Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
Nou het die Filistyne teen Israel geveg: en die manne van Israel het voor die Filistyne gevlug, en op die berg Gilboa geval.

And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
En die Filistyne het Saul en sy seuns hard agtervolg; en die Filistyne het Jonatan, en Abinadab, en Malki-Sua, Saul se seuns, neergeslaan.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
En die geveg was hewig teen Saul, en die boogskutters het hom getref; en hy was baie gewond deur die boogskutters.

Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Toe het Saul tot sy wapendraer gesê, Trek jou swaard uit, en steek my daarmee dood; dat hierdie onbesnedenes nie kom en my doodsteek, en met my die spot drywe nie. Maar sy wapendraer wou nie; want hy was baie bevrees. Daarom het Saul die swaard geneem, en daarop geval.

And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
En toe sy wapendraer gesien het dat Saul dood was, het hy ook op sy swaard geval, en saam met hom gesterwe.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
So is Saul, en sy drie seuns, en sy wapendraer, en al sy manne, daardie selfde dag saam gesterwe.

And when the men of Israel that [were] on the other side of the valley, and [they] that [were] on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
En toe die manne van Israel wat aan die ander kant van die dal was, en dié wat aan die ander kant van die Jordaan was, gesien het dat die manne van Israel gevlug het, en dat Saul en sy seuns dood was, het hulle die stede verlaat, en gevlug; en die Filistyne het gekom en daarin gewoon.

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
En dit was so die volgende dag, toe die Filistyne gekom het om die dooies te plunder, dat hulle Saul en sy drie seuns op die berg Gilboa gevind het.

And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish [it in] the house of their idols, and among the people.
En hulle het sy hoof afgekap, en sy wapenrusting uitgetrek, en dit in die land van die Filistyne rondgestuur, om die tyding in die huis van hulle afgode, en onder die volk te verkondig.

And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.
En hulle het sy wapenrusting in die huis van Astarot gesit: en hulle het sy liggaam aan die muur van Bet-Sean vasgeslaan.

And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
En toe die inwoners van Jabes-Gílead van hom gehoor het, wat die Filistyne aan Saul gedoen het,

All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
Het al die dapper manne opgestaan, en die hele nag geloop, en die liggaam van Saul en die liggame van sy seuns van die muur van Bet-Sean geneem, en by Jabes gekom, en hulle daar verbrand.

And they took their bones, and buried [them] under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
En hulle het hulle beendere geneem, en dit onder ‚'n boom by Jabes begrawe, en sewe dae lank gevas.
