Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured [it] upon his head, and kissed him, and said, [Is it] not because the LORD hath anointed thee [to be] captain over his inheritance?
Toe het Samuel ’n fles olie geneem, en dit op sy hoof uitgegooi, en hom gesoen, en gesê, Is dit nie omdat die HERE jou tot ’n vorste oor sy erfenis gesalf het nie?

When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
Wanneer jy vandag van my af weggaan, sal jy twee manne by Ragel se graf, in die grens van Benjamin by Selsa, vind; en hulle sal tot jou sê, Die esels wat jy gaan soek het, is gevind: en kyk, jou vader het die sorg vir die esels laat vaar, en is bekommerd oor julle, en sê, Wat moet ek doen vir my seun?

Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
Dan moet jy verder daarvandaan gaan, en by die eikeboom van Tabor kom, en daar sal jou drie manne tegemoetkom wat opgaan na God by Bet-el, een wat drie bokkies dra, en ‚'n ander wat drie brode dra, en ‚'n ander wat ‚'n sak wyn dra:

And they will salute thee, and give thee two [loaves] of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.
En hulle sal jou groet, en jou twee brode gee; wat jy uit hulle hand moet aanneem.

After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where [is] the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:
Daarna moet jy by die heuwel van God kom, waar die garnisoen van die Filistyne is: en dit sal wees, wanneer jy daar by die stad kom, dat jy ‚'n groep profete sal ontmoet wat van die hoogte afkom met ‚'n psalter, en ‚'n tamboeryn, en ‚'n fluit, en ‚'n harp, voor hulle uit; en hulle sal profesieer:

And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
En die Gees van die HERE sal op jou kom, en jy sal met hulle profesieer, en in ‚'n ander man verander word.

And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, [that] thou do as occasion serve thee; for God [is] with thee.
En laat dit wees, wanneer hierdie tekens by jou kom, dat jy doen soos die geleentheid jou dien; want God is met jou.
8
And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, [and] to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
En jy moet voor my afgaan na Gilgal; en kyk, ek sal na jou afkom om brandoffers te offer, en om dankoffers te slag: sewe dae moet jy wag, totdat ek by jou kom, en jou wys wat jy moet doen.

And it was [so], that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
En dit was so, toe hy sy rug omgedraai het om van Samuel af weg te gaan, dat God hom ‚'n ander hart gegee het: en al daardie tekens het daardie dag uitgekom.

And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
En toe hulle daar by die heuwel gekom het, kyk, ‚'n groep profete het hom tegemoetgekom; en die Gees van God het op hom gekom, en hy het onder hulle geprofeteer.

And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What [is] this [that] is come unto the son of Kish? [Is] Saul also among the prophets?
En dit was so, toe almal wat hom vroeër geken het, gesien het dat, kyk, hy onder die profete geprofeteer het, toe het die volk die een tot die ander gesê, Wat is dit wat met die seun van Kis gebeur het? is Saul ook onder die profete?

And one of the same place answered and said, But who [is] their father? Therefore it became a proverb, [Is] Saul also among the prophets?
En een van dieselfde plek het geantwoord en gesê, Maar wie is hulle vader? Daarom het dit ’n spreekwoord geword, Is Saul ook onder die profete?

And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
En toe hy klaar was met profesieer, het hy na die hoogte gekom.

And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that [they were] no where, we came to Samuel.
En Saul se oom het tot hom en tot sy dienaar gesê, Waarheen het julle gegaan? En hy het gesê, Om die esels te soek: en toe ons gesien het dat hulle nêrens was nie, het ons by Samuel gekom.

And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.
En Saul se oom het gesê, Sê my, ek bid jou, wat Samuel tot julle gesê het.
16
And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
En Saul het tot sy oom gesê, Hy het ons duidelik vertel dat die esels gevind is. Maar van die saak van die koningskap, waarvan Samuel gespreek het, het hy hom niks vertel nie.

And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;
En Samuel het die volk bymekaargeroep by die HERE in Mispa;
18
And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, [and] of them that oppressed you:
En tot die kinders van Israel gesê, So sê die HERE, die God van Israel, Ek het Israel uit Egipte opgebring, en julle uit die hand van die Egiptenaars, en uit die hand van al die koninkryke, en van hulle wat julle verdruk het, gered:

And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, [Nay], but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.
En julle het vandag julle God verwerp, wat julle self uit al julle teenspoede en julle benoudhede verlos het; en julle het tot Hom gesê, Nee, maar stel ’n koning oor ons aan. Stel julle nou dan voor die HERE volgens julle stamme, en volgens julle duisende.

And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
En toe Samuel al die stamme van Israel bymekaargebring het, is die stam van Benjamin gegryp.
21
When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.
Toe hy die stam van Benjamin volgens hulle families bymekaargebring het, is die familie van Matri gegryp, en Saul die seun van Kis is gegryp: en toe hulle hom gesoek het, kon hy nie gevind word nie.

Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.
Daarom het hulle die HERE weer gevra, of die man nog hierheen sou kom. En die HERE het geantwoord, Kyk, hy het homself tussen die goed verberg.

And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
En hulle het gehardloop en hom daarvandaan gehaal: en toe hy onder die volk gestaan het, was hy hoër as enige van die volk van sy skouers af en opwaarts.
24
And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that [there is] none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
En Samuel het tot die hele volk gesê, Sien julle hom wat die HERE gekies het, dat daar niemand soos hy onder die hele volk is nie? En die hele volk het gejuig, en gesê, Laat die koning lewe!

Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote [it] in a book, and laid [it] up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
Toe het Samuel aan die volk die manier van die koninkryk vertel, en dit in ’n boek geskrywe, en dit voor die HERE neergelê. En Samuel het die hele volk weggestuur, elkeen na sy huis.

And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
En Saul het ook na sy huis in Gibea gegaan; en daar het saam met hom gegaan ‚'n groep manne, wie se harte God geraak het.
27
But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.
Maar die kinders van Belial het gesê, Hoe sal hierdie man ons red? En hulle het hom verag, en hom geen geskenke gebring nie. Maar hy het stil gehou.
