And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel: and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.
En kyk, daar het ’n man van God uit Juda by die woord van die HERE by Bet-el gekom: en Jeróbeam het by die altaar gestaan om reukwerk te brand.

And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
En hy het teen die altaar geroep by die woord van die HERE, en gesê, O altaar, altaar, so sê die HERE: Kyk, ’n kind sal aan die huis van Dawid gebore word, Josía met name; en op jou sal hy die priesters van die hoogtes offer wat op jou reukwerk brand, en mensebene sal hulle op jou verbrand.

And he gave a sign the same day, saying, This [is] the sign which the LORD hath spoken; Behold, the altar shall be rent, and the ashes that [are] upon it shall be poured out.
En hy het dieselfde dag ’n teken gegee, en gesê, Dit is die teken wat die HERE gespreek het; Kyk, die altaar sal skeur, en die as wat daarop is, sal uitgestort word.

And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
En dit was so, toe koning Jeróbeam die woord van die man van God gehoor het, wat teen die altaar in Bet-el geroep het, dat hy sy hand van die altaar af uitgesteek het, en gesê het, Gryp hom. En sy hand, wat hy teen hom uitgesteek het, het verdroog, sodat hy dit nie weer na homself kon terugtrek nie.

The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD.
Die altaar ook is geskeur, en die as is van die altaar af uitgestort, volgens die teken wat die man van God by die woord van die HERE gegee het.

And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as [it was] before.
En die koning het geantwoord en tot die man van God gesê, Smeek tog die aangesig van die HERE jou God, en bid vir my, dat my hand aan my herstel mag word. En die man van God het die HERE gesmeek, en die koning se hand is aan hom herstel, en dit het soos tevore geword.

And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.
En die koning het tot die man van God gesê, Kom saam met my huis toe, en verkwik jou, en ek sal jou ’n beloning gee.

And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:
En die man van God het tot die koning gesê, As jy my die helfte van jou huis gee, sal ek nie saam met jou ingaan nie, en ek sal ook nie brood eet of water drink in hierdie plek nie:

For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.
Want so is dit my deur die woord van die HERE beveel, en gesê, Eet geen brood nie, en drink geen water nie, en keer nie terug by dieselfde pad wat jy gekom het nie.

So he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.
So het hy dan by ‚'n ander pad gegaan, en nie teruggekeer by die pad waardeur hy by Bet-el gekom het nie.

Now there dwelt an old prophet in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel: the words which he had spoken unto the king, them they told also to their father.
Nou het daar ’n ou profeet in Bet-el gewoon; en sy seuns het gekom en hom al die werke vertel wat die man van God daardie dag in Bet-el gedoen het: die woorde ook wat hy tot die koning gespreek het, dié het hulle aan hulle vader vertel.

And their father said unto them, What way went he? For his sons had seen what way the man of God went, which came from Judah.
En hulle vader het tot hulle gesê, Watter pad het hy gegaan? Want sy seuns het gesien watter pad die man van God gegaan het, wat uit Juda gekom het.

And he said unto his sons, Saddle me the ass. So they saddled him the ass: and he rode thereon,
En hy het tot sy seuns gesê, Saal die esel vir my. So het hulle dan die esel vir hom opgesaal; en hy het daarop gery,
14
And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said unto him, [Art] thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I [am].
En agter die man van God aangegaan, en hom onder ’n eikeboom sit gevind: en hy het tot hom gesê, Is jy die man van God wat uit Juda gekom het? En hy het gesê, Ek is.

Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.
Toe het hy tot hom gesê, Kom saam met my huis toe, en eet brood.
16
And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place:
En hy het gesê, Ek mag nie saam met jou terugkeer, of by jou ingaan nie: en ek sal ook nie brood eet of water drink met jou in hierdie plek nie:
17
For it was said to me by the word of the LORD, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.
Want dit is my by die woord van die HERE gesê, Jy moet geen brood eet of water drink daar nie, of terugkeer om te gaan by die pad waardeur jy gekom het nie.

