaars, vir meineedigers, en as daar enige ander ding is wat teen die gesonde leer is;

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
Volgens die heerlike evangelie van die geseënde God, wat aan my toevertrou is.

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
En ek dank Christus Jesus onse Here, wat my bemagtig het, omdat Hy my getrou geag het, en my in die bediening gestel het;
13
Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did [it] ignorantly in unbelief.
Wat vroeër ’n lasteraar, en ’n vervolger, en ’n verdrukker was: maar ek het barmhartigheid verkry, omdat ek dit onwetend in ongeloof gedoen het.

And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
En die genade van onse Here was uitermate oorvloedig met geloof en liefde wat in Christus Jesus is.
15
This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Dit is ’n getroue woord, en waardig om in alle opsigte aangeneem te word, dat Christus Jesus in die wêreld gekom het om sondaars te red; van wie ek die voornaamste is.

Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
Hoebeit om hierdie oorsaak het ek barmhartigheid verkry, dat in my eers Jesus Christus alle lankmoedigheid sou toon, tot ’n voorbeeld vir hulle wat hierna in Hom sou glo tot die ewige lewe.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, [be] honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Nou aan die Koning ewig, onsterflik, onsigbaar, die enigste wyse God, sy eer en heerlikheid tot in ewigheid. Amen.

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;
Hierdie bevel gee ek jou, seun Timótheüs, volgens die profesieë wat tevore aangaande jou gegaan het, dat jy daardeur ’n goeie oorlog mag voer;

Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Die geloof en ’n goeie gewete behoudende; welke sommige, van die hand gewys hebbende, aangaande die geloof skipbreuk gely het:
20
Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Van wie is Humenéüs en Alexander; wat ek aan die Satan oorgegee het, dat hulle mag leer om nie te laster nie.
