Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort [you] by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, [so] ye would abound more and more.

Bovendien dan bid ons julle, broers, en vermaan julle in die Here Jesus, dat, soos julle van ons ontvang het hoe julle behoort te wandel en God te behaag, so julle meer en meer sou toeneem.

For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

Want julle weet watter gebooie ons julle gegee het deur die Here Jesus.

3

For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Want dit is die wil van God, selfs julle heiligmaking, dat julle julle van hoerery onthou;

4

That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

Dat elkeen van julle sou weet hoe om sy eie vat in heiligheid en eer te besit;

5

Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

Nie in die wellus van begeerlikheid nie, soos die heidene wat God nie ken nie:

6

That no [man] go beyond and defraud his brother in [any] matter: because that the Lord [is] the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

Dat niemand sou oortree en sy broer in enige saak bedrieg nie: omdat die Here die wreker is van al sulke dinge, soos ons julle ook tevore gesê en betuig het.

For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

Want God het ons nie geroep tot onreinheid nie, maar tot heiligheid.

8

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

Hy daarom wat dit verag, verag nie ‚'n mens nie, maar God, wat ook sy Heilige Gees aan ons gegee het.

9

But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

Maar aangaande die broederlike liefde het julle nie nodig dat ek aan julle skrywe nie: want julle self is deur God geleer om mekaar lief te hê.

10

And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

En inderdaad doen julle dit teenoor al die broers wat in die hele Masedonië is: maar ons bid julle, broers, dat julle meer en meer toeneem;

11

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

En dat julle dit as ‚'n eer ag om stil te wees, en julle eie sake te behartig, en te werk met julle eie hande, soos ons julle beveel het;

12

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and [that] ye may have lack of nothing.

Dat julle eerbaar mag wandel teenoor hulle wat buite is, en dat julle aan niks mag gebrek hê nie.

13

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

Maar ek wil nie hê, broers, dat julle onkundig moet wees aangaande hulle wat ontslaap het nie, dat julle nie treur soos die ander wat geen hoop het nie.

14

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Want as ons glo dat Jesus gesterwe en opgestaan het, so sal God ook hulle wat in Jesus ontslaap het, saam met Hom bring.

15

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

Want dit sê ons julle deur die woord van die Here, dat ons wat lewe en oorbly tot die koms van die Here, nie sal voorkom hulle wat ontslaap het nie.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Want die Here self sal van die hemel neerdaal met ‚'n roepstem, met die stem van die aartsengel, en met die basuin van God: en die dooies in Christus sal eers opstaan:

Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Daarna sal ons wat lewe en oorbly, saam met hulle in die wolke weggeruk word, die Here tegemoet in die lug: en so sal ons altyd by die Here wees.

18

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Daarom vertroos mekaar met hierdie woorde.
