Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

Toe het hulle Dawid vertel, en gesê, Kyk, die Filistyne veg teen Keïla, en hulle beroof die dorsvloere.

Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

Daarom het Dawid die HERE gevra, en gesê, Sal ek gaan en hierdie Filistyne verslaan? En die HERE het tot Dawid gesê, Gaan, en verslaan die Filistyne, en red Keïla.

And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

En Dawid se manne het tot hom gesê, Kyk, ons is hier in Juda bang: hoeveel te meer as ons na Keïla gaan teen die leërs van die Filistyne?

Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

Toe het Dawid die HERE nog ’n keer gevra. En die HERE het hom geantwoord en gesê, Staan op, gaan af na Keïla; want ek sal die Filistyne in jou hand gee.

So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

So het Dawid en sy manne dan na Keïla gegaan, en teen die Filistyne geveg, en hulle vee weggevoer, en hulle met ’n groot slag verslaan. So het Dawid dan die inwoners van Keïla gered.

And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, [that] he came down [with] an ephod in his hand.

En dit was so, toe Abjatar die seun van Ahímeleg na Dawid na Keïla gevlug het, dat hy ’n efod in sy hand gehad het.

And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars.

En dit is aan Saul vertel dat Dawid na Keïla gekom het. En Saul het gesê, God het hom in my hand oorgegee; want hy is toegesluit, deurdat hy in ’n stad met poorte en grendels ingegaan het.

And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

En Saul het al die volk tot die oorlog bymekaargeroep, om af te gaan na Keïla, om Dawid en sy manne te beleër.

And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod.

En Dawid het geweet dat Saul boosheid teen hom bedink het; en hy het tot Abjatar die priester gesê, Bring die efod hier.

Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

Toe het Dawid gesê, O HERE, God van Israel, u dienaar het sekerlik gehoor dat Saul soek om na Keïla te kom, om die stad te vernietig om my ontwil.

Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down.

Sal die manne van Keïla my in sy hand oorgee? sal Saul afkom, soos u dienaar gehoor het? O HERE, God van Israel, ek bid U, sê dit aan u dienaar. En die HERE het gesê, Hy sal afkom.

Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver [thee] up.

Toe het Dawid gesê, Sal die manne van Keïla my en my manne in die hand van Saul oorgee? En die HERE het gesê, Hulle sal oorgee.

Then David and his men, [which were] about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth.

Toe het Dawid en sy manne, omtrent seshonderd, opgestaan en van Keïla uitgegaan, en gegaan waar hulle kon gaan. En dit is aan Saul vertel dat Dawid van Keïla ontsnap het; en hy het opgehou om uit te trek.

And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand.

En Dawid het in die wildernis in sterk plekke gebly, en in ‚'n berg in die wildernis van Sif gebly. En Saul het hom elke dag gesoek, maar God het hom nie in sy hand oorgegee nie.

And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David [was] in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.

En Dawid het gesien dat Saul uitgegaan het om sy lewe te soek: en Dawid was in die wildernis van Sif in ‚'n woud.

And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

En Jonatan, Saul se seun, het opgestaan, en na Dawid in die woud gegaan, en sy hand in God versterk.

And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.

En hy het tot hom gesê, Wees nie bevrees nie: want die hand van Saul my vader sal jou nie vind nie; en jy sal koning wees oor Israel, en ek sal volgende aan jou wees; en dit weet Saul my vader ook.

And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house.

En hulle het altwee ‚'n verbond voor die HERE gemaak: en Dawid het in die woud gebly, en Jonatan het na sy huis gegaan.

Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which [is] on the south of Jeshimon?

Toe het die Sifiete opgegaan na Saul in Gibea, en gesê, Bly Dawid nie by ons verberg in die sterk plekke in die woud, op die heuwel van Hagíla, wat aan die suidekant van die wildernis is nie?

Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part [shall be] to deliver him into the king’s hand.

Nou dan, o koning, kom af volgens al die begeerte van jou siel om af te kom; en ons taak sal wees om hom in die koning se hand oor te gee.

And Saul said, Blessed [be] ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me.

En Saul het gesê, Geseënd is julle van die HERE; want julle het medelye met my gehad.

Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, [and] who hath seen him there: for it is told me [that] he dealeth very subtilly.

Gaan, ek bid julle, sorg nog verder, en weet en sien sy plek waar sy voet is, en wie hom daar gesien het: want dit is my gesê dat hy baie listig handel.

See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah.

Kyk dus, en soek uit al die skuilplekke waar hy homself verberg; en kom weer na my met sekerheid, en ek sal met julle gaan: en dit sal wees, as hy in die land is, dat ek hom sal soek deur al die duisende van Juda.

And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men [were] in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

En hulle het opgestaan, en na Sif voor Saul uitgegaan: maar Dawid en sy manne was in die wildernis van Maon, in die vlakte aan die suidekant van die wildernis.

Saul also and his men went to seek [him]. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard [that], he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

Saul het ook met sy manne gegaan om te soek. En hulle het dit aan Dawid vertel: daarom het hy afgegaan na ‚'n rots, en in die wildernis van Maon gebly. En toe Saul dit gehoor het, het hy Dawid in die wildernis van Maon agtervolg.

And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

En Saul het aan hierdie kant van die berg gegaan, en Dawid en sy manne aan daardie kant van die berg: en Dawid het haastig gemaak om van Saul af weg te kom; want Saul en sy manne het Dawid en sy manne omsingel om hulle te neem.

But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land.

Maar daar het ’n boodskapper by Saul gekom, en gesê, Maak haastig, en kom; want die Filistyne het op die land ingeval.

Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

Daarom het Saul teruggekeer van die agtervolging van Dawid, en teen die Filistyne gegaan: daarom het hulle daardie plek Sela-Hammahlekot genoem.

And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.

En Dawid het daarvandaan opgegaan, en in die sterk plekke by En-Gedi gewoon.
