And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
En Samuel het tot die hele Israel gesê, Kyk, ek het na julle stem geluister in alles wat julle tot my gesê het, en ’n koning oor julle aangestel.
2
And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons [are] with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.
En nou, kyk, die koning wandel voor julle uit: en ek is oud en gryshaar; en kyk, my seuns is by julle: en ek het voor julle gewandel van my jeug af tot hierdie dag.

Behold, here I [am]: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received [any] bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.
Hier is ek: getuig teen my voor die HERE, en voor sy gesalfde: wie se os het ek geneem? of wie se esel het ek geneem? of wie het ek bedrieg? wie het ek verdruk? of uit wie se hand het ek ’n omkoopgeld geneem om my oë daarmee toe te maak? en ek sal dit aan julle teruggee.

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man’s hand.
En hulle het gesê, Jy het ons nie bedrieg nie, en ons nie verdruk nie, en jy het niks uit enige man se hand geneem nie.

And he said unto them, The LORD [is] witness against you, and his anointed [is] witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, [He is] witness.
En hy het tot hulle gesê, Die HERE is getuie teen julle, en sy gesalfde is getuie hierdie dag, dat julle niks in my hand gevind het nie. En hulle het geantwoord, Hy is getuie.

And Samuel said unto the people, [It is] the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
En Samuel het tot die volk gesê, Dit is die HERE wat Moses en Aäron aangestel het, en wat julle vaders uit die land Egipte opgebring het.

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.
Nou dan, staan stil, dat ek met julle mag redeneer voor die HERE aangaande al die regverdige dade van die HERE, wat Hy aan julle en aan julle vaders gedoen het.

When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.
Toe Jakob in Egipte ingekom het, en julle vaders tot die HERE geroep het, toe het die HERE Moses en Aäron gestuur, wat julle vaders uit Egipte uitgebring het, en hulle op hierdie plek laat woon het.

And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
En toe hulle die HERE hulle God vergeet het, het Hy hulle verkoop in die hand van Sisera, owerste van die leër van Hasor, en in die hand van die Filistyne, en in die hand van die koning van Moab, en hulle het teen hulle geveg.

And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.
En hulle het tot die HERE geroep, en gesê, Ons het gesondig, omdat ons die HERE verlaat het, en die Baäls en Astarot gedien het: maar red ons nou uit die hand van ons vyande, en ons sal U dien.

And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.
En die HERE het Jerubbaäl, en Bedan, en Jifta, en Samuel gestuur, en julle uit die hand van julle vyande aan alle kante gered, en julle het veilig gewoon.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God [was] your king.
En toe julle gesien het dat Nagas die koning van die kinders van Ammon teen julle gekom het, het julle tot my gesê, Nee; maar ’n koning moet oor ons heers: toe die HERE julle God julle koning was.

Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, [and] whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
Nou dan, kyk die koning wat julle gekies het, en wat julle begeer het! en kyk, die HERE het ‚'n koning oor julle gestel.
14
If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:
As julle die HERE sal vrees, en Hom dien, en na sy stem luister, en nie in opstand kom teen die gebod van die HERE nie, dan moet beide julle, en ook die koning wat oor julle heers, die HERE julle God volg.
15
But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as [it was] against your fathers.
Maar as julle nie na die stem van die HERE wil luister nie, maar in opstand kom teen die gebod van die HERE, dan sal die hand van die HERE teen julle wees, soos dit teen julle vaders was.
16
Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
Staan nou stil, en sien hierdie groot ding wat die HERE voor julle oë sal doen.
17
[Is it] not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness [is] great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.
Is dit nie die koringoes vandag nie? ek sal tot die HERE roep, en Hy sal donder en reën gee; dat julle mag weet en sien dat julle boosheid groot is, wat julle in die oë van die HERE gedoen het, deur vir julle ’n koning te vra.

So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
So het Samuel dan tot die HERE geroep; en die HERE het daardie dag donder en reën gestuur: en die hele volk het die HERE en Samuel baie gevrees.
19
And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins [this] evil, to ask us a king.
En die hele volk het tot Samuel gesê, Bid vir jou dienaars tot die HERE jou God, dat ons nie sterwe nie: want ons het by al ons sondes hierdie boosheid bygevoeg, om vir ons ’n koning te vra.

And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
En Samuel het tot die volk gesê, Wees nie bevrees nie: julle het al hierdie boosheid gedoen: tog wend julle nie van die HERE af nie, maar dien die HERE met julle hele hart;
21
And turn ye not aside: for [then should ye go] after vain [things], which cannot profit nor deliver; for they [are] vain.
En wend julle nie af nie: want dan sou julle agter ydele dinge aangaan, wat nie kan voordeel bring of red nie; want hulle is ydel.
22
For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
Want die HERE sal sy volk nie verlaat nie om sy groot Naam se ontwil: omdat dit die HERE behaag het om julle vir Hom tot ‚'n volk te maak.
23
Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
Bowendien, wat my betref, mag dit ver van my wees dat ek teen die HERE sou sondig deur op te hou om vir julle te bid: maar ek sal julle die goeie en die regte weg leer.

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great [things] he hath done for you.
Net vrees die HERE, en dien Hom in waarheid met julle hele hart: want oorweeg hoe groot dinge Hy vir julle gedoen het.
25
But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
Maar as julle tog boosheid doen, sal julle beide, julle en julle koning, verteer word.
