And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.

And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

En dit was so in die derde jaar, dat Josafat die koning van Juda afgekom het na die koning van Israel.

And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead [is] ours, and we [be] still, [and] take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

En die koning van Israel het tot sy dienaars gesê, Weet julle dat Ramot in Gílead onsne is, en ons is stil, en neem dit nie uit die hand van die koning van Sírië nie?

And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I [am] as thou [art], my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

En hy het tot Josafat gesê, Sal jy met my gaan om te veg by Ramot-Gílead? En Josafat het tot die koning van Israel gesê, Ek is soos jy, my volk soos jou volk, my perde soos jou perde.

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

En Josafat het tot die koning van Israel gesê, Raadpleeg tog vandag die woord van die HERE.

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver [it] into the hand of the king.

Toe het die koning van Israel die profete bymekaargemaak, omtrent vierhonderd man, en tot hulle gesê, Sal ek teen Ramot-Gílead trek om te veg, of moet ek dit nalaat? En hulle het gesê, Trek op; want die Here sal dit in die hand van die koning gee.

And Jehoshaphat said, [Is there] not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?

En Josafat het gesê, Is hier nie nog ’n profeet van die HERE nie, dat ons by hom mag raadpleeg nie?

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, [There is] yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Daar is nog een man, Miga die seun van Jimla, deur wie ons die HERE mag raadpleeg: maar ek haat hom; want hy profesieer nie goeie dinge aangaande my nie, maar kwaad. En Josafat het gesê, Laat die koning nie so sê nie.

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten [hither] Micaiah the son of Imlah.

Toe het die koning van Israel ’n amptenaar geroep, en gesê, Haal haastig Miga die seun van Jimla.

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

En die koning van Israel en Josafat die koning van Juda het elkeen op sy troon gesit, aangetrek met hulle klere, in ’n oop plek by die ingang van die poort van Samaría; en al die profete het voor hulle geprofeteer.

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have consumed them.

En Sedekía die seun van Kenána het vir hom ysterhorings gemaak: en hy het gesê, So sê die HERE, Met hierdie sal jy die Síriërs stoot, totdat jy hulle verteer.

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver [it] into the king’s hand.

En al die profete het so geprofeteer, en gesê, Trek op na Ramot-Gílead, en voorspoed; want die HERE sal dit in die hand van die koning gee.

And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets [declare] good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak [that which is] good.

En die boodskapper wat gegaan het om Miga te roep, het met hom gespreek, en gesê, Kyk nou, die woorde van die profete verkondig eenparig goeie dinge aan die koning: laat jou woord, ek bid jou, soos die woord van een van hulle wees, en spreek dit wat goed is.

And Micaiah said, [As] the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.

En Miga het gesê, So waar as die HERE lewe, wat die HERE tot my sê, dit sal ek spreek.

So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver [it] into the hand of the king.

So het hy dan by die koning gekom. En die koning het tot hom gesê, Miga, sal ons teen Ramot-Gílead trek om te veg, of moet ons dit nalaat? En hy het tot hom geantwoord, Trek op, en voorspoed: want die HERE sal dit in die hand van die koning gee.

And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but [that which is] true in the name of the LORD?

En die koning het tot hom gesê, Hoeveel maal moet ek jou besweer dat jy my niks anders as die waarheid in die Naam van die HERE sal sê nie?

And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

En hy het gesê, Ek het die hele Israel sien verstrooi op die berge, soos skape wat geen herder het nie: en die HERE het gesê, Hierdie het geen meester nie: laat hulle elkeen in vrede na sy huis terugkeer.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Het ek jou nie gesê dat hy nie goeie dinge aangaande my sou profesieer nie, maar kwaad?

And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

En hy het gesê, Hoor daarom die woord van die HERE: Ek het die HERE sien sit op sy troon, en die hele leër van die hemel by Hom staan aan sy regterhand en aan sy linkerhand.

And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

En die HERE het gesê, Wie sal Agab oortuig dat hy mag optrek en by Ramot-Gílead val? En die een het so gesê, en die ander so.

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

En daar het ’n gees uitgekom, en voor die HERE gestaan, en gesê, Ek sal hom oortuig.

And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade [him], and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

En die HERE het tot hom gesê, Waarmee? En hy het gesê, Ek sal uitgaan, en ’n leuengees wees in die mond van al sy profete. En Hy het gesê, Jy sal oortuig, en ook die oorhand kry: gaan uit, en doen so.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Nou dan, kyk, die HERE het ‚'n leuengees in die mond van al hierdie jou profete gesit, en die HERE het kwaad aangaande jou gespreek.

But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Maar Sedekía die seun van Kenána het nader gekom, en Miga op die wang geslaan, en gesê, Watter pad het die Gees van die HERE van my af weggegaan om met jou te spreek?

And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

En Miga het gesê, Kyk, jy sal dit sien op daardie dag, wanneer jy in ’n binneste kamer ingaan om jou te verberg.