He said unto him, I [am] a prophet also as thou [art]; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. [But] he lied unto him.
En hy het tot hom gesê, Ek is ook ’n profeet soos jy; en ’n engel het met my by die woord van die HERE gespreek, en gesê, Bring hom saam met jou terug na jou huis, dat hy brood mag eet en water drink. Maar hy het vir hom gelieg.

So he went back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.
So het hy dan saam met hom teruggegaan, en brood in sy huis geëet, en water gedrink.
20
And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
En dit was so, terwyl hulle by die tafel sit, dat die woord van die HERE tot die profeet gekom het wat hom teruggebring het:
21
And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee,
En hy het tot die man van God geroep wat uit Juda gekom het, en gesê, So sê die HERE, Omdat jy teen die mond van die HERE in opstand gekom het, en die gebod nie onderhou het nie wat die HERE jou God jou beveel het,

But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which [the LORD] did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.
Maar teruggekeer het, en brood geëet en water gedrink het in die plek waarvan die HERE tot jou gesê het, Eet geen brood nie, en drink geen water nie; sal jou lyk nie in die graf van jou vaders kom nie.

And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, [to wit], for the prophet whom he had brought back.
En dit was so, nadat hy brood geëet en nadat hy gedrink het, dat hy die esel vir hom opgesaal het, vir die profeet wat hy teruggebring het.

And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
En toe hy weggegaan het, het ‚'n leeu hom op die pad ontmoet, en hom doodgemaak: en sy lyk is in die pad gegooi, en die esel het langs dit gestaan, die leeu het ook langs die lyk gestaan.

And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase: and they came and told [it] in the city where the old prophet dwelt.
En kyk, manne het verbygegaan, en die lyk in die pad sien lê, en die leeu by die lyk staan: en hulle het gekom en dit in die stad vertel waar die ou profeet gewoon het.

And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard [thereof], he said, It [is] the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
En toe die profeet wat hom van die pad af teruggebring het, dit gehoor het, het hy gesê, Dit is die man van God, wat teen die mond van die HERE in opstand gekom het: daarom het die HERE hom aan die leeu oorgegee, wat hom verskeur en doodgemaak het, volgens die woord van die HERE, wat Hy tot hom gespreek het.

And he spake to his sons, saying, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled [him].
En hy het tot sy seuns gespreek, en gesê, Saal die esel vir my. En hulle het dit opgesaal.

And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase: the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.
En hy het gegaan, en die lyk in die pad gevind, en die esel en die leeu by die lyk staan: die leeu het die lyk nie geëet, of die esel verskeur nie.

And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back: and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him.
En die profeet het die lyk van die man van God opgeneem, en dit op die esel gesit, en dit teruggebring: en die ou profeet het in die stad gekom, om te treur en om hom te begrawe.

And he laid his carcase in his own grave; and they mourned over him, [saying], Alas, my brother!
En hy het sy lyk in sy eie graf gelê; en hulle het oor hom gerou, en gesê, Ag, my broer!
31
And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God [is] buried; lay my bones beside his bones:
En dit was so, nadat hy hom begrawe het, dat hy tot sy seuns gespreek het, en gesê, Wanneer ek dood is, begrawe my dan in die graf waarin die man van God begrawe is; lê my beendere by sy beendere:

For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which [are] in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.
Want die woord wat hy by die woord van die HERE teen die altaar in Bet-el, en teen al die huise van die hoogtes wat in die stede van Samaría is, geroep het, sal sekerlik gebeur.

After this thing Jeroboam returned not from his evil way, but made again of the lowest of the people priests of the high places: whosoever would, he consecrated him, and he became [one] of the priests of the high places.
Ná hierdie saak het Jeróbeam nie van sy boos weg teruggekeer nie, maar weer van die laagste van die volk priesters van die hoogtes gemaak: wie ook al wou, het hy toegewy, en hy het een van die priesters van die hoogtes geword.

And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut [it] off, and to destroy [it] from off the face of the earth.
En hierdie saak het tot sonde geword vir die huis van Jeróbeam, selfs om dit af te sny, en om dit van die aangesig van die aarde af te vernietig.