And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

En die koning van Israel het gesê, Neem Miga, en bring hom terug na Amon die owerste van die stad, en na Joas die koning se seun;

And say, Thus saith the king, Put this [fellow] in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

En sê, So sê die koning, Sit hierdie een in die gevangenis, en voed hom met brood van verdrukking en met water van verdrukking, totdat ek in vrede kom.

And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

En Miga het gesê, As jy enigsins in vrede terugkeer, het die HERE nie deur my gespreek nie. En hy het gesê, Hoor, o volke, almal van julle.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

So het die koning van Israel en Josafat die koning van Juda dan opgetrek na Ramot-Gílead.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Ek sal my vermom, en in die geveg ingaan; maar trek jy jou klere aan. En die koning van Israel het homself vermom, en in die geveg ingegaan.

But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

Maar die koning van Sírië het sy twee en dertig owerstes van die strydwaens beveel, en gesê, Veg nie met klein of groot nie, behalwe net met die koning van Israel.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it [is] the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

En dit was so, toe die owerstes van die strydwaens Josafat sien, dat hulle gesê het, Sekerlik is dit die koning van Israel. En hulle het na hom omgedraai om teen hom te veg: en Josafat het uitgeroep.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it [was] not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

En dit was so, toe die owerstes van die strydwaens sien dat dit nie die koning van Israel was nie, dat hulle van hom af teruggekeer het.

And a [certain] man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

En ’n sekere man het ’n pyl op ’n avontuur getrek, en die koning van Israel tussen die gewrigte van die harnas getref: daarom het hy tot die drywer van sy strydwa gesê, Draai jou hand om, en bring my uit die leër; want ek is gewond.

And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

En die geveg het daardie dag toegeneem: en die koning is in sy strydwa teen die Síriërs opgehou; en hy is in die aand doodgemaak: en die bloed het uit die wond in die midde van die strydwa uitgeloop.

And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

En daar het teen die sonsondergang ’n uitroep deur die leër gegaan, en gesê, Elkeen na sy stad, en elkeen na sy eie land.

So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

So is die koning dan dood, en is na Samaría gebring; en hulle het die koning in Samaría begrawe.

And [one] washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.

En een het die strydwa by die dam van Samaría gewas; en die honde het sy bloed gelik; en hulle het sy wapenrusting gewas; volgens die woord van die HERE wat Hy gespreek het.

Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Nou die res van die dade van Agab, en alles wat hy gedoen het, en die ivoorhuis wat hy gebou het, en al die stede wat hy gebou het, is dit nie geskrywe in die boek van die kronieke van die konings van Israel nie?

So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

So het Agab dan by sy vaders ontslaap; en Agasja sy seun het in sy plek as koning geregeer.

And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

En Josafat die seun van Asa het begin regeer oor Juda in die vierde jaar van Agab koning van Israel.

Jehoshaphat [was] thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name [was] Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

Josafat was vyf en dertig jaar oud toe hy koning geword het; en hy het vyf en twintig jaar lank in Jérusalem geregeer. En sy moeder se naam was Asúba die dogter van Silhi.

And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing [that which was] right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; [for] the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.

En hy het in al die weë van Asa sy vader gewandel; hy het nie daarvan afgewyk nie, om te doen wat reg was in die oë van die HERE: nogtans is die hoogtes nie weggedoen nie; want die volk het nog offers en reukwerk op die hoogtes geoffer.

And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

En Josafat het vrede gemaak met die koning van Israel.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, [are] they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Nou die res van die dade van Josafat, en sy mag wat hy betoon het, en hoe hy geoorlog het, is dit nie geskrywe in die boek van die kronieke van die konings van Juda nie?

And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.

En die oorblyfsel van die sodomiete, wat in die dae van sy vader Asa oorgeblewe was, het hy uit die land uitgeroei.

[There was] then no king in Edom: a deputy [was] king.

Daar was toe geen koning in Edom nie: ‚'n onderkoning was koning.

Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

Josafat het skepe van Tarsis gemaak om na Ofir te gaan vir goud: maar hulle het nie gegaan nie; want die skepe is by Esjon-Geber gebreek.

Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.

Toe het Agasja die seun van Agab tot Josafat gesê, Laat my dienaars saam met jou dienaars in die skepe gaan. Maar Josafat wou nie.

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

En Josafat het by sy vaders ontslaap, en is by sy vaders in die stad van Dawid sy vader begrawe: en Joram sy seun het in sy plek as koning geregeer.

Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.

Agasja die seun van Agab het begin regeer oor Israel in Samaría in die sewentiende jaar van Josafat koning van Juda, en het twee jaar lank oor Israel geregeer.

And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

En hy het gedoen wat sleg was in die oë van die HERE, en in die weg van sy vader, en in die weg van sy moeder, en in die weg van Jeróbeam die seun van Nebat, wat Israel laat sondig het, gewandel:

For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

Want hy het Baäl gedien, en hom aanbid, en die HERE, die God van Israel, geterg, volgens alles wat sy vader gedoen het.
